Depending on mode, you can only run it as a freezer or cooler "frig", not both. Is that correct ?

That is correct. Their larger models have the dual cooling/freezing capability.

That solar array is connected to our solar generator and that is what is powering the cooler. Iceco has battery packs for these fridges/freezers that we'd love to get our hands on.
