Off the top of his head... The man is criminally underrated .. it’s amazing how many people can re-create van Halen licks.. but it’s funny how you can rarely see anyone actually re-create a Jerry solo .. And even then it’s not really “it” you know what I mean
@@RobertWeir yes fact Back in the 80s/early 90s I was learning to play he was the one player I never bothered to copy 😃 it seemed impossible I’ve now learned Bird Song from the Oregon film so fun to play atleast one Jerry song like Jerry
Thank you. Its nice to see other people get as much joy from Jerry's incredible Artistry. I love the way you describe Jerry's establishing a theme and then telling a story. Each note told a story, each phrase, each song, each time. There's not enough time to hear all the stories. Again, thanks.
The “Eyes of the World” from the Grateful Dead movie and I guess most 73 versions are my favorite. The break down about half way through gets me every time.
That’s my favorite too I wish he or somebody would transcribe that whole Eyes from Winterland 74’ it really is the best version that’s why Jerry picked it for the GD movie I think !
I strive to be as good as Jerry at his worst. I'm not even close, lol. You, sir, seem to be as good as Jerry at his best. I get so much out of watching you break down his material. Thank you very, very much for taking the time to put these together, I truly appreciate it.
oh man, great videos. Please please please do more eyes. I think it's one of the hardest tracks to sound like jerry on, and I loved seeing this lesson.
Without a Net has great versions of a lot of great songs. Especially in the late Brent years. Cassidy, Mississippi Half-Step, Eyes, HOTW/FT, Weather Report Suite/Let it Grow, Bird Song, Althea!!! All beautiful crisp versions of those jams!!!!
Seems like I am, but I'm curious to know if I'm all that much in the minority when I say I'm not all that fond of the Branford versions. I'm sure he's a fine musician but it seemed to me he struggled to find a good place to fit in EOTW.
But I would say focus on doing high level soloing stuff because I feel you can get the rhythm parts easily elsewhere and no one dissects Jerry's solos like you do.
Another beauty, Craig! Your breakdown and analysis are spot on. On another note, Hunter’s lyrics, imho, delve into spirituality. Referring to the redeemer, Jesus.
Hey man could you do how to solo over uncle John's band, brokedown palace, standing on the moon, black muddy river? Songs like that.. it would be amazing man
Hi there love the channel love the content I was wondering if you could help me identify what is happening about 50% of the live eyes of the world played , some jam on the Emaj7 to bm but the others take the jam further out to what sounds like diminished but idk I though u may be able to help shed some light. A good example of this is the eyes from Oct 19 1974 . The part I'm referring to is around the 10min mark . Thanks hoping u can help !
Eggman615 - Thanks for the comment. What you're referring to is a jam that was a part of '73-'74 "Eyes". Listing to the show you cited (10/19/74), this is a rough sketch of what's going on: (I'm using the "So Many Roads - Disc 3 track 1 for my time markings) - at the 10:12 mark it goes to G#min7 for 8 bars, then Emaj7 for 12 bars, then Ebmin7 for 8 bars, then Ebdim7 for 8 bars, then back to Emaj7 until the 13min mark. Then it's Emin7 until the 14:26 mark when the 7/8 melody happens. This is 7 bars of 7/8 followed by one bar of 6/8 that is a melody based around Eb Mixolydian. After that, 8 bars of Dmin7. This repeats until the 7/8 (+ one bar of 6/8) melody has been played 3 times. Then Dmin7 until the end.
Craig, im starting to go through the lesson piece by piece and at 7:17 you play a new part and don't go over it or show the tab. I'm sure its just an oversight because putting the videos together can be very tedious. I slowed it down and think I have it but any way you can post the tabs in a downloadable PDF?
Bret - I am going to post the tab online, but it's going to be a few days since I had to tear my room down last night to put in a new window (I'm not going to bore you with the details). Anyways, if you want to send me an email at weepingwillowguitar@gmail.com I'll send you over a pdf of the tab this evening.
The short answer is yes, but I really need some more details/context. What is it that you want to work on? (E.g. Exercises for learning scales; exercises for finding the notes on the fretboard; etc.). The more information you give me, the more help I can be.
Yes. In fact, I plan on putting out more (shorter) videos that target different levels of playing. You can help me out by telling me what it is you're wanting to learn, what exactly your level is, and the kinds of lessons you'd like to see. E.g. Would a short (5-10 min) video just breaking down the chord progression and strumming pattern to a song be most helpful? Thanks.
A 5 to 10 minute video would be excellent a strum along song, and a scale(s) to go with the video, I can do a couple of scales, and basic 12 bar blues, thanks in advance.
You can spend a lifetime on one Jerry lick, then you realize he strung together 50
Of them in one solo, never to be repeated!

Amazing how many scales and notes in a span of 4 frets but only one guy truly expressed it from heart .Thanks Jerry and Craig

One day people will realize how great Jerry Garcia really was...
He’s the most recorded artist in history (thank you tapers) I think that day has already come to pass

What's everyone's favorite "Eyes of the World" Jerry lick?
I love the one from the vault eyes. The note jerry hits to start the second solo. Perfection!
Also please please do more of these eyes licks. I’ve got all the scales down I just need those jerry sequences.
I was thinking about doing all of "Eyes". What do you think?
I would absolutely love it. Jerry at his best. Some of the phrasing on one from the vault is absolutely jaw dropping.
But I would say focus on doing high level soloing stuff because I feel you can get the rhythm parts easily elsewhere and no one dissects Jerry's solos like you do.
Nice one! Thanks. Do more Jerry motifs

Do you have any kind exercises that beginner/intermediate guitar players could practice? Weather it be on the Guitar or theory or both!
