I believe that reason why they made Cameron win was because the writers thought that Ash shouldn't beat a lucario. Until gen 6 ash has never beaten a lucario(Even in gen 4 he technically didn't beat a lucario in the gym battle, it was a draw). Ash should have atleast reached the semi and lost to virgil instead.

I'll admit that Ash taking down legendaries was a great way to show how far Ash had come as a Trainer (though that was later negated after Unova happened). But Ash losing to a complete nobody is just stupid.
I wouldn't even call Tobias a character. He was just a wall. A wall the writers made because they didn't want Ash to win the Sinnoh League.

Kalos league is definitely one of the best.

Except for one major issue. Regardless of whether ash lost or not the real problem with the Kalos league was the pacing. First episode is mostly fine but in episode 2 it jumps straight to the quarterfinals, and ash is just seen winning a mostly offscreen fight

Kalos League was the best, but the Finals would have been better if Ash won the Kalos League as he deserved.
In my opinion it goes:
Kanto: The fact that the episode was bogged down by Team Rocket and the really rushed battle puts it as the worst for me.
Unova: Ash should have lost to Virgil not Cameron, the 6v5 and Riolu being OP doesn’t help.
Hoenn: The Hoenn league was really forgettable but not the worst.
Sinnoh: The league peaked with Ash vs Paul so they couldn’t top that, having Ash be beaten by legendary Pokemon made the most sense.
Johto: Charizard vs Blaziken was epic and a really well done setup for Ash’s Hoenn journey.
Kalos: Ash losing to Alain was actually the most fair loss Ash had gotten in the league, Alain was shown so many times to be a strong trainer and having him be the one to win in the end made the most sense.
I definitely agree with Kalos, Alain was not just some trainer they threw in. We saw he throughout the Mega specials and found his reason to why he was in the league in the first place. And like you said, he has proven many times that he is a strong trainer
Same, but the Hoenn League wasn’t that forgettable and I just hated the fact that Pikachu lost to a Meowth.

There should b little to defend Tobias. Cool as it was seeing ash beat a legendary, he got brutally destroyed there. At least all his other league losses were close but against Tobias ash stood no chance

I agree, the Kalos League was so awesome! Ash losing was sad, yes, but I don’t care. The battle was so amazing. It had me at the end of my seat from start to finish. And I agree with you, Alain winning was well deserved! 😊💖
My list:
1) Johto. I found it satisfying because of the reasons you said, and also because Harrison lost his next battle because of Blaziken's exhaustion. It shows that he's not some unstoppable powerhouse, but someone who just happened to be a tiny bit better than Ash at the time.
2) Sinnoh. Tobias may have been an unstoppable wall created specifically to stop Ash, but him being the only Trainer in Sinnoh to defeat Darkrai, let alone another one of Tobias's Pokémon, is nothing to be sneezed at. Ash went down swinging and giving it his all.
3) Kalos. I'm not mad at Greninja losing here, but the reason I'm putting this as number three is because Alain would've deserved to lose, since his quest for power was blinding him. Also, Ash never managing to beat his Charizard made those other five knockouts look a bit hollow.
4) Kanto. This battle was super rushed and took less than five minutes. But like you, I think Charizard losing was an important step in Ash becoming a Trainer who relies more on training than luck.
5) Hoenn. Again, the reasons you said. I've never liked Tyson's Meowth. Plus, Tyson winning the whole tournament afterwards didn't sit well with me. It made him less relatable, unlike Harrison.
6) Unova. All the reasons you said, plus the fact that Ash would've deserved to lose to Virgil. Ash not getting to battle him made his introduction seem really pointless. Cameron didn't deserve to get as he did.
It was cool to see ash beat some legendaries but that was not worth making him lose this badly in sinnoh
In exchange for Pikachu defeating both Alain's Tyrannitar and Metagross, I would've preferred if Goodra had been able to take out one of them instead. Other than that, I had no complaints about the Ash v Alain fight. On the one hand, Pikachu defeating two pseudo-legendaries displays just how strong Pikachu is and how much it deserves to be Ash's secondary ace-in-the-hole. On the other, it felt like Alain's Bisharp was made way stronger to compensate, and Goodra taking out a pseudo-legendary would highlight how XYZ Ash himself was also worthy of commanding a pseudo-legendary

I’m glad you didn’t rank vs Alain lower just because it ended with Ash losing. I still don’t get why people still think Ash should have won the Kalos League after all this time. I don’t really get what was different about it other than “Ash-Greninja strong” and the promotional material

Well it's alot more complex than Greninja being strong, XYZ was basically an entire arc for their power, not to mention his team had nothing but power, sure, some lacked In the league, but they all brought something to the table

It's because they hyped this league up way too much. They give ash a fully evolved team, they take him all the way to the finals, there was heaps of promotion for the league and what's more the final league episode's title made everyone think ash would win. I even thought he would too
So naturally everyone would be outraged at the stunt the writers pulled on us

Even thunder Armor makes sense if you think about it. It was used on "swellow" after all. Not just on any random flying Pokemon but "swellow". Why people keep complaining about this. Any one with more than one brain cell should be able to get over it and already understand it. You wanna know what is plot Armor? Sceptile defeating Darkrai in one hit.
I still remember the Kant league as a kid and felt very underwhelmed from it. I was expecting much better battling and a Ash vs Gary battle that we didn’t get. My only issue with the Kalos league final was the bait and switch when Greninja basically gave Charizard a massive concussion. I thought that was the end of it or would lead to the end of it in a win for Ash. other than that the Kalos league was the best one so far. The Alola league didn’t keep that standard and went back to shenanigans but in Ash’s favor this time so it felt cheapened to me.
Agreed. It was so upsetting that Ash couldn't win a league he deserved to win, and definitely could have, but wins a league where most of the competition is inexperienced.

I loved this video because you actually brought up interesting and unique criticisms. Most people would only bring up the Lucario evolution BS from the Unova league but you actually brought up multiple other criticisms to justify your choice. Great vid!
I personally still think the Johto loss was the greatest one and I personally liked Tyson beating Ash with a Meowth because as a Meowth fan we finally got glory!
I was really going back and forth on Johto or Kalos to be #1, I love them both equally really. But the scale barely tipped towards Kalos, because of Alain having a larger role in the narrative of the series :D
And then Alola came along and everyone was happy, including me. :)

Honestly I’d call the sinnoh league the worst just because it felt SO UNBELIEVABLY FORCED to have Ash lose to a guy who swept the whole tourney with a darkrai and we only met for said tourney
Alain is protagonist material character. he got his own goal, motives and journey and along in his journey he met ash and became his rival. he didnt want to join the kalos league first but he joined the kalos league because he could battle with ash again. in the mega evolution specials we got to learn much about alain from his pov. when he finally showed up in the xyz anime we knew ash vs alain is inevitable. it was such a well build crossover that I get hype from it till this day. I dont know if we get to see this kind of crossovers in pokemon anime again
Here are my rankings from least to greatest:
1. Unova league: Half of Ash's team were done dirty. This is a fight he could have won had he swapped some of the falls guys for Levanny, Krookodile or Palpitoad or saved pignite for last. The fight with Rioul and Unfezhant still doesn't really sit right with me.
2. Kanto: Really didn't how Ash's pokemon was considered unable to battle for sleeping or how Pikachu and Pidgeotto were weakened beforehand just to give ritchie the edge. Charizard being Ash's foil was okay, he was still a rookie at the point.
3: Jhoto: Looking into it, my only complaint is that I wish Blazikien used more effective moves against Charizard. Like thunderpunch or a new move. Considering that Charizard just beat a blastoise and has been training with other stronger fire types, the battle could of been handled a bit better. But it gave Ash motivation to go to Hoenn and become a better trainer.
4: Hoenn. It was a forgettable battle compared to the others but at least Tyson and Meowth had a solid enough backstory. Tyson's meowth cleary was on another level compared to the team rocket one and pikahu did have to take down a pseudo prior to meowth, so it was probably tired. But they did do corphish and Grovyle dirty in this one.
5.Kalos: I was one of the many people that was steamed at this lost and steamed that Goodra and Noivern both were jobbers. Looking into it, it made sense that Alain won. What bugs me is two things. 1. Pikachu clearly did massive damage beforehand in Charizard's base form. 2. In their second battle. Greninja in its imperfect and regular form looked as though it was holding its own rather well and came close to winning. If in the final fight they both were at full health and Charizard landed more hits, it wouldn't irk me as much. Still a good battle though.
6. Sinnoh: Yes, it was total BS how the writers had to do ash like this but if anything, it just shows how strong of a trainer his was and is. The challenger after him couldn't even take down Darkai and Ash wasn't even using all of his hardest hitters. Pikachu, Sceptile, Heracross and Swellow were very fair choices, even though Swellow didn't do much. Swap, Swellow Gible and Torkoal with pokemon like Snorlax, Charizard, Infernape, or Glaie and Ash would of probably made it to Tobia's fifth pokemon. Ash didn't need Infernape Blaze ability to beat Tobias's Darkrai who seem to be a juggernaut of sorts, he used an older powerhouse which just shows how strong of an arsenal his has. With all the new pokemon he has caught since then and know having access to mega evolution and z moves, I could see him doing much better in a six on six rematch with Tobias or at least a 3 on 3. Tobias was definitely on an elite four level like Alain but his Ace can be defeated by Ash by more than one of his pokemon.
I think the reason they gave Ash those specific Pokémon against Cameron was just because they wanted all of his Unova Pokémon to get some screen time in the League

In my opinion, Johto was the only fair loss. Not that the other leagues were bad, but Johto was the only real straight battle. No Team Rocket wearing out his Pokemon, no cramming it into one episode, no overpowered trainer with at least two legendaries, no Ash being an idiot losing to an even bigger idiot, and no overly hyped up conclusion. Just a straight forward example of Ash losing a fair fight to a strong trainer.
I am really impress that Ash made it far to the runner up at the Kalos League Lumiose Conference, but still I really wishes that he used some of his old Pokemon to Swap like he did in the Johto league. Because using the same team over and over to the next round someone would seen his battle strategies and might used hit against him and that would be bad. Beside that some of his old Pokemon back at Professer Oak's Lab were absent during both the Pokemon Black and White series and Pokemon XY series too and never been seen again. I still think they should return to Ash's team so that they have time to be trained and evolved before the Kalos League Lumiose Conference that would be very interesting but sadly that never happen.

For the loss against Ritchie, blame Team Rocket for it. They were one of the biggest reasons why he lost. They kidnapped his Pokémon, they didn't leave him alone and distracted him from the match. He had to use his Pokémon and they worked so hard that they were either weakened by fatigue or were too tired to battle. This let to Ash being forced to use an disobedient Charizard. I do appreciate that part somewhat, but if Team Rocket didn't interfered, then Ash could've made it farther. Doesn't save us from the awful rules and judges.
In all honesty, I think the thing that disappointed me the most about the Alain loss was just how unsatisfying it felt. The fact that Ash lost twice to Alain prior then went through the whole Wulfic arc to master Ash-Greninja, only for him to lose to the exact same move he lost to the first time, always rubbed me the wrong way.
Also I think it would have been really poetic for the Alain; who’s whole thing was that he wanted to be the strongest mega evolution trainer/power=everything, to get beaten by the “not” mega evolution that relys on bonds.
In all honesty I always kinda wished they just axed the Kalos league and just had the 2 of them fight on opposing sides for a bit in the Flare arc until Alain got converted, but hey, what’s done is done.

Unova
ashes worst league loss was his unova league loss against Cameron I think what the writers were going for was that Cameron gained so much experience as pokemon trainer from interacting with and battling ash causing Cameron to catch up to ashes skill level and surpass him the writers later on did the same thing with Sawyer but when it was done with Sawyer it was better written and more believable
I agree. The black and white anime is my favorite pokemon anime but they did Ash so dirty. How did Hydreigon knock out 2 mons and Lucario 3? Ik type machups dont mean anything in the anime but Cameron legit made the dumbest decisions yet still won with 5 mons. And then in the match that followed lost 3-0 i think to that Eevee user, huge letdown.
@@SnoringSnor I know it doesn't matter but just to clarify the evee trainers name is virgil. also I'm kind of mixed on the battle because their were certain parts I liked such as hydreigon taking out boldore and palpatoad Pikachu and pignite taking down hydreigon and riolu evolving mid battle into Lucario and defeating snivy and Pikachu but other then that the rest of the battle sucked because ashes pokemon defeated most of Cameron's team by 1 shotting them with super effective moves and the outcome of Cameron winning was a bad choice on the writers parts.

The Unova League Vertress Conference is the worst league of all the other Pokemon animeseasons, because this feels very shot and I was expecting Ash to battle Trip in the quarter final instead because I would like to see the rest of Trip's Pokemon fully evolved just like his Serperior and Conkeldur .
Also another reason why it suck because Ash's Pignite, Snivy, Oshawoot, Scraggy, Boldore and Palitoad didn't have time to evolve to their fully evolve form during his journey through Unova because of the Japanese writers. If they have planned to make some episodes were the rest of Ash's pokemon evolve then in the Unova League Ash would finally have three of his Unova starter Pokemon fully evolved and he could have battle his rival Virgil in the semi final and reach the top 4 like he did in the Sinnoh league. I still wished that Ash's Snivy evolved into Servine and finally Serperior back in Pokemon Black and White series because Serperior is one of my favourite Unova Starter pokemon.
Cameron- I think part of the sting of that loss is the fact that Cameron is such an idiot. He's constantly late/ getting things wrong. If it was against Stephan/ Trip/ Georgia/ maybe even Bianca, it wouldn't have been so bad. Bianca, while a ditz, too, did show her strength in battles and wasn't so confused when it came to rules, when tournaments start, life in general.

I like your videos. I really do. And I agree that battle at Hoenn League was a little boring. But you were unfair towards Tyson’s Meowth.
I mean comparing Meowth’s to Team Rocket’s one is like comparing Arceus to Caterpie. The difference is colossal.
Tyson’s far more stronger and superior to TRio’s in every way.

5 and 4 either or kanto and hoenn. Not only were the battles rushed but at the same time I didn’t like how in kanto ash Pokémon were tired and charizard refused to battle. As for the hoenn the meowth was okay I guess but the battle was missing more impact.
3. Sinnoh. I still dislike sinnoh after what they did to ash but I will give ash credit for taking down two legendaries. I just wish it would be in the finals instead of the semi finals because the finals Tobias was in the guy didn’t even defeat not one Pokémon from Tobias.

For me the most respecable league losses for ash were Johto (cos ash lost to new Pokemon he hadn't battled before like Blaziken) and Kalos, even with the backlash that loss (rightfully) gained. Alain was already shown to be pretty strong with all the wins he and Charizard gained, including defeating ten Megas and an elite four member in a row, and he wasn't introduced last minute
Hoenn was ok tho it was weird seeing Pikachu lose to a meowth but the others were disgraces
Kanto: One could blame Charizard for being a jerk and ash being a newbie but the real reason ash lost was team rocket. If not for them most of ash's Pokemon wouldn't be worn out for the match and ash wouldn't have even had to use Charizard
Sinnoh: As cool as it was to see ash beat some legendaries, ash still lgot completely destroyed in a humiliating and demoralising fashion. He was doing so well in sinnoh yet they make ash lose in such a bad way. He didn't even take out half of Tobias's team
Unova: Definitely the worst loss considering how bad they make ash look here. He lost to some idiot who brought 5 Pokemon to a full battle. What's more ash did worse than his run in sinnoh going from top 4 to top 8. Cameron should never have won that. If ash HAD to lose to someone in unova I would have at least accepted virgil, and if it were in the semifinals.

For Sinnoh, have Ash lose to the Elite 4 or even Cynthia. It shows just how much power they have, and even with him beating the Battle Frontier, he took three tries to beat Brandon, who is Champion level. Cynthia would likely be improving, as she needs to defend her title, so a loss here still makes sense.

Let’s be honest his loss to Alains is clearly the best because not only was there amazing build up to the match, but it also at a point where stakes at are a all time high, he was at the finals, at that point he had to give it his all.

Kalos easily has the best loss since it was both the easily best battle here and alain was shown to be really powerful. The fact that ash nearly won just shows how powerful he has become.

question about kalos league: how did a water type lose to a fire type move? Greninja would not have been able to let out that one powerful water shuriken if he was almost down, and he looked completely fine right before charizard let out the blast burn. It would have made more sense if Greninja was defeated by dragon claw or other non-fire moves. that would make sense to me.

Greninja is frail. Water isn’t immune to fire. In the games he can indeed be one shot by a blast burn.
Charizard X isn’t weak to water and Greninja’s super frail
Fire can evaporated water...and if we want to follow the game logic, greninja only used 1 shuriken which is just 20 base power and blast burn was 150..and throughout the battle, greninja just spam a weak move cut while charizard used multiple moves that got boosted by tough claw
Both of them had sustained injuries, and their attacks were relative to each other. However, due to Charizard’s superior experience, he was left standing while Greninja fainted. Also, Charizard X is not weak to water.

Ash losing to Tobias is very reminiscent of lots of online battles, where people just only bring Legendaries. I can still beat them, with my Fire only team, but that’s usually because they don’t really know what they’re doing. They just go with pure power.
I think the Sinnoh League and Kalos League are both the best league battles ever one showed Mega and one showed two legendaries 10/10

His loss to Alain was BS because he absolutely should have won that battle. That perfect Gary Stu and his OP Mega Charizard X did not deserve to win that battle.
So...do you have any logical reasoning as to why it was BS or are you just mad that Ash lost? Alain was mega evolving while Greninja was still a little Froakie,heck before Ash even caught it. There's a huge difference in experience and Ash Greninja had no advantage cause Fire/Dragon takes neutral damage from water. Alain had overall more experience, training,and strength than Ash did. He beat 10 megas in a row including an Elite 4. The best thing Greninja did was knock Mega Gardevoir down but that was clearly just a testing battle and at that time Greninja was losing to opponents much weaker than Diantha so there was just a lack of control.
It would have seriously made zero sense for Ash to win.

Haha that's true! I just meant that seeing Pikachu lose to a *species* of Pokemon he's beaten tons of times before was a little disappointing to me. It'd be like if Greninja returned and lost to another Charizard - I wouldn't be the biggest fan of it. Tyson's Meowth is awesome and super powerful, I just personally didn't enjoy it defeating Pikachu in the League :D
