      Historically, romans and byzantines were the first to translate ancient Greek knowledge, yet when the Arab Muslims build the ommayid and abbassid civilizations, they translated knowledge, then it was taken to Europe again by European students who studied in Andalusian universities and Baghdad
      I may be mistaken in some details, yet it doesn't change the fact that all civilizations contributed to humanity development

    • @Theodoros_Kolokotronis

      Of course other civilizations contributed to the evolution of humankind mate. Apart from Greeks and Romans, the Egyptians and the Persians among others, also had a significant impact towards this direction.
      My comment is highlighting the continuity and the legacy of the Greek civilization. From our Ancient Greek ancestors all the way to the medieval Byzantine Greeks that enriched our unique identity and heritage.

      @@Theodoros_Kolokotronis yes of course, I remember once that I read that an abbassid caliph used to mount a steam self driving machine called "Tayyara", similar to steam cars, in Arabic this word generally describes anything that have self movement or inner power that causes it to react or action.

      It’s well known that the Arabs had also a significant impact in sciences.
      But this splendid religious Chant, that is in fact what is registered as Byzantine music, manifests the majestic blending of our multipolar Greek heritage.
      The Byzantine chant was added by UNESCO in 2019 to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage “as a living art that has existed for almost 2000 years, the Byzantine chant is a significant cultural tradition and comprehensive music system forming part of the common musical traditions that developed in the Byzantine Empire”.

    One of the most thrilling historical novels set in the Byzantine Greek Empire during the last Siege of Constantinople, is “The Dark Angel” (original title Johannes Angelos), of prominent Finnish writer, Mika Waltari.
    Truly epic.

    Warren Treadgold;
    “A Concise History of Byzantium”,
    “A History of the Byzantine State and Society”,
    “Byzantium and Its Army, 284-1081”,
    “The Byzantine Revival, 780-842”.
    Gustav Schlumberger;
    “Un empereur byzantin au dixieme siecle: Nicephore Phocas”,
    “Byzance et les croisades”,
    “Récits de Byzance et des croisades”,
    “ Le siege la prise et le sac de Constantinople par les Turcs en 1453”.
    Sir Steven Runciman;
    “Byzantine Civilization”,
    “The Fall of Constantinople 1453”,
    “The Great Church in Captivity: A Study of the Patriarchate of Constantinople from the Eve of the Turkish Conquest to the Greek War of Independence”,
    “Byzantine Style and Civilization”,
    “The Last Byzantine Renaissance”.
    All epic, truly an academic treasure.

      Undoubtedly Greek mate. These books are not novels.
      Being the predominant ethnic group in the region of Constantinople and Ionia already for a millennium before the Roman Empire emerged, Greek people never vanished from their native lands. Hence it was only natural for the Eastern part to retain its pre-existing Hellenic identity and background.
      The testimony of the Byzantine Empire is evident to this very day across the region, in every single Byzantine Church and monument, but first and foremost in the majestic Cathedral of “Hagia Sophia”, still standing for 1500 years now..

    Phos hilaron - a Song of the Light.
    Hail, gladdening Light, of his pure glory poured,
    Who is the immortal Father, heavenly, blest,
    Holiest of holies, Jesus Christ our Lord.
    Now we are come to the sun’s hour of rest,
    The lights of evening round us shine,
    We hymn the Father, Son and Holy Spirit divine.
    Worthy are you at all times to be sung
    With undefiled tongue,
    Son of our God, giver of life, alone:
    Therefore in all the world your glories, Lord, they own.

    Not bad. I hope you can make Roman Latin music at some point. I run a guild on a video game that takes our inspiration of Rome. We need music to march to in populated areas. You earned a new subscriber.
    Edit: just because I want to hear it in Latin doesn’t make me a non Christian. I just think different languages are unique. I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful at all. I like the song in Greek and I would listen to it Greek but sometimes I want to hear Latin Christian chants because of the beautiful dialect. Also my guild is basically a Roman legion Christian guild. We basically have Christian events in game like a chapel in our guild hall for Sunday service because some of us work and can’t go to church while also helping others.

    This is not real Byzantine music since it lacks the ornaments. This is basically a Gregorian choir singing a Byzantine chant without any knowledge of Byzantine musical history. I can distinguish between a real Byzantine chant and a Westernised version. This is as if a hymnbook from Byzantium was found in a Catholic monastery archive and the monks decide to have a go at it, which is an interesting concept.
    I do not mean to say the song is bad, far from it, but the viewers should know that this is actually a Gregorian rendition of a Byzantine chant.

      in many countries like Syria Lebanon Jordan, the church follows the regime and does what the regime tell them to do, and they are killing the idiology instead.

    It was the Roman Empire not the Byzantine Empire. Byzantine doesn’t make sense. The city was renamed to Constantinople…. Doesn’t matter that they were ethnically Greek this had been the case for the Romans for centuries now all across the empire on top of that the Empire still did state and military work exclusively in Latin until Heraclitus changed it in the seventh century.
