Hello, I have found your work very valuable - thank you very much! I would like to ask - where is DSM actually installed - on the pendrive or on the HDs you provided? Here I used a pendrive, but now it is asking me for a disk that is not the bootloader. Thanks!
Hi, I have a question, I'm trying to run arc on my old PC, but as soon as it boots up, the computer shuts down. If I start Windows on this computer from the hard disk, everything works fine. I used different flash drives
Thank you for videos on this topic. I didn't know that it was important to other people. It sure is to me, because Synology charges too much for their hardware. Especially as a student, it's just too much to invest in. And, I would like to learn some of it where I can move jobs and make a little more money to help pay for my tuition.
Thanks for the video. I stumbled across your channel when my DS220J gave up and I was looking for a new model. One question, as I already have two 14TB HDD in RAID configuration with DSM 7.3 installed on it, how can I connect the HDD to the new DSM installed on PC? I basically want the new PC (with DSM installed) to boot from the old HDD having DSM installed.
Hi, if you want to move to a new PC I w’d recommend first try to install DSM on your new PC without moving your drives if that works then power it move your drives and then build the loader again and install DSM. Your drives with DSM should be detected by the new DSM model and data should stay intact. Also check Synology help which DSM model you can move directly from DS220J. Best of luck.
Thanx for video, it was very helpfull. One question. I need to have usb drive plugged in for every time NAS boot? I mean after I install everything and shutdown NAS, for next boot I need to plug in initial usb drive?
I have followed this tutorial and successfully installed synology on a pc, does this synology system run on usb boot? and can it be installed on one of the internal hard drives? thank you for the tutorial, it is very helpful.
Well, no one should be able gain access to your NAS if your using basic security setting even, like strong passwords, MFAs and IP block settings etc I have created a video on basic security setting on synology NAS.
You mean you want to boot the loader from your harddrive and not from USB? If so, you can pick a small SSD and make it bootable for the loader and boot your PC using this.
hi..my quickconnect working.but the advanced media extension not working and appear the message that keep contact the support.is there any way to get it work?
Thats fine, everybody is beginner at sone stage, 🙂 For patch key you’ll have to login to developer’s discord Channel and link your UA-cam/github account. Its explained in the video.
You need to verify your account with any of these two, not sure why its linked to your github but even if its linked you should be able to see the key.
Sir how to retrieve my data on comp because when i connected the harddrive on which data is stored i cant see any connected device on my computer but in computer management i got to know that harddrive is connect but if i do anything it will format so plz tell me, dont say to download all your data from another computer i have done it but i didnt liked it
Bro i have dsm installed on my drive now how i can get my data copied on my own working pc, When i connect my drive on my win 10 pc i didnt showed up and when i go into 'Computer Management' it showed on there , Inshort i want to copy my data from the disk not from the nas
Windows will never be able to read that format. Your options are to use the loader and HDD on another PC then copy it over LAN to your Windows PC, buy the same device from Synology that matches your loader then copy your data over LAN from the DS to your Windows PC, or make a live iso of MDADM (not on your data HDD) and copy the data to a new HDD. Most people go for option 3, but if it were me I would go with option 1 since my Linux knowledge is shaky. A used desktop should be cheap on eBay if you don’t have one laying around.
ขอบคุณมากเลยครับ อธิบายละเอียดดีครับ ทำตามแล้วใช้งานได้ครับ
Thank you man. Your content is my favorite since you started this series. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Thanks :)
Thanks for this! Set up a machine as a NAS following your video!

DSM has its not partition on each drive, which carry DSM info.

I used different flash drives
I found out that it was because of the UA blocking. It is a pity that the whole country is suffering because of a stupid person

Question Tho. I will be making one soon. My question would be is link aggregation to combine bandwidth for example 2 x GBe Ethernet possible?
Haven't tested it but as long NIC is supported it should be fine.

Yes, you need to leave the usb plugged in otherwise it wont boot into vm.
@@ThinkSmartHome Tnx for the quick response. What to do if usb die?
Final DSM 192.168.XX.109:5000 not booting,
Host Unreachable. Kindly Help
I have followed this tutorial and successfully installed synology on a pc, does this synology system run on usb boot? and can it be installed on one of the internal hard drives? thank you for the tutorial, it is very helpful.
USB is only required for the loader to boot the PC into DSM, DSM is installed on your hard drive partitions.
@@ThinkSmartHome is it possible without USB?
Well, in this case, synology or anyone else does not gain access to our information, etc., right?
Is activating Accound this way a safe option?

no hard disk found on RS4021xs+ why?
Did you add your disk using disk import commands?

@@ThinkSmartHome Thanks, Worked for me
Please insert atleast one sata/sas/scsi for system installation, except for the bootloader disk.
Why??
So you don't have any drive in your PC?
@@ThinkSmartHome i am changing my pc. Some pc boards not supported
Nice video.

Sir what if just decrypt the patch of older Verison of dsm
Each version has a different key so you must use the key which for that specific version.
how can I get the patch key (sorry, I'm just a beginner)
Thats fine, everybody is beginner at sone stage, 🙂
For patch key you’ll have to login to developer’s discord Channel and link your UA-cam/github account. Its explained in the video.
I had access to it last week it the discord section still open?
hello in discord i have link my youtube but it is taking my github account .. am not able to have the patch key
You need to verify your account with any of these two, not sure why its linked to your github but even if its linked you should be able to see the key.
Did you ever figure this out? Im having the same issue

Bro if you have installed DSM on your drive then it has formatted you drive so technically there is no data on your drive
