Insane level of creativity and humor here.
The whole time she was banging on the bell, I was reacting like, why the heck would someone be ringing a bell in the middle of a life or death fight?
The minute she got the top off and picked it up and realized what was about to happen, I was just in awe. The fact they could write a prop like this into a fight scene and make it so much fun.
Stephen Chow or whoever came up with this scene is a creative genius. You can watch the movie 10 times and never be bored.

Yeah. I had similar thoughts when I saw the movie first time....but when you saw the bell turn into in a kind of high speaker...you think...the beast is probably dead...He survived the normal lion roar...but with the bell...the strength is multiplied various levels.

Most teqnique from this movie is referenced from those as well.

This piece never gets old I'm so sure many people watch it more than twice. The truly amazing things about it is the realistic factor and I dont mean the cg. The proper timing, the proper distance calculated from each attack force is carefully thought out. Except the part where the villain stood a bit too further away from previous exchange right before the second lion roar, almost everything else is properly done. Its hard to believe this was filmed many decades ago. Master piece.

The way stephen chow introduced the villain is really genius in writing. Before this scene happened, he was just some old man locked in a cell. Minding his own business. He's also locked in a secluded cell and very heavily guarded making us the viewers wondering what this old man did to get locked like that in the first place. And then, later, we know what his capable of. We saw him catch a bullet in point blank range ease. Here, we see his true power. He's stronger than both hero and heroine combine. Faster and more durable. The only thing that caught him off guard is the lion roar move. We saw him basically bodied these two with ease.

It's a villain trope that's been sadly lost in the sea of "cool mastermind" and "badass evil guy" characters. Just the normal looking, unassuming, laid back, generally polite guy who's an absolute monster hidden behind the exterior is one of my favourite types of villains. It mirrors a more real world aesthetic of evil. The most evil and dangerous people in our history were people you could pass on the street and never look twice. Villains like The Beast, Gaunter O Dimm, Blackbeard etc always hit for me. The Devil after all hides in plain sight.
