  • From 1980 set 7860 is the Remote Control Signal which allows from block controlled wiring if LEGO train track from the 12v era. Thus you can control it much the way we did traditional model trains before DCC became a thing. Also has a signal light indicating if it the train is clear to go or must stop!

Good video! Power to the 12V era! This should be available for PF trains...

Yes! It's brilliant! That's why I love the 12V system and I think it's the best! I use several of these on my layout. But I want more of these! Together with remote decoupling, switching and 7866 my layout is fully remote controlled just like an H0 scale model railroad. During the 80's LEGO was brilliant!

always happy to see more 12-volt track reviews from you, it's fun to learn more about it and I like how you compared it to other scales from other model trains

Wow, this kind of stuff is really what made the Lego 12v trains great. You could build and wire them like a real model railroad. It wasn't just a train toy for kids, you could really operate it like any other kind of model railroad, it was meant to be taken seriously. They just don't make stuff like this anymore.

Great video very informative and interesting. I really wish Lego would invest heavily in their Train theme like they did in the 80s and 90s. I guess it's not as profitable Lego, but there's certainly a market for it. I need 12v trains in my collection.

I have to say the 12v trains seem to be the best.
working lights, working switches, can automatically switch tracks, can power gates, etc
better than any current system we have

I always find the 12V LEGO train area to be the most complete one (I could only drool over it as a kid, it was very expensive back in the 80's). I wish they would do something similar today with the power up with rail switches stop / go lights and road crossings. I have built some of it using power functions but it takes some real estate.

Part of why i love these old 12 volt train tracks is how amazing they look compared to the newer plastic ones.

Awesome set. I always used to dream about owning a setup like this back in the 80's.😀👍

It was the 7722 I happened upon a few years ago that got me re-started. It was your video on that set that I finally hunted down (there weren't many) that gave me fuel. Now having 8 powered engines and enough cars for a smallish layout I still adore the 7722. I've since modded it to PF and wired in a lamp for the front and I love watching it climb, wind and emerge through some fun scenery that's evolving. There's a public park and on the lit stage is Cheap Trick. seriously, it actually looks like them, Daxx is there until I can create a Bun E. Nothing against Daxx, I'm 47, they're MY memories LOL.

Old video, but still relevant. As you said, the gray 12v is still the best, and because of the accesories.

The 9volt trains look the best but 12 volt trains have the best playability and this set is the reason why

LEGO need more basic stuff like rolling stock,signals,Foot-Bridges,road signage etc.Shooty, magnetic, netty playsets just don’t cut it.

    • @alexshepherd
      @alexshepherd 4 роки тому

Exactly the same :) this was early LED technology, not like the super-bright LEDs that came later. But these were super-reliable. I’ve never known one to stop working or dim with age, and it was an elegant way to make the red/green swap with polarity

My train layout also uses selectors, but I got mine from a book from 1958 also you should leave any accessories up, when reviewing the trains for the rest of the month

Hi ! I just discovered your channel, and it's very interesting, even for a non lego collector like myself ! :) I remember about those 7860 remote controls, but I was a child and didn't understand what was their purpose. I now all make sense :D
May I ask a dumb question ? I see that you live in the USA and use this generation of lego 12v trains. I do own two of those beautiful trains : my parents bought me them when I was a child and was living in France (7735 and 7715 equiped with 12v engine). Those make use of 7864 transformers which are targeted for european 220v. I am now living in Canada, and I was wondering what would be the best strategy for using those trains with 110v. Are you using voltage converters or do you use 110v specific transformers ? I am asking because I wasn't able to find 110v equivalents for 7864 transformers, but since this is kind of new to me, I might be missing something.
Thanks for all the content offered in your channel. Many hours of entertainment and nostalgia to come :)

Hello! Chanced upon this comment randomly- I live in the US as well, so I can help you with this. I've been running 12v trains for a couple of years now, and I've been using what is known as a "step up and down" transformer. It not only switches the outlet type, but also the voltage- so I can plug the 12v transformer (7864) into the converter (outputting 220v), which plugs into our standard 110v outlet. You can find these types of transformers on Amazon, they'll typically cost you around $30. I believe I covered it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ipS8o7NAnEw/v-deo.html

you took the signal in wrong direction. How could the train driver see the red or green light, when you use it so? It should stand at the end of the stop section.
