Very inspiring. My father-in-law was recently diagnosed with ALS and when I saw this report on the Today Show, I immediately went on the internet to search for Augie. I've forwarded the links to them so they can see it too. Thank you for doing this for people with ALS. It means a lot. God bless you and your family. - Wife from NY

Thanks. It doesn't matter what the comment before yours was. Just saying that somebody will stop breathing from this disease is enough. It's the thing they most fear. I just felt that saying that here was a bit insensitive. I'm sorry about your friend. I lost my grandfather to ALS. Bless Augie for all of his hard work!!!

Nick, I am sorry to hear about your father. My mother lived with ALS for 10 years before she passed away last week. She was in a very similar physical condition as Augie was for most of her battle. I understand the pain that this disease causes to its victim and their family. My prayers are with you. Make the most of the time you have with your Father. If Augie has taught us anything is that life can go on despite ALS. I realize now what a gift my mothers last years were to our family. One day we will see this illness beat.

    Hi Augie
You are an insporation. I watch Jerrys telathon every year I love to listen to you speak. The technology you use is cool. I know you thank God for it just like thank God for Zoom Text. That's what I use on my computer. Yes I'm visually impaired. Augie I don't know you but I'll pray for you for total healing. I believe it will happen.
Blessings to you and your family!!

From what I understand.. ALS does not normally effect the eyes.. usually you stop breathing entirely before it gets that far into the nervious system...

I was not being cruel.. I was talking about a comment that was submitted before mine about these systems not working for ALS because it supposedly attacks the nervious system. I said no, because i was referring to usually ALS attacks muscles (not the eyes) andwhat I meant was.. by the time it would hit the eyes, the person would already be gone from stopping breathing. The comment I was referring to must have been deleted...

Thanks for posting this informative video! This Dynavox product seems like it would give hope to many ALS patients. However, on a recent episode of the television show ER, the ALS character says that such eye gaze communication devices eventually become ineffective because the disease affects one's eyes. Is this true?

It depends on how far you progress before passing. Being locked-in typically doesn’t affect your blinking or eye movement. It can however progress to completely locked-in syndrome In which it can become problematic.

I did not mean anything cruel about it.. I have a long time friend now in his 5th year of ALS.. not gonna last much longer im affraid... So I was stating what I knew to be true in reference to the post (at that time) before mine
