If I go by myself I'm there on Tuesdays 95% of the time. If I'm with my family, it's usually Saturdays or Sundays about 50/50. It's a toss-up on what I am actually doing on any given week, but I usually post my schedule in the community posts. Once we get back from our WDW vacation, I'll post a list of dates we're going in June and July.
I'm getting second-hand excitement for your WDW trip! Love your videos! Summer is easily my favorite time to go to Disneyland because three crowd levels are fairly manageable!
@@SoCalDisneyDadhi how is your day/night depending on where you are located? I just wanted to ask if Disneyland or California adventures sales Fanny packs lol? I managed to get a reservation for the fantasmic dining package yesterday at the Blue Bayou. Originally I wasn’t planning to make a reservation there but since it was the only option for the dining package, I figured why not give it a try. We are so excited to be going in early June even though my son’s favorite ride will still be under construction (Haunted Mansion)
That makes me feel a lot better about the hefty price tag. We’re splurging on this cause our family has never seen Fantasmic but have heard it’s absolutely amazing.
We are coming from the uk the last week in august after a week in San Diego. We are super excited. Love watching your videos to help with our planning. Not been to Disney California for 15 years so really looking forward to introducing the kids to the original.
Aloha, Love your blogs, I live vicariously through your tours of the parks. They are my happy place. I love coming during the summer, except for July 4th week. The problem is that after our last trip in November when we had so many problems with rides going down or being closed, I monitored the wait times for the rides on my DL app. I am assuming that Haunted mansion will be up and refurbished for Halloween activities. But everyday, when I look at the wait times I would say that 90% of the time (I look 2 or 3 times because I want to come again soon) the more popular rides are down or have a ridiculous time wait because something else is down. Until this gets better, My next trip will be postponed. And I'll take my $ elsware.
Nothing is worse than sweating like a pig in 90 degree heat waiting in a two hour line. I went in march 2024 on a weekday and it was still crowded, plus rides like the HM and space mountain were down
Interesting info about the weather there in summer. Seems to be happening all over the world, with summer heat peaking in the last month into the first month of the following season. Almost like its delayed by a month. Our summer begins in December and ends at the end of February, but the peak heat here has been in March even into April. We will just ensure we bring clothes to suit cool and hot days
Thank you Traver for your tip in a recent video that you can sign up to be notified of dining openings. I signed up for all the fantasmic dining package notifications this week and it helped me get a reservation for blue bayou at the end of the month. I'm terrible about getting things that have a lot of competition, this might be the first time I was ever successful and it's thanks to your recent helpful video! Looking forward to our yearly trip, we time it for late May since our school year ends early, same as you suggest doing in this video
We are coming from Australia to visit Disney 13th and 14th August. Looking at the weather, the average summer temp is 79F (26 degrees for us) which doesnt seem too hot as our summers hover around 95F (35 degrees). Hopefully we should be ok with 2 younger kids. I'm hoping it isnt too busy but have Genie+ to help. Watch your videos everytime they drop, been a big help in planning.
Mid-August is a good time to visit. I’d expect 80s, rather than 70s. We have 70s right now and it’ll be hotter in August. But the 90s and 100s don’t hit until September/October so you should be good there.
I can't wait for July. I know others seem to love June Gloom, but I moved to San Diego for sunshine. July to October is my absolute favorite at Disneyland because I can wear shorts and flip flops without taking a jacket or jeans. Bring it on!
We were bummed to find out one of the days we already booked was recently announced as Pride Nite in June, so we don't get our full day. That event is June 18/20.
They normally only close one park early, so you can switch your reservation to the other park. I'm sorry this happens. Especially when so much time, planning, and money goes into it.
Summer is my favorite season to visit. But it's been a while since I actually have been in the summer. With no holiday overlays. I go in September but Halloween has begun. That's why I'm aiming for May or mid June. Perfect weather for me. Nice and warm. No rain. I get enough in Oregon.
I'm sure any season is better weather for you. If I lived in a colder place, I'd specifically go to Disney during the winter months to get out of the cold. We went to WDW in January when I lived in Pennsylvania as a kid and it was always so nice to get 70s when everyone back home was freezing.
WDW is huge and takes soooooo much more planning than Disneyland. Feel free to ask any questions as they come up. Our videos will be mostly vlogs, but I'm sure we'll share our thought process behind what we're doing and when which will hopefully help out. We also tend to do pretty much the same thing every trip, though, as we know what we like and we remember what worked well. We have the old "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.
Haha, I booked my entire trip for the first 5 days of September thinking it would be a bit cooler. 🤦♀️ Still excited and hoping to snag Oogie Boogie tickets!
I took my son one time in early September since his preschool didn’t start until the second week. It was in the mid-90s F. That was back when they had the House of the Future and we spent a lot of time there that day because of the air conditioning. The Tiki Room is also air conditioned. It’s a Small World also good on a hot day. Space Mountain would be nice too, since they have the fans blowing at you. Hope it isn’t too bad when you go, but if it is you can make it work. Hydrate and don’t forget the sunscreen!
I booked a little trip for a few days before Fantasmic reopens specifically because I remember how clogged the walkway becomes before a Fantasmic show and thats without the construction walls. I cannot imagine how bad the congestion will be for the first showing. *shudders*
Great video! Question for ya. We have tickets and park reservations for a visit in September already. If I manage to get Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, that would change some things for us. Am I able to change my park reservations?
Around Mid-August, just depends on the school district for the exact date. I'd say your best bet is August 19-22 if you want to avoid the Halloween crowds that will undoubtedly arrive on the 23rd, but also miss the "last trip before school starts" crowd for the locals.
Great video guys! Thanks and keep up the good work! Do you think they will keep Haunted Mansion closed right up to the Christmas holiday time? Coming in late Aug. And hate to miss the OG version.
It actually switches to the Holiday version starting with Halloween, so if it DOES reopen this year in August, it would be as Haunted Mansion Holiday. And I don't see it opening any earlier, so that pretty much guarantees that we won't see the regular Haunted Mansion again until January 2025. I capitalized the "does" bit because right now, they haven't even started building the Momento Mori shop and end of August is just 3 months away. Perhaps they could move quickly, but there's a chance that it won't even be ready at the very start of the season. We'll have to keep an eye on progress as the months continue.
I’m honestly kind of gutted they’re starting OBB early this year. I’m taking my family that last week in august when it’s historically slower - OBB + the new discounted tickets has me worried we’re going to see a similar influx in crowds as those discounted spring tickets earlier this year. 😢
I was initially worried about the new ticket deal, but it’s not as good as Spring. It’s a minimum of a 3-day ticket and the actual discount is only like $10-$15 below the rack rate. At least for the adult prices. Still a discount? Yes. But not as deep of a discount as it appears to be. OBB starting early is unfortunate for those who planned their trips months ago before Disney released any dates. Especially given that they weren’t counting on DCA closing early, and now it will.
@@SoCalDisneyDad that’s great perspective on the ticket prices. I hope it’ll help. We have a sweet spot in Oregon that our kids don’t start school until September, so that last week is usually awesome. I started planning this in January, so yeah - OBB has me sad. We’ll plan to start at DCA those days and finish at Disney. In your experience, is Disneyland a madhouse on OBB nights? Appreciate your feedback!
@@amandawilson6540 DL will be slightly busier all day, but after DCA closes, everyone with a hopper will flood into DL. I imagine that 6 PM to 9 PM is rather crowded. I don’t usually find myself in the park after 6 PM, so I don’t have a whole lot of first hand experience with the rush.
Yay! We are coming in the 3rd week of June for the first time. We’ve done WDW several times, but we’re pretty miserable. I was hoping CA would be more mild. Do you think we need pants and jackets? Also, we will be there 5 days - 3 park, 1 resort, 1 beach. What do you recommend for the beach day? Thank u for your content!
I usually wear a light jacket in the morning until the cloud cover burns off. But I wear shorts. Pants aren’t needed at this time of year. Florida is definitely miserable! We were just there last week. It’s about 20-30 degrees cooler here and without humidity. So it’s bearable.
@@kimcollins5002 We aren’t local to Anaheim, so I couldn’t offer any recommendations, unfortunately. If we make the trek up that way, it’s to go to Disney, so we don’t usually visit any beaches up there.
Gah I guess I screwed up. We are going first week of June .. Canadian school isn’t finished until the end of June so I thought we were going while everyone else was still in school. Darn.
Pretty busy. Schools are out, but passholders are still able to go. And since they’re getting blocked out less than a week later, they’ll be getting their fill for sure. We went around this time last year and it seemed about the most crowded the park had been since Spring Break (but still not near Spring Break levels).
Thanks for all your videos and tips Traver and Amy. We are heading to Disneyland the last week of August 28,29. (Wednesday & Thursday) Do I need to get Genie+? How are the crowds during that time?
The Thursday is an Oogie Boogie Bash date, so DCA will close at 6 PM. Be aware of that. I always recommend Genie+. It just makes the trip more enjoyable. But it can be done without if needed. Crowds are generally decent, but with Halloween starting on August 23rd for the first time, it’s hard to say. So this year will be a little different than usual.
Hello, I have a question about Oogie Boogie Bash, I'll be going to Disney on august 28 and 29, but I'll not participate in the Oogie event.. My plan is to visit DCA on Aug 28 and Disney on Aug 29, do you think that Disney will be more crowded on the day that Oogie event takes place or will it be the other way around? Love this video!! 🥰
Disneyland will definitely be more crowded on August 29th, but without a park hopper, you have little choice but to arrange your trip this way, unfortunately. As is anybody else without a hopper, which is what will make Disneyland the busier park. And then anyone with a hopper will be coming over to Disneyland at 6 PM, so then it will be insane over there until after fireworks when crowds start to dissipate.
Hi Thank you for the video. I plan to visit at the last week of August. With logic boogie bash - does that mean shorter hours? Will I be asked to leave at a certain hour before Ophir boogie stars? Thank you
Is it possible to do both parks in one day with park hopper and genie plus? We are going June 12th on a Wednesday. We have 2 teenagers and this is our first visit 😬Should we do rise of the resistance first thing in the morning for rope drop bc I was thinking of doing that first.
Rise is better at 9 AM or 7 PM over rope drop. You’ll waste the first hour on Rise if you rope drop it and that’s the best time for riding other rides. You could do 4 rides in the time it takes you to ride Rise at rope drop. It’s possible to do a single day, but you’ll be rushing around the whole time and you will have to make a priority list, because you won’t get close to doing everything. You’re actually better off buying a Individual Lightning Lane for both Rise and Radiator Springs in order to get the most out of the day.
@@heidibourg6621 This may sound counter intuitive, but I would hit up some of the LL rides. If you watch our Genie+ videos, we will tell you not to use your LLs right away, but since you’re trying to get two parks in one day, it may be a valid strategy for you. I would probably grab a LL for Space Mountain right away, and go rope drop Indiana Jones. In our videos, we do the opposite, but I’m thinking about your situation specifically. You wouldn’t end up using a LL on Indiana Jones at all with this method (unless you want to ride again). The reason for this is that the LL meet up with the standby line is very early in the line, so you aren’t skipping much. So it’s not a huge loss to not use a LL. And first thing in the AM, you likely wouldn’t pass anyone anyway. So standby is fine. As soon as you get out, go ride Space, you’ll pass a ton of people with LL. And then set your sights on Big Thunder. If you don’t want to do all the walking that requires, then do Big Thunder before Space. You should get all three of those done before 9 AM. And then you can go to Rise, provided you aren’t paying for it in the end as I suggested earlier (which will save the most amount of time).
Going my first time (since i was 6) to Disneyland and CA Adventure August 15-August 18 for my birthday, any guesses on how busy it will be then? Hoping it's not too bad then since it will be before halloween and i think the kids will be back in school then?
You're going over a weekend, so school being in session won't matter too much for that last couple of days, but there's a school near us that goes back on August 15th. Our kids go back August 19th I think. But there will definitely be school districts back in session by then, so it'll be less busy than the previous week. Mid-August was always our favorite time to visit before we became locals. So it's a good solid week!
@@SoCalDisneyDad that is true thank you for your input! We will def be buying lighting lane for all days we are there and hoping for the best! I'm an expert w/ that thanks to DW. We are staying at grand californian due to a great discounted rate so hopefully we are set up for success no matter what happens. I'm glad this week was one of your faves! Can't wait!
Generally speaking, yes. People go crazy for Halloween at Disneyland. And October is busier than September. October is actually one of the Top 3 busiest months of the year.
@@SoCalDisneyDad does that mean that on the Oogie Boogie night of Sept 10th DCA will be closing earlier. Does all this info happen to be on the Disneyland Website.?
@@sophiadoll4793 That is correct. DCA will close at 6 PM. It’s not on Disneyland’s website yet. But they do have it on the Disney Parks blog. disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2024/05/disney-experiences-celebrates-a-wickedly-wonderful-halfway-to-halloween/
No, Halloween is really popular at Disneyland. I’d rank it at maybe 7 or 8 out of 12. With 12 being the busiest month. So it’s fairly in the middle, but still on the busier end of the scale.
@@jordanwarren1779 Top 3 months of the year are March, April, and October. Spring Break and Fall Break. This isn’t set in stone, but this is how I’d rank them from busiest to least busiest March April October June September July December (except Christmas week) August November (except Thanksgiving week) May January February
@@jordanwarren1779 Also remember that for about 6 months out of the year (the lowest 6 on my list), the crowd level differences are almost negligible. There is no off season anymore.
@@SoCalDisneyDadthank you! I appreciate all the info. I was going to go in September but now I’m re-thinking for June especially hearing that crowd difference is almost negligible and no off season….
Disney’s refurbs are taking wayyyy too long. Having the haunted mansion closed that long is totally unacceptable especially since splash mountain is closed. I don’t understand why they don’t make it a priority to do it way faster.
You've hit that right on the head. It made no sense to me either. I get Disney wanting to fix it and make it ADA compliant, but it's been operating just fine with their current system for years. What's an extra 6-10 months to finish up Tiana's first? I can only imagine that they have plans upon plans upon plans and this was the best time to do it. Disneyland Forward just got approved in full, and that means LOADS of construction. Most of it should be out of sight and not impact in-park guests for quite awhile, but it probably affects the construction crews. I know the reason our Tiana's is behind WDW's by 4 months is because the crews that are building them are the same crew and they're literally just doing their bit in Orlando and then moving out here and doing it again. So they don't necessarily hire separate crews.

@@SoCalDisneyDad thanks so much for your response!
@@SoCalDisneyDad thank you so much!!
Hi
Thank you for the video.
I plan to visit at the last week of August.
With logic boogie bash - does that mean shorter hours? Will I be asked to leave at a certain hour before Ophir boogie stars?
Thank you
DCA closes at 6 PM on August 25th, 27th, and 29th.
@@SoCalDisneyDad thank you!
Thank you!
What do you recommend to do for rope drop first with teenagers?
Appreciate this! This helps out so much!
Can't wait!
So are you saying September will be busier then that summer time????
Generally speaking, yes. People go crazy for Halloween at Disneyland. And October is busier than September. October is actually one of the Top 3 busiest months of the year.
@@SoCalDisneyDad does that mean that on the Oogie Boogie night of Sept 10th DCA will be closing earlier. Does all this info happen to be on the Disneyland Website.?
@@sophiadoll4793 That is correct. DCA will close at 6 PM. It’s not on Disneyland’s website yet. But they do have it on the Disney Parks blog.

@@SoCalDisneyDad that is very unfortunate, i was hoping to see Avengers land at night. Thank you for the blog link. You have been my info hub.
Is September one of the slowest months of year?
No, Halloween is really popular at Disneyland. I’d rank it at maybe 7 or 8 out of 12. With 12 being the busiest month. So it’s fairly in the middle, but still on the busier end of the scale.
@@SoCalDisneyDadwhat would you say the top 3 “slowest” months are? Where would the month of June rank?
@@jordanwarren1779 Top 3 months of the year are March, April, and October.
Spring Break and Fall Break.
This isn’t set in stone, but this is how I’d rank them from busiest to least busiest
March
April
October
June
September
July
December (except Christmas week)
August
November (except Thanksgiving week)
May
January
February
