As a small youtuber, I think you are making a mistake. I've thought of making membership or subscription things, but I'd only ever create bonus content for that. I'd never lock behind my established content that my viewers have come to expect. That would only alienate and hurt my own audience, and it seems like that's what's going on here. I know UA-cam doesn't pay much - I don't even want to think about what my "hourly wage" would be for my tiny channel, but I keep it up in the hope that, someday, I can make it all worth it. I hope that you, in a much better position than I am, reconsider this.

Problem: they CANNOT "put their weight" into it. Why? Two things. 1. They do not have the industrial capacity to do any more than they are currently doing. They are currently fully mobilised as a war economy. Thus they cannot provide equipment for those who would be recruited if they "put their weight into it". Not that they only provide some equipment. That they cannot provide ANY equipment for those who would be recruited. 2. If they try to "put their weight" into it they would conscript masses from St Petersburg and Moscow. Putin has very deliberately avoided doing that up until now, relying on cannon fodder from Russia's remote regions who are not ethnic Russians or duping actual foreigners into fighting. There have also been the convict formations as well. He has deliberately avoided doing that up until now because he knows that if he does it there is an extremely strong chance he will be overthrown in a revolution. It's one thing for country bumpkins from back-of-beyond-istan to be sacrificed in droves for Mother Russia. It's quite another thing for urban Russians from Moscow and St Petersburg to be sacrificed in droves for Mother Russia. That's a vile attitude, but it's the attitude both Putin and ethnic Russians in the big cities have. So if Russia did try and "put their weight into it" they would likely implode the war economy and provoke a revolution. Thus the correct conclusion to draw is that this is the best Russia can give in terms of conventional warfare, or extremely close to the best they can give. They are already at pretty much maximum effort. That makes their threats even more hollow.
Feel like the best thing to do is still post on UA-cam, but make exclusive content for Patreon rather than abandoning the channel altogether. Without UA-cam you'll be forgotten, and the Patreon subs you have now will be the only ones you ever have.

As a small youtuber, I think you are making a mistake. I've thought of making membership or subscription things, but I'd only ever create bonus content for that. I'd never lock behind my established content that my viewers have come to expect. That would only alienate and hurt my own audience, and it seems like that's what's going on here. I know UA-cam doesn't pay much - I don't even want to think about what my "hourly wage" would be for my tiny channel, but I keep it up in the hope that, someday, I can make it all worth it. I hope that you, in a much better position than I am, reconsider this.

Problem: they CANNOT "put their weight" into it.
Why? Two things.
1. They do not have the industrial capacity to do any more than they are currently doing. They are currently fully mobilised as a war economy. Thus they cannot provide equipment for those who would be recruited if they "put their weight into it". Not that they only provide some equipment. That they cannot provide ANY equipment for those who would be recruited.
2. If they try to "put their weight" into it they would conscript masses from St Petersburg and Moscow. Putin has very deliberately avoided doing that up until now, relying on cannon fodder from Russia's remote regions who are not ethnic Russians or duping actual foreigners into fighting. There have also been the convict formations as well. He has deliberately avoided doing that up until now because he knows that if he does it there is an extremely strong chance he will be overthrown in a revolution. It's one thing for country bumpkins from back-of-beyond-istan to be sacrificed in droves for Mother Russia. It's quite another thing for urban Russians from Moscow and St Petersburg to be sacrificed in droves for Mother Russia. That's a vile attitude, but it's the attitude both Putin and ethnic Russians in the big cities have.
So if Russia did try and "put their weight into it" they would likely implode the war economy and provoke a revolution. Thus the correct conclusion to draw is that this is the best Russia can give in terms of conventional warfare, or extremely close to the best they can give. They are already at pretty much maximum effort. That makes their threats even more hollow.
Feel like the best thing to do is still post on UA-cam, but make exclusive content for Patreon rather than abandoning the channel altogether. Without UA-cam you'll be forgotten, and the Patreon subs you have now will be the only ones you ever have.

I already pay Premium subscription with UA-cam. The notion that you will put your videos behind a 2nd paywall doesn't sit well with me. I do enjoy your analysis though. I'll keep an eye out for your delayed content but high risk I wont watch older content in a changing world environment.

Peter, you needed whats known in the media industry as your moonwalk moment, as in Michael Jackson’s live appearance on MTV. But instead your Gen-Z production team have given you some very poor advise. To be honest, your exposure has yet to garner the attention of those that matter. You would have benefited by staying with this model and gathered a following that transitions on to TV. Instead you’ve opted for a bitcoin version of the media subscription model and income that uses an unstable revenue stream such a Patreon. If you had stuck with this model you would found overtime regular TV slots, but for some reason you ran out of patience! Sorry Peter I'm not going to pay for some guy waving about his phone while he's out walking.
I pay for UA-cam Premium from which some of my subscription money trickles over to you for these videos. I unfortunately won't be able to sign up for your Patreon on top of all my other subscriptions of which I have way too many already. You offering these videos with a delay seems reasonable though. The money that trickles to him is less than he would get from ads being played on his videos. And the ad revenue on UA-cam does not pay enough for any channel to survive off of that alone.
Peter delivered the news about moving to Patreon the same way he delivers some of his hottest geopolitical takes - nonchalantly and as if no one in the audience would question it. And like some of his hottest geopolitical takes, it looks like he was wrong.
