A silent enemy is inflicting losses worth billions on the Indian economy. In 2022, India saw 8% of its GDP eroded by this invisible adversary: climate change. India's Supreme Court, in a significant ruling, has expanded the scope of Articles 14 and 21 to encompass the 'right against the adverse effects of climate change,' marking climate change as a distinct fundamental and human right.
Linking the fight against climate change to Articles 21 and 14, the apex court asserted that the rights to life and equality are inextricably linked to a clean, stable environment.
