I was about to say, this seems much better than melodyne and newtone. I havent used it yet but I get a lot of bad effects and sounds from the other two
@@tylerssoul I agree. I've used Melodyne before and found that while its interface is unbeatable, I can hear the plugin working a lot more than ReaTune, and I hate that boxy roboticised tone it puts underneath the vocal. It seems much less apparent in ReaTune! I'll have to keep on with it for a while to ensure I don't just have a case of 'fun new thing' syndrome, but I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with it!
Kenny, you truly are a master with this tool. Thank you for continuing to make remarkable videos that truly help instruct. I just have no clue how you do this so well in that short of time, but somehow you always pull it off. Ever so grateful.
In case anyone has this problem, I have had the "sizzle" issue with ReaTune, but I noticed something with Freeze in this tutorial! When Kenny played it in real time with manual or auto correction (6:09), it did the sizzle on the s of "horse" making it buzz like "horzze". BUT when he did the Freeze track and rendered it offline, he played it back (7:01) and it didn't do the sizzle/buzz! When he unfroze and played again (7:26) it was back! I haven't tried comparing it myself yet, but maybe the Freeze/Offline Render fixes the sizzle? I'm guessing the CPU doesn't like correcting it and playing back all at the same time, so my new approach will be to do all my correction and then Freeze. Without the buzz, this plugin could be perfect! And, thank you, Kenny, for these tutorials. You totally rock.
I have to tell you, I normally can't stand video tutorials, especially when they are the only way to get information. However, yours are the best I have seen. You say what you're going to say and you show it and there's no wasted time. Thanks.
Man, this was a life saver. I 've been an anti-AT guy forever but have a track where overall the vocals provided to me are very good and there were just a few wincy pitchy parts and this fixed it right up. Thanks again, Kenny!
Great video, but holy shit freezing and unfreezing tracks to save CPU is the feature I knew I always needed but wasn't sure what to look for! Thanks Kenny!
This was just what I needed to fine tune my recordings!! Thanks bro. Reaper is the best investment I've made towards my love for music! So glad I went against the grain and chose it for my DAW.
I'm constantly amazed by how powerful a tool Reaper is - the best decision I ever made, to switch to this. Thanks so much, Kenny, for opening up the world of this brilliant DAW with your great tutorials!
I had to use this effect to fix a slide guitar part on a blues tune. I selected the key as Kenny did, then selected the additional blue notes I needed (the tune was in E, I needed G and Bb). Then follow the same manual tuning process, and the lead track wound up sounding great. Just tweak the start and end points of the corrections for a little "slide into the note feeling". Great plug-in, and great explanation. I love this channel.
Forget Trump, forget Biden, forget Johnson, forget Corbyn.......Kenny Gioia should be president, prime minister, pope, sultan, prince and God!!!! Reaper was already an amazing piece of software but with Mr Gioia explaining and guiding and demonstrating its many features it is even better. Whenever I need tips or advice or a "how to" I always come here first. And I always find what I need and get inspiration to do even more. Thank you Kenny!!!
Whaaaat! I was thinking about buying a plugin for vocal tuning, but this sounds really good. So happy to have bought Reaper. So many things to learn. Thanks Mr. Gioia!
Thanks Kenny, pretty good explanation! I'm also using ReaTune from time to time and what I've recognized occasionally is some sort of sizzling or distortion artifact on consonants in certain cases. I guess it's best when the plugin doesn't affect "S" or "SH" consonants. Sometimes you have to readjust the end of the blue line until the result sounds artifact-free. In the video you can hear the effect at 6:09 on "horSe" (compared to "horse" at 2:39). What's your opinion?

yes, when changing the pitch of an "sss" or "shh" it may come out sounding unnatural in any tuning software. the only true workaround I know of is to replace that "sss" with the one from the original (not tuned) version of the vocal. it takes time if there are a lot these in the song, but if you're after a clean sounding result thats what it takes
One of your tutorials taught me to add buttons to media items, so I added the "E" (envelope) button. Now my go-to pitch correction tool is the pitch envelope for certain media items. Of course, compared to ReaTune, it lacks some of the visual representation, but personally that's not a big loss for me, and it's also perfect for tracks that need pitch correcting in just a few places. Also, I'll definitely have to use the freeze track function more often. Thanks, once again! Best Reaper tutorials out there!
Pitch envelope is also better in that it doesn't snap to exact pitches - sounds more natural than 100% autotuned, like with the auto version of Reatune.
You are amazing, such a life saver, I feel like every reaper issue or question I have you've done a video on and saved me a ton of headache, thank you!
I tried this and turned a total junk of vocals into a decent one. Literally saved my song I say. And all of my future ones...I needed this because I'm not a singer and don't have anyone to sing for me. I can't thank you enough Kenny, you nail it every time man!
@@ashemorgan1638 hopefully you already figured it out by now. I often use 12th fret harmonics to tune the lowest strings on my bass. If the intonation is set properly this should be accurate. Some tuners can't recognize the lowest frequencies, especially if you go for anything below E standard.
"...and now we can work through entire performance" :) Vocalist will be a star and sound engineer will stay unknown guy :) That's how this world is rumbling. THX for tutorial.
I’ve been at it for over a year now and a lot of things have really clicked mostly lately , but you will find it gets heaps easier. The hardest part for me was not knowing what the problem was and what to search for , I literally had no idea what “arm a track “ even meant lol. Now I’m able to write full length songs which I play every instrument for and songs I’ve had in my head for years have finally been given life and it’s changed my life , spiritually and mentally where I feel happy. I attribute that to being able to express myself now I know how to utilise these tools . Hope you are well bro, share any work you get done , you can find my work on Soundcloud soundcloud.com/mattyjamesbritton
Britto I love everything about this comment. I recorded my first song ever with Reaper tonight even though I didn't know what I was doning for a long time. Really happy to hear you've been able to express yourself too.
@@jordandennis1585 that's awesome man! I'm just now learning about all of this DAW stuff. I have Reaper and I'm UA-caming every single thing. Once I learn something, I run into another learning curve about something else. This is WAY harder than I thought it would be. But I'm looking forward to learning everything I can to do this! Glad you're finally doing your songs brother!
I always use autotune but i swear this sounds really good. Also the interface on AT can be a bit clumsy especially zooming. This looks really nice and i will give it a try.
Kenny - I am posting this suggestion here as it concerns pitch correction. Recently I have started moving away from using plugins for pitch correction and have begun relying on Reaper's take-based pitch envelope for this purpose. I find that it is much easier to get natural-sounding vocals with this method than when using REATune or other pitch correction software, whether in automatic or manual mode. You may want to consider doing a video on this feature. As always, your efforts are appreciated!
Thanks for the tutorial, saved me from buying pricey auto tune vst. It’s unbelievable to know that such good vocals is still getting flat/#, honestly I didn’t notice that.. maybe some obvious few but not a lot like what program detected 😂
I think the fancy versions of Melodyne have polyphonic pitch tracking. So, for example, if you have an acoustic guitar performance with one string out of tune you could in theory just tune that one string in the plugin.
What happens if there's multiple key changes in a tune and I want to use the manual correction? I'm using this plugin now and it works well but I'm trying to figure out how to set the key for different key changes in the tune and have it switch to those keys at certain points in the timeline with my changes in those specific keys. My verse is in a different key than my bridge, and my chorus is in another key as well. I find that doing some light tweaking is the best way to go. I'm actually leaving some slightly flat and sharp parts in, it sounds more natural.
Not sure why I've never used this on vocals, have used it on guitar and violin several times with mixed results. That said, you save yourself a lot of time by just getting a good take.
