In 1966, Max Ingrand, a world renowned glass artist, was hired for a major expansion project at St. Mary of the Woods in Chicago. Over fifty years have passed since the completion of Ingrand’s floor-to-ceiling stained glass arches, and they’ve slowly gotten buried in the annals of history by Ingrand’s other great accomplishments… until now.
St. Mary of the Woods invites you to be inspired by the church’s “forest” of stained glass that honors the Blessed Mother for a unique evangelization project. Eight depictions of Mary are seen in Ingrand’s panorama - each version representing a different spiritual devotion of the Catholic faith. In the medieval period, the artwork in churches was used to teach the faith; in keeping with that tradition, we’ve invited a variety of speakers to help explain the meaning of the eight Marian stained glass windows.
