Love your reactions Jeremy and Jillian! Your unswerving loyalty towards Home Free is so adorable! Fun fact - Tim said in Home Free Histories (on Chris Rupp's channel) that he knew neither Home Free nor Filharmonic were going home. He also said that his "We ain't going nowhere!" was a flippant aside that he did because the producers wanted some kind of banter to make it seem like they were fiercely competitive and he really didn't have anything bad to say about the Filharmonic!
If you know what Ben actually said in advance you can kind of tell that “beat box-off” was cut in because his demeanor is so different from the rest of the clip. That’s the reason everyone was laughing so hysterically and Shawn was saying “I love Ben”. And Ben looked a little sheepish and says “What else can be said.”
That just shows you who home free is! The show tried to get them to be more competitive and go against each other. But home free wouldn’t have it. And this was the outcome! This was my favorite out of the whole episode because it’s fun but also because it shows what kind of people they are!
Tee it up for the Judges. The song was from "Caddy Shack" so it was a golfing reference and yes it fell flatter than Kansas. I love this part of "The Sing Off" videos. The Filharmonic and the Home Free guys seem to have a similar sense of humor and while Home Free harmonies may have more strength, I firmly believe that the Filharmonic greatly improved the choreography for Home Free. The key to how great this whole performance was the shared sense of fun that each group brought to the table. Both groups brought the good times out in spades. I love it when music and fun meet together in one place at the same time. Happy Hanuka to all, day 2.
I love this video. Great reaction! A little more background about the finals of The Sing Off… After this performance the remaining groups were 1. Home Free, 2. Ten, 3. Vocal Rush, and 4. Filharmonic, finishing in that order. The Sing Off tour after the show was comprised of Home Free, Filharmonic, and VoicePlay. The group Ten was made up of 10 singers who came together just for the show and were all adults with day jobs so they couldn’t tour. Vocal Rush was a large high school group who had to get to school so they couldn’t tour either. The touring groups (HF, Filharmonic, and VP) were all professional groups before the show and all became quite successful. (Filharmonic was the “backup vocal group” for the Late Late Show with James Corden).
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Rob has a movie podcast with his friend Buegs called the Avid Indoorsman. Some of Home Free's videos have had Rob's influence from movies. Honey I'm Good and This is How We Roll are two that come to mind.
Workin' for a Living is another. If you haven't done those three, it'd be fun to have a Home Free at the movies reaction Friday where you did all three together, but I think you may have done Honey I'm Good? I'm not sure. Anyhow, if you ever get in the mood to just listen to some movie discussions, the Avid Indoorsmen is great fun. They basically go back and talk about an older movie that's celebrating some significant anniversary (20th, 35th, that kinda thing). They usually have guests that are fans of the movie. Riley Zamber of The Hound + The Fox makes regular appearances on the various MCU episodes. Amberly, Austin, Adam, and Jenika (Tim's wife) are all huge Harry Potter fans and did various episodes of the Potter movies. Chance is the guy to call in if you're doing anything Star Wars. All the Home Free guys have done various episodes. They also have a few episodes that are just movie game nights where they have some folks join them. The main thing I've learned from these is that under pressure, Adam forgets his own name and swears like a sailor, and Tim is amazingly fiercely competitive and whip smart.
The joke about "tee-ing it up" was because I'm alright was the thmesong of the movie "Caddyshack" a movie about a golfing course here in Florida (they filmed it in Ft Lauderdale) at a Country Club..and Rob was doing the badgers little dance from the movie as well. Jeremy & Gillian you guys want to see a hilarious movie, get some popcorn and watch Caddyshack...it's a little dated but still hilariously funny
Ahhhh, Caddyshack is a movie from our childhood....we need to rewatch for sure to remind ourselves of how funny it was!!! Thanks for the reminder, @miamidolphinsfan!! ❤️🥷🏻
Loved this, guys! You had the same reaction I did when Jewel made that comment to the Filharmonic. If it were me up there, I would have been worried hearing that, too. Thanks for including this in your Sing-Off reactions :)
Hey Dani!! Happy Friday! Oh good, glad I (Jillian) wasn't alone in my thinking...Jewel always slips in those zinger comments!!! Always great to see you, girlfriend! ❤️🥷🏻
I found Home Free and Voice Play both on The Sing-Off. And I have loved every moment of the ride for the last 10 years. Also, for Christmas, consider giving the Ben and Vocal Rush performance a listen. As much as HF had my heart, that was one of my favorite songs of the season.
Thanks J & J for your reaction! That was so much fun to watch & what a catchy song. Enjoyed the friendly rivalry between the 2 groups. Adam's beatboxing was so much better than the other guys on that show. And what about the dance moves from our Home Free guys. Loved it!
This was a favorite for me, but it will never take away from the individual performances. Having fun is always a way to win over the judges. They all did it in spades. I liked that Jillian said that Jewel was flaky. She does sometimes come off that way, but is it intentional!?! Great reaction this morning. I’m going to start kicking in the gears and start marking things off my list before 11:00.
"Tee it up" was a reference to the movie Caddyshack, which is where the song "I'm Alright" became famous. The movie revolved around golf, which is where the "tee" came from. It made a lot of sense if you ever saw the movie.
@Jeremy and Jillian Home Free was never in the bottom 2, therefore never had to compete in a "battle" before, but at this point in the competition the producers decided to knock out a couple groups to then move into the semifinals. There were 3 "battles" and 2 groups got sent home afterward. The judges loved this performance and kept both Home Free and Filharmonic. 🤗 The Acoustikats and VoicePlay were sent home that night. Ben Folds actually DID say "Beat Off"!! HAHA They had to retake that part! 😂 What's hilarious is that when they went on the Sing-Off Tour after the show was over, they had an actual "beat off" (as introduced by Adam, himself!!) during their performances. 😉 I'll try to find the video link for ya. There's at least one on YT with Adam Rupp, the guy from Filharmonic, and Layne from VoicePlay. 😳❤👍
WOW, Leslie!! Such great info - thank you!! We can't believe they would include "beat off", LOL!! But we of course believe you!! Thanks again and keep watching, more fun coming at 11a & 1p EST. ❤️🥷🏻
GUYS!! If you haven't watched "Caddy Shack", from wayyyyy back in the 80s, you HAVE to! It stars Chevy Chase, and it's where "I'm Alright" was released! LOL Merry Christmas!! ❤
: ) From day 1 (or Performance #1), HF was solid --- and to me!, no other group has even come close to what HF established. The Acapella World isn't all that big -- many know or know of one another. Be Safe
This is probably my favorite Sing-Off segment! I think Filharmonic and HF did it for the Sing-Off Tour, as well as a beat-off with Adam, Layne of VP, and Nico of Filharmonic. BTW Filharmonic is a word play of philharmonic and Filipino. The group is made of 1st-gen Filipino-Americans. (Which was highlighted in the show.) Season Four had some diversity in both people and musical styles. (Ages, ethnicity, dancing, make-up of group, genres, etc.)
Some of the Sing- Tour videos are pretty good. I love the one where the beatboxer one out alone on stage and show off their skills. Adam is the last and the best to come out and then they all perform together. Really good!
If you’ve ever questioned if the HF guys are actually tall, you just saw the proof. This one always makes me smile. You need to watch it a couple of more times to catch everything that was going on-my brain can’t take in that much stuff at once! See, just listen to your Home Fries, they won’t steer you wrong.
You might like to check out the opening group production numbers - they are really impressive and fun. Because of the system of featured singers, you get to hear some great voices from the other groups. Austin had done a lor of this sort of stuff as part of the entertainment staff on cruise ships (before he was promoted to bar crooner) and in those big numbers you can tell he's really in his element! You can also catch Tim singing Time of my Life.
What Ben actually said is "First beat Off" they had to ADR the beat Box off part afterwards for TV but at the Taping everyone heard the slip . They both stayed just as Tim predicted. and VoicePlay and the group they battled were double eliminated.
@musikbyjh they left in the clips of everyone laughing so hard. If you rewatch it you'll see. 🤣🤣 he said beat off & everyone lost it... but they did in fact make him say it again & re recorded it. That's why everyone is laughing so "hard". 🤭🤭🤭🤣🤣🥰
I really want you to watch the History of Home Free videos that Chris produced. Not for reacting, because they are probably too long for that, but just to understand where HF came from and for the humor of it all. And Southerner in the Snow. Epic! Thanks for all of your HF support and reactions.
Loved your reactions. Yes,Ben did say what you thought he would about the beat boxing contest. They had to cut that part out and he had to repeat it ,putting beat box off. His original comment left off the word box. It's always fun to watch these, knowing the outcome. Thanks guy!!
I love how Jeremy, without fail, starts to introduce the video every time and Jillian has to stop him...lol. I think he does it on purpose at this point just to get her reaction 😂
I want to say thank you for this reaction. I cringe when reactors do this video. Not as much as I used to. Let's just say it was like the straw breaking the camels back. In any case, Tim's reflection in C. Rupp sing off vault 5(?) did wonders for me. Just one of many reasons why I love Homefree💝💞
Well to tell you East Coast time Ben did say Beat Off. The Filharmonics got lucky and were in Pitch Perfect 3 and so was Pentatonix. Rob is actually the dancer of the group. The jokes at the end that you didn't understand was Nick using golf terms. Because of it being from the movie Caddyshack. Really enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.
6:48 the joke was that Caddyshack is a golf movie and he said “tee it” up. “Dad joke”. 9:00 I was surprised she didn’t mention how Filharmonic helped Home Free with their dancing cause that was a big deficit they had. 9:36 I saw a different version when he did say “beat off” first then corrected himself.
I agree with Jillian about Jewel…..adorable killer with her comments??? Loved it though. Yeah Rob was great as the groundhog in Caddyshack. So funny and I loved their sexy dancing. Adam was a champ! Great song. I didn’t see this initially either but I understand that they didn’t eliminate either group because they liked this so much. Good one J & J!🥰😍
I loved going through the Sing-Off journey with you again. From time to time I watch the complete show - there were some other good groups too, even though not quite at HF's level - so I enjoy seeing it all together and also seeing the difference between the groups. A group of us have started watching the Sing-Off Season 2 together (Chance was in it with the group he was in then - Street Corner Symphony). Thank y’all so much for your beautiful comments. And yes , your right about jewel. Merry Christmas and happy new year. 🎈🎊🎆
This Home Free/Filharmonic performance was a bit different than other ultimate sing-offs because they worked together and supported each other, instead of trying to one-up each other. Didn't stop Austin from flipping off the other group though (right after the hug) 🤣🤣🤣
