This movie came out at the wrong time: where stupid remakes overfilled the box offices. This movie was not a remake. People didn't know. This was a pure original.
Blame Marvel and DC, they control the theaters. We rarely get art pieces like this once a while.

i was so sad when no one liked it. i remember walking out of the movie theatre with awe at this movie, but all of my friends were disappointed. they all thought it was too confusing, not enough action. i still love this movie, and am so glad people are finally accepting that it is incredible.
well no offense, but your friends didn't put too much thought when they went out of the theatre huh.
It was the same for me. I went to watch it with my ex boyfriend and he couldn't wait for the movie to be over, almost fell asleep. @@dragon_bro_0 that's true, i don't think they had watched the original and were going for more of a "gun car boobie explosion" type movie

The fact that this was a box office flop and yet Jumanji was a success, means people are getting dumber. No other explanation.
I was thinking the same.
Same, Jumanji was enjoyable but way overrated.
Quite frankly, I didn't like either of them. I have never been impressed with Villeneuve as a director, and AFAIC, all this talk about him being the next Sir Ridley is crap. There's only one of those, and maybe if he directed this instead of "Alien Covenant" or "All the Money in the World," 2017 wouldn't have been so shitty for him.

Did you watch the live FAcebook Q&A today? Harrison Ford could barely form a coherent sentence. Not sure his opinion carries a lot of weight these days.
He doesn't read the scripts... he just looks at the paycheck!
He said the script was what made him come back to Star Wars, during the SDCC Panel he said it was one of the best he'd ever read and in multiple interviews in the press tour. Boom.
The only reason this movie was a box office disappointment is because audiences now dont understand deeper meanings or have an attention span more than 10 mins. This movie is a masterpiece.
it was made for the powers that be...not the profane masses
Same happened with BvS
ShowMe it was because it was heavily marketed to only those who knew what bladerunner was. The whole marketing campaign assumed blade runner would be a IP that would grab people’s attention. That didn’t happen and that’s why it flopped. Films like the Dark Night and it’s sequel making a billion shows people want deeper films you just have to get them interested properly. Also it only “flopped” because of it’s over loaded $170 million budget had it only cost $120-90 million it would have been a financial success

Cyberpunk 2077 made its own way and it's for the best, yet from time to time giving amazing BR2049 visual references. When i finished CP, i remembered about last BR2049 final scene, when K laid on the stairs, slowly dying - this scene perfectly reflects my feelings. Both of them are different in the mood and storytelling and the ways of showing it, yet still existential - probably that's what made them so meaningful. And both of them are things of beauty. May be it's beauty of cyberpunk genre itself, i don't know - yet remembring Deus Ex MD melancholy atmosphere with magical Michael McCann soundtrack which i can listen for ages in any case.

Holy... There are no words that I can use to even begin to describe how amazing of an experience this was. For the longest time I've always loved the cyberpunk genre. I finally stuck my thumb out and decided to watch the original Blade Runner a day ago, I instantly fell in love with the film. I found out that there was a sequel, and keeping with the mentality of sequels being severe downgrades on their previous, I thought it would be underwhelming. Boy was I wrong. Immediately, the atmosphere struck out so wildly to me. The first scene, establishing the amazing yet familiar world of Blade Runner. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece and an absolute marvel. I wish I had heard of this sooner.
The first sequence is one of the most shocking scenes about the future that I've ever seen. We all expect the cities of a dystopian future to be horrible places. But the countryside of the future being turned into a toxic protein laboratory was not what I was expecting. I remember when I first saw this in theaters being so disoriented by that initial shot from the top of the tower. I couldn't tell what I was looking at. The beautiful flicker of the music right at the moment the camera passes over that tower serves as an ironic foreshadow to 2 hours of magical brutality.

When I first saw it at release I thought it was a great movie, a worthy sequel. Since then I watched it many times and it just kept digging deeper into me every time. Almost every character and every scene has enormous depth to it even if it is sometimes told in the subtlest ways. I am now basically obsessed with it. Vangelis is a musical genius. His score to the first film is one of the main reasons why that movie is so special. His absence in the sequel will be missed. Sorely..
Jack Thompson yeah literally chilling.. however it had little to do with the silly "loud shit for generic action movie, mov. n. 9"
Jack Thompson i agree
Those who made the decision at WB to drop Vangelis for this movie should be fired. Idiots.
dude i agree but at the same time they got a very talented composer with Johan Johansson. He's very very good.
I don't care how 'talented' you claim he is. A Blade Runner film without Vangelis is not a Blade Runner film. The only reason he is doing the music is because he and the director worked together before. Not because he is right for the movie.

Jesse Silva yes that's part of what made the original so great imo
Agreed, to me the trailer looks and sounds like a generic action movie, not raising very high expectations. I deeply hope the movie will be much better than the trailer suggests - because I liked BR so much).
This is the most expensive R-rated film ever made. They could've made the safer business decision and made it PG-13, but they did right by us fans. PLEASE, don't let it fail at the box office! Villeneuve, Ryan, Harrison, and everyone else that worked on the production clearly deserve this to be a success.
Johnny Sobczak Well, the 1st one bombed too. It only took the Director's Cut for it to become a cult classic...but then again, it will probably triple its box office for the entire month of October before fading away once Thor and Justice League come out.
Johnny Sobczak more expensive than the matrix sequels? Highly doubt that.
Both matrix sequels had ~150M USD budgets. Blade runner 2049 reportedly has a budget of 200M USD.
Reloaded cost $150M and Revolutions cost even less. 2049 is over $200M, mainly due to them paying to actually create all of these insane practical sets and props, rather than just using CGI for everything.
Johnny Sobczak It's quite likely, Harrison Ford will likely have been paid $10-20 million to reprise the role of Deckard, Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto will also probably have negotiated a similar (if not quite as high) level of pay, so already that's $30 million we're talking before we consider aspects such as Ridley Scott or the film's visual FX.

Cast: Ryan Gosling (Half-Nelson, Lars and the Real Girl, Blue Valentine, Drive, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Big Short, The Nice Guys, La La Land), Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Apocalypse Now, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, The Fugitive), Jared Leto (Fight Club, American Psycho, Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody, Dallas Buyers Club, Suicide Squad), and Robin Wright (The Princess Bride, Forrest Gump, Nine Lives, Beowulf, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, House of Cards, Wonder Woman)
Cinematographer: Roger Deakins (Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, Prisoners, Sicario)
Composer: Jóhann Jóhannsson (Prisoners, I Am Here, The Theory of Everything, Arrival) and Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Inception, 12 Years a Slave, Interstellar, Batman vs. Superman, Dunkirk)
The cast and crew are EXTREMELY impressive, and continue to fuel my hope for this sequel. I'm hoping Blade Runner 2049 pulls a Mad Max Fury Road: an action film that takes everyone by surprise, due to its masterful composition -- cinematography, score, editing, (practical) stunts, acting, etc.
Baie Rogers action? i'd appreciate crime thriller over action, and you forgot "great plot and underlying philosophical messages/jabs"
You're right!
I guess I meant technically, I hope it pulls a Mad Max; beautiful cinematography, well-composed editing, memorable score, fantastic set pieces, and solid performances. Mad Max heavily relied on action, while Blade Runner also had the "noir"/crime thriller aspect AND the philosophical moments, that touched upon issues relating to identity and righteousness -- what makes someone good or evil? what is the difference between us and "them"? ; I hope these element remains in Blade Runner 2049.
Baie Rogers you’re smart !
No VANGELIS?
I don't think Vangelis will be part of this sequel. That said, it's probably fair that I give him credit for creating the original Blade Runner score, seeing how bits of it may be featured in the latest compositions. Kind of like Michael Giacchino when he wrote Rouge One -- he featured John Williams' name on the score

This Movie 2hr 44min: No thanks ill pass
Endgame 3hr 2min: Yes
What's the deal with audiences nowadays?
Let people enjoy what they want
WTF you cant compare this to endgame.. Endgame was the grand finale of many projects from main plot movies, each characters movies, comics, games, merchandises. Marvel franchises exist constantly more than this, so ofc way more people attached to marvel than this smaller franchise..
@@gueomduduto except blade runner is widely known as a huge classic in cinema
@@micahjacob631 yeah widely known to specific classic movie fans, for worldwide market and variety age market.. no. Marvel basically cover most of the market.
All im saying you cant compare continual billions dollar project with this.. Marvel put lots more effort behind the endgame..
@@gueomduduto marvel put a lot more money behind endgame.
the two compare because they're both big budget franchises known by all, just because you don't consider blade runner a big franchise doesn't mean it isnt
Extremely rare you see a sequel of a beloved classic even talked about as being on par with the original, let alone potentially even better.
Agreed!
This might be one of my favorite movies of all time.
Sad to hear people not liking it, but I’m glad i was able to find it special
InTheEnd75 it’s made for a very specific demographic-that’s why people didn’t like it-they thought it was an action movie
Well, it was. Just not an all-action movie, like some audiences got terribly used to.
I recently saw a YT video about Spirited Away, and this interview with Hayao Miyazaki, when he speaks of this concept in Japanese culture, the ^hah^ - a pause between actions, a moment of contemplation to digest what happened and prepare to what comes next, like the train scene in that same movie.
I'll be damned if Villeneuve isn't a master of the ^hah^.
Karine Fonte primarily, this isn’t really an action film though. A lot of people were bored by this film because of its runtime and the expectations they had for the film
InTheEnd75 I like if
Most of the people praised it. Stop lying for attention.
This film is unbelievable. Everything about its feel, from visuals to music is incredible. Blade Runner 2049 pays homage to the original while telling a phenomenal story and developing this fascinating world.
Nice
Yessir. I totally agree
Ethan Knifsend no
This movie was an absolute masterpiece one of the greatest sequels ever made, one of the greatest films of this decade
I wholeheartedly agree. I need to see it at least 3 more times in cinemas. God, I can't stop thinking about it.
It was just too good.
It’s on 8,6 on imdb and 51th best movie. Insane. My new fav movie.
zoley88 it’s the best follow up I’ve seen since The Dark Knight
Gotta disagree. I found it was majorly lacking in atmosphere and dragged on for far too long. I wasn't a fan of the story either. The original puts it to shame even with the many restrictions they faced way back in 1982.
This is not only one of the best films of 2017, or of the 2010s, or of its time; it's one of the most masterful films OF ALL TIME, hands down.
only 32 more years guys...
Primax ♦ Gaming i can't tell if you're arguing or agreeing.
Primax ♦ Gaming rude dude
Yzf Primax is being sarcastic.
Casting Rich Evans was a really good choice
His audition footage alone is fantastic
I Dunno. Way too charismatic.
I think Rich is overacting in this one. Too much emotion in each scene, just a bit too much for my taste. Def. Oscar baiting
He's stylistically designed to be that way.
Rich Evans is the key to all this
Blade Runner, Dredd, Altered Carbon - Cyberpunk is the perfect genre we need more of!
One big game is coming next year : )
Oooh I loved altered carbon. It’s an amazing show

That awkward moment when Jared Leto is more menacing at 0:24 than the entire Suicide Squad film.
That's called directing skills

yeah .. very true. hard to think about that movie. so disappointing !
Casey Tatum He purred like a fucking cat. He was horrible
+Pablo Cid It's called WB fucked the movie and editing because whiny little bitches complained that "BVS was TOO DARK"
If there's Ryan Gosling in a film, there better be neon lights lighting him
Drive is one of my favorite movies but at this point I think it's clear Villeneuve is superior to Refn. He's showed he knows how to balance surface plot and abstract elements as in Enemy whereas Refn has gotten increasingly up his own ass with stuff like Only God Forgives. That being said I'd still be interested in seeing a Refn sci-fi movie. Did Ghost in the Shell do well enough for Hollywood to dig up Akira?
Refn is a style over substance guy with a special interest in gory fights
Dennis villenueve is one of the most promising directors from last decade. Hope he deliver the same with Dune
Looking forward to part two!
@Ser Al Han was about to say that once I saw the comment
I'm from the future. Dune delivered.
Managed to cut the book and still make it satisfying
@Ser Al Han denis will never disappoint. 🙏
I just finished watching an incredible movie that left me in awe. The cinematography was exceptional and the overall cinematic experience was simply brilliant. However, my personal favorite is a movie from the 80s featuring Harrison Ford, which stands out for its stunning music and breathtaking cinematography. The way the music and visuals were blended was truly magical, creating an unforgettable experience that has stayed with me all these years.
I was young when the first Blade Runner came out..... loved it....best scifi of th e1980s,,,, I thought this on was equal after the 3rd time I watched it
Denis Villeneuve, Ryan Gosling, and Blade Runner?!
It truly can't get better than this!
Actually it can. The original
plus Roger Deakins and Jóhann Jóhannssonn
fncsp if they had Vangelis it could.
those Jóhann Jóhannsson synth truly emulate the vangelis vibe but i would like somethign new but no actual if you feel me? it has to be vangelis to let it happened also back in the 70,80 synthethizer where the shit!!! like the giorgio moroder oST of midnight express such a classic!! so IDK doe!
You forgot Harrison ford
Denis Villeneuve directing? Ridley Scott producing? Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and Robin Wright as the cast? Roger Deakins as cinematographer? Johann Johannsson as composer? Hampton Fancher back as Screenwriter?
This is going to be special.
Dream team tbh
Water Hazard cannot wait! I've always wanted this movie to be remade. With this cast omg what a remake it's going to be 😍😍
Drai fly it is not a remake you dumbass
Derick Moncado the colour grading looks like shit in the trailer, nearly as a marvel movie, not as blade runner
Water Hazard I'm super hyped and super afraid
Hey DC, this is how use Jared Leto correctly.
sorry hav eyou seen the film? how the fuck do you know? it could be shit and it looks like it will be
*Warner Brothers. DC didn't make Suicide Squad.
yeah I can't stand that fuck. He needs to play a scumbag or it doesn't work.
In defense of Jared Leto, an actor can only do so much with a bad script. At the end of the day he is required to take the acting direction of the director.
Ewan McGregor did a great job with the prequels.
This movie is something that deepens and becomes more profound on rewatching. Not many films achieve this for me. It’s sci fi perfection
I'm laughing my ass off at the people bitching that this movie was long and boring. If you're going in to watch a sequel to a movie do yourself a favor; research what you're going to watch ex. Run time and type of film. 2 watch the original. That should give you a giant perspective.
Don't go in watching la la land and expecting an action movie.
I watched the original, one week before watching the new movie, in the theaters. I liked the first one alot. But damn, the second one was so boring, I actually felt a sleep for like 5 min, before the (way to loud) sound of the movie woke me. Its a nice looking movie, but they should have shortened it about 40-50 min.
I actually am a big fan of cyberounk, scifi and dystopia but this was to me just a no no. I felt like sleeping.
LifeIsShort SoHaveFun frrrrr yo the movie was so fucking long and boring I fell asleep until the end where they actually start fighting
idk how you can say this is boring, the movie felt like it only ran for an hour to me, it went by so fast, i was on the edge of my seat the whole time, whereas i usually fall asleep in marvel films. I actually fell asleep about 30 mins into the new star wars film....
Falling asleep during a movie period is sad. Perhaps go to a doctor.
Finally a trailer that doesn't give out the whole plot, I want to see this
Did you just "Yea Boiii" yourself?
Mikes Bigworkshop yeah i think he did😂
but they still had to spoil the trailer in front of the trailer because they JUST. CAN'T. HELP THEMSELVES
That trailer told the whole story: K is Deckard and Rachel's son. So after all the mystery Deckard is a human after all, Rachel was modified to be able to give birth ("Rachel is an experiment, nothing more") Harrison Ford yet again plays the abandoning father that his son has to search for the "truth". He is the key to the future this thing that can "bring down the wall that will start a war". Leto's character can only "make so many". So getting his hands on a replicant that can reproduce would change everything.
I wouldn't be surprised if Deckard is killed off halfway into the movie.
Seeing Harrison Ford so old is heartbreaking,Our Dearest Indiana Jones and Han Solo😢
Harrison Ford: I'm a millionaire who smokes weed everyday and flies planes whenever I want to.
My boi Harrison doesn't give a f********ck lol
@N7 V dude, he's a massive stoner. I love his no f**ks given attitude when it comes to press junkets. He's earned it.
The part where the other replicants revealed to K that he wasn’t a human was honestly devastating :(
Keep spoiling it I reckon
@@otiscooper4089 if you’re being serious…
1. This movie is literally five years old, that’s definitely a time-gap long enough to talk about major plot points lol
2. If you want to avoid spoilers, then you shouldn’t be going into comment sections in the first place. Common sense xD
But wouldn´t you agree that he and the other replicants were indeed humans? Throughout the movie it is suggested that the distinction between replicants and normal humans is a mere "formality".
@@AndresNostos absolutely agree. The first movie also does the same kind of thing where they display that replicants are just as human as humans, and that’s one of the many reasons why the two movies are so good
the shot at the end where he finally gets his hands on the records but the pages where he would be are all ripped out. the acting the directing everything is just so devastating and good.
1:41 When I'm 74 years old, I hope I can still run like Harrison Ford

Looks like Rich Evans lost some weight for this role, impressive.
Very impressive the fat fuck.
I wonder if that will do anything to alleviate his crippling diabetes.
I always told you, he is special
And he even learned to blink less.

Rxol Because your mind is still poorly developed to understand this masterpiece
The world was not yet ready for this film when it was realeased
No no I think u must have watch first chapter then u will think change your mind
This looks dope, but I'd like a bit more of that gritty claustrophobic feel of the first one. The wide architecture they got down though. Also the sound, wow.
i just hope it's not a ton of that low-end sound they pump into new large budget action films. such a cop out of a sound.
I'm actually hoping for less claustrophobic. I know that's a huge part of the genre, but I didn't like that about the first one. I wanted to see more of the world.
Patrick Butler I also want to see more of the world, and more backstory, but the scenes on the crowded, narrow streets were what made the first film feel so realistic to me. It really felt like the overpopulated mega city it's supposed to be. Hope they can recapture that spirit.
This film is a masterpiece. Saw it twice in theaters and if it was still available, I'd definitely see it again.
it´s a shame that the two Blade Runners fails in box office. The people of today don´t recognize a true work of art, but buy tickets to watch Transformers, Twilight,50 shades of grey and fast and furious. This brainless American cinema is destroying great films like Blade Runner 2049.
Most people nowadays look for action instead of plot.... Shame really.
Yeah, people just wants to watch an action flick. I understand their disappointment for this movie. I think the trailers were just misleading to them. Then again, this is an era of action and hero movies. But I believe blade runner 2049 will be a cult classic like the first one.
It will do o.k. once word gets out. This will become a staple in SCI Fi fan libraries. A modern day cult classic.
Shut the fuck up it was great.
r/iamverysmart is the place for you!
If Roger Deakins doesn't win best cinematographer this time, then fuck oscars.
EXACTLY.
Shailendra Singh fuck the oscars anyways. Who cares about that anymore? It's just political now
I think the Oscars lost all credibility after the La La Land/Moonlight incident.
You haven't even watched the movie yet...
Of please. EVERYTHING is politics. Politics deals with the inner workings of its society. It comes from the Greek word "polis" or the Greek city state.
I regret not seeing this in Cinemas so much man
Probably be back in theatres one day, highly doubt it though
Jared Leto looks way better here than with the cartoonish Joker in Suicide Squad.
He's also more menacing here than the entirety of Suicide Squad
***** And charisma
Brad Wright and eyebrows
Vincent Vega Ikr? He looks really creepy here
He was a dumb character and didn't need to be there but, wasn't really cartoonish That movie was just an unregulated disaster and the character design was shitty.
Here he just looks like a boring monotone monk dude but he could be interesting.
Atari wishes they were still around in 2049.
2049? Atari wished they were still around in 2017.
out of the whole trailer that Atari part felt out of place
That's because in the first blade runner atari was advertised as if it would still be around so they just put it in there as an easter egg
Captain Canuck where did you see Atari?
0:00 seriously in the beginning
Denis Villeneueve is *CRUSHING IT.* This looks phenomenal, practically awards worthy, all of his films, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival and the criminally underrated Enemy were all great films, and I pray this follows as well.
I definitely recommend Incendies (2010). It was his last movie before he went to the english-speaking sphere and it's totally worth it!
don't forget 'incendies' that's the movie that put him on the hollywood map. It's a masterpiece.
Daniel Uher Will check out! It's been on my list, but haven't made the time for it. With this on the horizon it seems appropriate that I watch it. Thanks! :)
Dormammu Honestly I feel it's terrible they mentioned only arrival as his film in this trailer as sicario and prisoners are far better in my opinion.
I seriously cannot wait for Dune. My favourite book of all time and one of the only directors I'd trust to do it. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Also, Polytechnique.

And Ridley Scott will have a final cut finished by then.
idk who's being sarcastic here, but the original movie took place in 2019, and this movie is set 30 years in the future in their 2049. if anyones joking here please don't crucify me for explaining
Bob Saget Your wife must be so excited to be with you!
...What??? If this is what is really going on, then that is genius. Because usually, movies like these are brought to us by pirates of the future. For instance, someone traveled back from 1997 to give us Escape From New York. Haven't you watched time traveling documentary called The Terminator. It explains how these types of movies are brought to us.
