Did mine few weeks back after watching this & v8 tc popped up for $100 ozzy beans, Already had the ashcroft kit $360 beans delivered, took me about 2 hours ish to remove trans & fit the kit, got a brace mounted to my big jack that i made up that bolts to the trans with transfer case so no need to seperate, works killer with the storm tune, doesnt rev as high when cruising 110 revs sit at 2500rpm, very happy with the kit 👌
I got a V8 converter on my Td5 as well. Definitely needs a remap to the engine though to get the best from it. Though drives quite respectably without one too. But when on stop and in D it will vibrate the whole car without a remap lol. I can say though when off road, the benefits of the V8 converter really shine. You will know it off road too.
I run the 4.0L v8 tc with the ashcroft kit with a tuned td5, so good, remap & tc kit makes it that much better to drive & i average low 10lph, 2" lift 31" kenda kr601, no regrets, get it done u
Glad you got the fit converter to box first... saves totalling the box. I have a pump stator on my desk from one someone else didn't fit properly! So, the real question is wht difference does the Thor 4.6 TC make? As bigger isn't always better. It's the torque multiplication and internal fin angles that make the real differnce. I would have measured the nose of the TC to the starter ring and just replicated that for the new TC, then unbolt and slot in, then fit the box. I've just rebuilt a non electric ZF 4HP22 for a 300tdi conversion.
hi great Video i have a 2003 Discovery TD5 i brought it with a crook auto gearbox what the gearbox does is it will go in to drive but wont change up gears drives in first i think goes in to reverse no worries any ideas what it could be
Hello, I have a Land Rover Discovery 2 Td5 (2003 model) and I want to change the existing original Torque Converter to a Range Rover P38 4.6 V8 Torque Converter. This means that the size of the Torque Converter is larger than the original. If I want to buy the Torque Converter that is sold on the Ashcroft Transmission website, what type of Torque Converter is it? I mean what model number is the Torque Converter?
Looks great, I've just refitted my trans as well. I have to kit here but time constraints i had to fit the std convertor. Are you planning on a remap to make better use of the converter?? I have heard of guys messing with the transmission ECU and changing shift/lock up points as well. Only found you channel a few weeks ago so have plenty to catch up on, cheers from down under 👍👍
Whats the real benefit of doing the v8 torque convertor other than it changing gear at lower revs, i assume it slips less and helps get the power down better aswell? Im desperate to try and improve my auto i hate how lazy it is standard😂
Thanks bud. No I got them done by somebody which has now disappeared. They are easy enough to do if you ok with electrics. They are led strips in with them
The video I have been waiting for since you mentioned you did the V8 TC conversion on insta. Apart from the weight of the box and the fiddly bolts for the flexplate it looked quite easy? How long did it take you do do? I still have to do mine, had the bits in the garage for well over 2 years !! I did read the ashcroft instructions and they were dead confusing, and I'd read about getting the tC installed correctly else it will cause major damage. Great video LL thanks. Troll
Hiya bud I know this is after the job but you could of saved yourself alot of heaving and struggling by using an engine hoist to sling and lift the gearbox up through the gearstick hole and with the transfer box left on its the way they tell you to do it in the Haynes manual and it's the way I changed my box and it's alot easier than the way you just struggled with, I only needed to Jack the chassis up abit to slide the box in cos I don't have as much lift as you but dropping a strap down through the gearbox hole is far safer than laying under a gearbox like you guy's were doing, anyway hope that may help you in the future
@@Jakesoverlandadventures I've found if doing a clutch or gearbox the engine hoist through the middle of the car alot easier if you haven't got a lift cos yeah a lift is the easiest way and lower the box on a transmission stand
@@trollmanrs it's much easier than fighting a gearbox on a jack or getting 2 people to try and lift it into position I changed boxes afew times like this as I've got a f#cked shoulder the longer reaching hoist is the better option just for ease of access over the tunnel hole
Hello! I wonder if this could be ok with a normal 170hp stage 1 mod. Wich Is your advice ?
Thank you from Italy
Great video thanks for showing all of this.
Thank you 🙏

Good insight in to this👍. Personally i would have gone manual route which im planning anyways.

Any chance you could do a short update video on this. How it's been running for you and that.

I would service the gearbox first then see
how comes you changed the torque converter any faults with it?
Yes, it was taking ages to find the lock out gear and eventually was like a slipping clutch

Not sure on model number, but i know there biggest hard wearing one is the same as a Thor v8 one

Hi bud, thanks for the comment. Yeah it’s now been remapped to all the new parts and runs much better. Hope you like the channel 👍
What is the thinking behind using the V8 torque converter? Is it just a lower stall on them?
Better pull off can handle more torque and also less stress on the box
@@Jakesoverlandadventures and it locks up at a slightly lower speed I believe.
What sort of Tc was it from
4.6 v8

Yes all of what you listed above plus it won’t boil your gearbox oil like mine was doing 😆
I've got a V8 Torque Converter on my Td5 and it makes a huge difference to how it drives. Seriously, do it.
Great channel lads. Been a sub for a while. Have you swapped out your lights for led bulbs ?

Yes as per instructions, now 5 months in driving and a lot better

Yeah wasn’t to bad when you break it down but it did take us 2 days. Then again we have never done anything like that before
