I really can’t thank you enough! I’ve been at this song and solo for months and have just about got it down and that is in huge part to this fine instruction. Much appreciated 🙏
Love the videos. I’ve always tried playing like Jerry, but never broke down his exact solos for the most part. These are incredibly helpful and it’s fun to play a solo like this note for note. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Zack Adley jerry has a sort of hybrid picking since the lose of his middle finger. The middle is the most accessible finger for picking. Jerry also used his wrist to pick and that's a bad habit from what I was taught. Use your arm to pick and should save your wrists from cramping up. There also was that brief coma jerry was in and he basically had amnesia and had to relearn the guitar!
Thanks for these lessons! You've been an awesome help to me! Im able to connect and learn from your lessons in a way im unable to with most other people on here😚
Such a shame your account has only 2000 some subscribers. I always feel like a champion when I finish learning a lesson and can jam over my favorite songs!! Would love to see a good lovin solo lesson from the studio version on shakedown street in 1977. Or Bird song from the Warfield in 1980 as well❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic Lessons. A Brown Eyed or Ramble On Solo would be sweet. Feeling adventurous? I would be grateful if you could tackle Jimmy Herrings Scapegoat Blues. Its really tricky and no one has anything slow and solid on it. Do you give Skype Lessons? Thank you again
So siick bro, thank you so much. I would love it if you were to help out with the simple twist of fate that Kahn and Garcia do on 1-31-86, Ive been trying for a while to master it. And your a great teacher man ....big ups!!!
Looking forward to digging in on this - your scarlet Cornell video got my attention. One comment - if somehow you could make the max volume louder it would be great. I listen on the subway in NYC on the way to work and can hardly hear unfortunately haha. Other thing - you mention in the beginning it’s key of G, why wouldn’t it be C? 1 4 5 being C F G? Although I’m not sure how the B flat fits in if it’s C though...
James - Thanks for watching! 2 things: 1) On my more recent videos (including this one) do you feel the sound still needs to be louder? I've improved on the recording of my sound a lot since the Scarlet Begonias (Cornell) video. 2) Now that I look at it again, I would agree with you that it is in the key of C. The naming of keys can be subjective at times, and at first I felt the emphasis was on the G chord (meaning it was in the key of G Mixolydian - sharing the same key signature as C major). However, looking at it again, I would agree with you that the progression resolves around the C major chord. There are some borrowed chords in the song. If it were in the Key of G Mixolydian, then the Bb chord would have been a bIII chord. But since were agreeing that it's in the key of C, the Bb is a bVII chord, and E7 is a III7 chord. That being said, I'm going say that Dire Wolf was originally in the Key of A on Workingman's Dead, and was later changed to the Key of C. Thanks for clearing this up!
Awesome I’ll check tomorrow when on the train - was in a quiet room so probably wouldn’t have noticed Cool on the key question - looking forward to bouncing ideas / questions off you
If you download the transcription from my blog, it has the chord chart for the entire song. weepingwillowguitar.com/dire-wolf-lesson-jerry-garcia-acoustic-guitar-solo-video-lesson/
Isn't "true fact" an oxymoron? Anyways, is that really true?Weir sang it on 6/21/69 while Garcia played pedal steel, but Jerry sang it their first performance, on 6/7/69.
Weeping Willow Guitar Lessons Yep. Thanks for tutorials. I was totally messing around when I commented on the Touch of Grey video. Your thumbnail. Jerry “Garica”. Did you notice?
This guy just does the best lessons!! I’m blown away
As always, a thoroughly enjoyable breakdown/explanation of a song near and dear to the heart.

Sounds good!
Keeping it "simple stupid " love it.
Hey man can you please tell me the entire chord progression so I can solo over it like you did? I want to look the chords and solo.
If you download the transcription from my blog, it has the chord chart for the entire song. weepingwillowguitar.com/dire-wolf-lesson-jerry-garcia-acoustic-guitar-solo-video-lesson/
Great lesson. If you, like me, just want to see it played slowly to pick it up, skip to 14:19 fyi.
Uh.... Is that a Seagul?
Indeed it is! 😉 That was my first decent acoustic guitar.
0:26,
Jerry "dont murder me"
Kurt Cobain "rape me"
😲
Please don't murder me..................
Bob Weir sang it first. True fact.
Isn't "true fact" an oxymoron?

@@StarDarkAshes Ha. No, I never noticed. Don't think I've looked at the thumbnail since I created it.
