Please see the comments from KawhackitaRag for information about the music played in this video.
Such a great time we all had at the West Coast Ragtime Festival this year. I sure hope you can come and enjoy the fun next year!
This is the 2nd video of the exciting music we enjoyed on the last evening of the festival during the dinner party on Sunday night 11-18-07. There were several great piano performers enjoying the occasion and entertaining the crowd until the wee hours of the morning. Like a bunch of kids, we just couldn't drag ourselves away from the fun just to go to bed.
Please visit the websites above for information about the festival, these performers, and their CD's.

I discovered Tom Brier, Alan Swanson, et al a few months ago and cry tears of joy every time I find time to play these videos. Clearly these musicians enjoy what they do. I wish I had the talent and skill to attempt playing this stuff myself. I also enjoy the postings while listening.

They start off with "The Birds' Carnival" by Zez Confrey, 1936. At 3:09 is "Hot Cinders" by Joseph Lamb (probably composed c. 1930 but not published until 1964). At 5:29 is "Mo'lasses" a pop song by Luckey Roberts and Alex Rogers, as played by Luckey himself on QRS word roll 2306 (August, 1923). A recut of this excellent roll is available from BluesTone music rolls.

When you're good, you're good. Plus, they are having way too much fun doing this.

Adam, my favorite ragtime pianist, looks to be about 12 in this. I know he was older, but it still adds a little extra pleasure to watching the vid.

    Ida,
    Marvelous indeed! We missed you!
But there will be another time to look forward to. We sure had fun didn't we! What a great festival.

It was a great jam session. You gotta post the bit where Tom and Adam played Maple Leaf Rag in B major -- perhaps the most difficult key in which to play it!

    Ron,
I don't think that I recorded that one, but as I go through all of the tapes if it shows up somewhere I'll post it.

I'm pretty sure I saw you recording it... I would have, otherwise!
