We all miss you so much, Rabbi Sacks! You have been one of the giants of the generation, a truly Gadol Hador! Beyond your immense knowledge, your extraordinary intelligence, you had the rare gift of touching the souls of the people who had the great opportunity to listen to your teachings! We are so grateful to you, and to HaShem that gave such a gift to all of us!
Yes, we're blessed that Rabbi Sacks left so much material for us to learn. He also wrote many wonderful books and has a website you might like to check out.
Thank you for this wonderful conversation between 2 real music lovers. I can now better understand the profound grief of the Jewish nation after the second temple was destroyed.
thank you so much for bringing these two greats together, also love seeing rabbi Jonathan sacks of blessed memory. I still weep everytime I see his videos. 😭💜✡️🕎🙏🇮🇱
I think that the most religious type of music is unaccompanied human vocals and because judaism celebrates the allure of this world but also retains the truths of the earliest pure ways, there had to be the perfect balance - that though so much was allowed as humans learned more, we had to keep one day a week to remember the most halaqic way to sing devotion. Also, a prayer for martyrs is always a good practice.
the main point the Rabbi is making is that yes Jewish music is deficient but consciously and appropriately so - full instrumental music is only partially permitted - this is to convey the enduring sense of loss that exile and being bereft of a Temple and religious commonwealth represent - it defines the longing for full redemption materiel and spiritual that is a part of the Jewish and human pre redemptive psyche - it reminds us that we have much work still to perform and that in this era the celebrating of anything can only be partial
What is wrong with the truth? If we had used musical instruments on Shabbat we might come to carry in areas without an eruv or repair them if they break (and become mukseh).
Great dialogue! I believe we are allowed to disagree with the rabbis. All men are capable of making mistakes. Not even Moshe was perfect. And look at both David and Solomon. All men capable of huge mistakes. Yes, most definitely question the Rabbis.
The reason we are not allowed to play instruments on Shabbat is because of the messoarah. The fence around the Torah. because there is a chance that the instrument will come into disrepair, we do not play them on the Sabbath. For it is for bidden to work on the sabbath.
No that is not at all true. We don't follow what chrustians want. We prepare though and get ready to build the temple when the messiah comes. And no if the entire world doesn't recognise him that won't fulfill one of the requirements of the messiah and we won't recognise him. That means christians saying he isn't messiah he is antichrust would not make us accept him and let him build the temple Tanach tells us: - Messiah has to be recognised by all - also must achoeve workd peace - must bring all Jews back to Israel. - must bring whole world to belief in one G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Then we would recognise the messiah as the messiah and he can get to work on the 3rd temple. We will hear the 8 stringed harps
Sing a new song on to the Lord. By the fruit of your lips I create. Indeed, the Parade in NY could have blown them away if we all broke into song. Remenber-Let it begin with Me. Great song- Sing on Israel! In God We Trust
Wonderful seeing these two giants together. Miss you Rabbi Sacks.

Such a great discussion!! I love to see Rabbi Sacks's conviction and joy as he spoke so passionately!! Miss you greatly, Rabbi Sacks.

RABBI SACKS, YOU ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT WITH HUMOR, KINDNESS, WISDOM. YOUR VERY NAME IS A BLESSING.
2 wonderful men, I'm sadden by the fact I only recently discovered Rabbi Sacks glad to have UA-cam of him

Fascinating discussion. Loved what Rabbi Sacks said about empowering the human voice. A profound thought.
It was a nice respectful discussion.
👌

The points you're making Dennis Prager actually reinforce why instruments should not be used on Shabbat. We'd focus on the music instead of on Hashem.
The Rabbi is absolutely 💯 correct.
On top of everything. The Appearance of the Holy SHECHINA On the Sabbath is the ultimate .
Sincerely,
Priceless!
Indeed!

He did not make any such claim, he asked! Huge difference.
where can we find the whole discussion?
Rabbi Sacks had conveyed the same thought as Dennis preger many times
You are truly missed Rabbi Sacks!
What is wrong with the truth? If we had used musical instruments on Shabbat we might come to carry in areas without an eruv or repair them if they break (and become mukseh).
In several psalms it says to break out the instruments on Shabbat.
BEFORE even the First Temple was destroyed.
Rabbi JohanN I always love you
Is there anything in halachah that says you can't question rabbis? In the Torah? Seems to be barring music is taking away from, or altering, Torah.
When was this filmed?
I'm surprised the good Rabbi didn't mention "The Sound of Music", unless I missed it.
Amazing

Wow profound Rabbi Sacks as always, what an inspirational explanation of the very deep and important question.
"He started writing tonally? That would be his teshuva" lol
I normally hate Praeger, but he did make a very smart and funny Schoenberg joke.
Is not the issue doing what God instructed us to do and not what the priest asks us to do regardless of the percieved results?
Is it true they have started rebuilding the temple in Israel?
G-d willing. Where did you hear this?

✡SHEMA YISRAEL:
Abba Shuli hu'Melecj ha'olam....
The songs from King David and also dance without closings. We can do….. sing and dance with instruments.
Not on shabbat we won't
