This just might be my favorite video of yours. One topic that I don’t think gets enough attention in the online music production advice space is the disparity in signal characteristics between tracks recorded directly through a sterile preamp and tracks recorded through analog on the way in. Would love to hear about your experience with bridging that gap. Happy new year 🎉
You just need to add more character when mixing! Saturation, analog compression modelling etc. Or have a hybrid setup and have some outboard gear to add that analog color.
One of the top best videos on just giving tips on this subject for sure! Does not push anything on you, and makes you aware of topics outside of mixing that correlate with it. Amazing channel find for me!
Nice tips. The very first one about Production taking a 5 to 10, I would have liked to hear a sample of a 2 or maybe a 5 to see what could not be done. Maybe list the important steps required to ensure at least a 7 during the initial recording process.
@@masteringcomI do agree from experience, I’ve opened up some of my very first finished tracks that I’ve had sitting on garage band for like a year and a half, and the lack of knowledge that I had then created multiple unfixable issues; the worst problem and main cause of some of this was Bouncing the audio file with all the plugins I thought I knew what I was doing on a track. Once you bounce, especially on IOS garage band, you’re not getting any chance to fix it
One of the best videos I've seen on the subject for beginners (in my case). Straight to the point and deeply informative. Thank you for taking the time to explain things in a very objective way and for the emphasis on making conscious decisions based on facts and context. Not so easy to find these days. Cheers!
We really needed this. The close your eyes one is really amazing. I've found myself finding mistakes faster when i close my eyes and listen to the mix.
If the audio is great, the mix is great. Doing mixing for non par quality, makes a mixing session last 5x longer for me. I long for great quality, so a great quality mix is created.
I love the shut your eyes move. If it sounds better it sounds better. Forget the 150$ you spent on a plug in . A lot of times we use plug ins just because we bought them. So stop buying them ! And MIX! Is that sound gym lessons on frequencies? I know what I want or don't want when I eq . But I have to sweep to find it. I think when sweeping you lose site of the initial frequency and start messing with anything you sweep over that u you don't like. Which most frequencies jacked up 20 db sound shitty. Good video I learned quite a bit. Thanks.
It looks like you use VSX headphones. For someone who can only mix on headphones I’m curious if you did a review on them and tips? As well your use. Also, why is the lead vocal track in stereo?
I really enjoy the content in these videos. However, the video editing is overkill. Too many cuts with a zoom on the same camera angle. It’s disorienting and the frequency makes it feel instantly cliche. Otherwise, great video. Thanks.
Get the free Mastering Compression Cheatsheet if you want your tracks to sound loud & dynamic at the same time: go.mastering.com/mastering-compression
Why do you need our phone number in order to get it? I'm fine with email, but uncomfortable giving anyone I don't know my phone...
FINALLY. These type videos with Rob or Dylan are the only reason we ever watched the channel to begin with. Welcome back.
Thanks Michael!
That’s the truth. I learn the objective with them😂😂😂
I agree !
Rob, so great to see your face again. You’re a natural with this and an amazing teacher. Hope you are well!
Jason, great to hear from you man! How are you?
@@masteringcom Doing well!! Thanks for asking. Really enjoy seeing the reboot and what you guys are doing!
Great info Rob and great editing!
Telefunken studios actually also has tons of multitracks as well. Highly recommend those. Probably have a few bands you listen to

Yep we just moved in and there’s some pretty quirky wallpaper!

They’re great. I still prefer my Audeze LCD-X but for the price VSX is pretty flat and the software is actually pretty helpful.

You're lucky to be working with Ghostly Beard!
I’m not personally working with them, I use material from the Cambridge multitrack library for videos
Left -, right brain theory is outdated FYI Essentially, we are just switching "modes", but mind you: I always use both sides... see? 😁
THESE ARE ALL BOUGHT AMD PAID FOR POSITIVE COMMENTS! 😂ITS SO OBVIOUS!😂
What makes you say that?
ok all goo but LEFT BRAIN is the CREATIVE side and RIGHT BRAIN is TECHnical you got it backwards

Thanks for the feedback!
I just don't want to hear "give me a reason to leave" I do not wan't this negative repetitive sort of thing in my life.
It doesn’t give any points at all
Cut everything at 700hz, there's always too much 700hz.
In listening to and working with music for a long time I realized I don't know what's good anymore. 😐
Take a break, manage your perspective!
Please talk slow ,I can't follow with u r word

13 mixing tips.
Number one: Mix better.
This doesn't bode well for the rest of the video. *hard facepalm of disappointment
I think you misunderstood - watch again
@@masteringcom I'm sorry. "Mix better in relation to your expectations on final product."
Lol!
To0 fast!!!!!!
Rewatch as much as you need!
Sometimes "why am I doing this?" Is the first question 🥲🤣🤣
Lol!
