I believe this was recorded from BBC2 on June 15th 2000 - BBC2 were repeating the ATV episodes from Eric and Ernie's career.
Goodness. This was broadcast two weeks before I was born! Roy Castle was such a lovely person. Nobody ever had a bad thing to say about it and there was never a whiff of scandal. It's such a shame he died when he was only 62. My Dad just passed away earlier this year and he was born two years before Roy Castle was.

This era of Morecambe and Wise at ATV was written by Sid Green and Dick Hills, and you can certainly see a very different tone in their script, and a difference feel to the duo. Eddie Braben changed all that from 1969 when the pair were at the BBC, and transformed them for the best.
BBC's Bill Cotton called Roy Castle "a jack of all talents, but master of few" and he felt this caused Roy's television career to stall, until he found his home on BBC children's television with Record Breakers.

Because Morecambe and Wise and Roy Castle were all staples of the BBC for many years.

Nah, Morecambe and Wise were always pretty loose -- it was their trademark style throughout their career. The audience loved it.
