This made me check my local long range Forcast for my area from one of our newstations, and sure enough, starting on the 6th, things start to bottom out. Freezing rain on the morning of the 7th. Right now, it only goes to the 8th, but temps for the 7th and 8th are highs around freezing and lows in the middle teens. Now, ahead of that, starting on the 1st through the 6th temps are in the 40s for highs, upper 20s to mid 20s for lows and dropping, with chances for precipitation, but on the low end right now. This does remind me of 93 where they started out with just a small chance of snow and then upped it every day. If anyone wonders, I'm located in northeast alabama in Jackson county on sand mtn.

I was in smyrna, Tn. I remember walking home with friends. We were kids and it we had to hang on to a fence until we got in the woods. A tree fell over and we huddled under it for an hour or so. Pine needles and branches on our head. I dont remember being cold or scared, just in awe. Eventually got home and we were out of school for a month. Roads like 5 inches of ice. I learned to sled that winter over pure ice. We didnt have electricity for a few days after. As a kid, it was awesome. As an adult...i cant imagine how bad it would suck.
I grew up in the area between Erie and Buffalo. Snowfall like this is just a way of life. Lake effect is insane. 1ft when you wake up. Another foot at lunch and another 10-15” by evening. More tge next say. Snow comes down so hard and fast that you’ll have 3” of new snow on your car 10mins after you just cleaned it off. I hate it now and been loving these mild winters.
The mild winters are nice, beyond gorgeous right now, but the lakes don't freeze. Unseasonably warm lakes, hit with cold quick wind; I'm thinking like two or three years ago, when I spent a week digging corridors between homes. Broke four shovels in one night, just me. Hopefully it's not like that here, more worried for those in the line of this down south, and Appalachia, but my backs getting old for this. Loved winter as a kid
78 in CT. Yes the doors had feet in front of them. My dad made me an igloo by hand! And in front of it we wrote in the snow 1978. Those were good times for our family . They r gone now so im glad I at Least have those fond memories
I was working in West Hartford and the machine I was working on that day was in front of a window that looked out on to the parking lot and I watched my car disappear under the snow. I was driving a 74 FWD Subaru with snow tires and had no problems getting back to Windsor but I had to stop a few times to help people stuck in the snow get moving.
I remember 1995 Fort Lee, VA. I was in AIT and we had to shovel snow every 3 hours for 2 days. We were freezing and exhausted AND THEN, had to go to the field to dig out all the tents and training equipment that got buried in the woods. As a kid in Germany, I played in the snow all day and never got tired… As an adult, it hits different 😅
I was stationed at Ft Lee a long time ago in food service ...then next station was in Germany ...Germany was freezing hahahaha when we had to go do field maneuvers in big tents in 3 ft of snow for two weeks
I pray for no snow or ice for January 10 to the 20th I live in NC and my daughter lives in Panama City , she has a giant mass on her kidney and she only has one kidney so if you pray 🙏 I will appreciate it . I am traveling to Florida on those dates . I need a safe passage.
Lord God, we pray for Your favor over this family. May the weather not cause any hindrance or difficulty for them. Clear all paths, guide all air and land travel, keep power flowing everywhere they are, and most importantly, heal her daughter in the name of Jesus. Use whatever means You desire - doctors, treatments, surgery, or a miracle - but I pray for health and strength and recovery for her. May this mass be safely removed, may it be benign, and may it never return all the days of her life. Grant them peace about the coming days, confidence in Your goodness, and certainty in Your almighty power to work all things together for their good. We ask You these things, believing they shall be done, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. 🙏🏼
The electrical grid will likely be strained from the increased usage to heat homes in the south and that can cause power outages. If you lose power and have no way to heat your home canned food will freeze and burst. Dry goods that won't freeze and burst is better as long as you have an alternate source method to cook those dry goods without electricity.
@@taya4389 It means there was thunder and lightning during an intense snowstorm and when there is thunder during a snowstorm it is usually called "thunder snow" and the snow becomes heavier for awhile. I have been through 3 different thunder snow events myself living here in Illinois and each time we ended up with 1-2' (feet) of snow but that was years ago!
I'm telling you if that 9th snowstorm comes from the south NC will get pounded. In my 40 years every snow storm that has come from the south a been a huge snow maker for us. I can't wait.
All forecasts and weather models are calling for slightly below normal temperatures at best and exceptionally dry weather in January. No snow expected for the east, let alone a blizzard.
Your forecasting was the easiest to understand and you did a spectacular job of explaining what’s coming. I will be tuning into you a lot more frequently. Keep up the good work.👍
Wow! This was such a pleasant change! A positive 'thank you for a job well done' message?? You must be an 'old schooler' like me lol! Thank YOU for taking the time to write a true 'APPRECIATION' note!
I grew up in the 60s and this was normal for us living in the north east. Loved it. Us kids would be out side all day. There weren’t many fat people back then.
Very true even for me in the 80’s.. tons of snow and no internet… Life was good!!! Sledding, ice skating, skiing for some…. I had so much fun.. feel bad for the kids these days.
Absolutely! It would snow much MUCH more than it has these last few years! What a blast to build forts & go sledding!! NO SCHOOL either!!😂 (way before internet!)
Christmas eve 2022 the cold temps brought down power in NC for many because they couldn't keep up with demand and equipment failure occurred. Have a backup heat source and test your generators now and have plenty of fuel on hand. Don't wait until its too late and your in the dark for a few days shivering 🥶.
You must be very young, because I have absolutely seen huge, INSANE Mid-Atlantic snow (Washington, DC; Charlottesville, VA; West Virginia, etc.) in 1978, 1993, 2010…and polar vortices that have killed people in that region.
Thank you for correctly pluralizing vortex. It’s a pet peeve of mine, so it’s always nice to see somebody do it right. I hope you have a happy New Year
I was in Charlottesville, VA in 1993, 1996, and 2009. I will never forget December 2009, 5 days before Christmas. 24” in my hometown of Orange. Snow up to my butt.
I agree that winter (78) was further east and very scary. In 76-77 the snow and cold hit Indiana and surrounding as bad or worse than 78 hit eastern Ohio and all of eastern seaboard. The weather followed me when I moved to Columbus from central Indiana. People froze in cars and houses around me, very scary and not romantic like some try to recall that mess
Anyone reading this get yourself a secondary source of heat you go into one room with turn off the water and drain the pipes in the house so they don't freeze and burst. Stay together for warmth.
Yes I'm from Indiana still live here and that was the worst experience ever crawling out the windows to get our son trying to find a store that was open trying to heat the house up lol it was so cold my father started taking the doors off the rooms in upstairs and burning them in the fireplace my mother had to stop him LOL cuz he was going to start burning some of the beds upstairs LOL LOL scary times but funny times
78….I remember. Cleveland, working in a hospital…an essential worker….National Guard had to let me through. We shut down all but most emergency care and surgeries. Now in Massachusetts, south of Boston heading to Cape. If we have to hunker down won’t be the first time.
@@dmcrisp I don’t know, here in Virginia other than that Christmas forecast, he did predict every snowstorm in this area perfectly on the dot, especially the January 8th to 16th snowstorm.
2’ of snow in Virginia is NOT historic. I’ve live my whole life in Va and I remember multiple snows of 3’. The most was 40” in 1983. 2’ of snow in the northwest part of Va was common when I was a kid in the 1970’s. Winters were much colder then than they are now and it snowed A LOT more back then.
My brother couldn’t get past Sandy Springs in that big storm. He was headed to Canton. Had to spend the night in the lobby of a hotel. At least he was warm. Still took him most of the next day to get home. There was one around 1983 that clogged up the whole of Atlanta. Roads were solid ice. When you stopped, going 2 miles an hour, you would slide backwards and hopefully didnt hit the car behind you. Atlanta is not good with snow or ice storms
I'm sitting over here at a truck stop on North Lima, OH. It was just raining in the afternoon, but now its the middle of the night and the winds are ripping through here pretty good, cooled off quite a bit too.
your Temps are way off for next week in the northeast...50-60 from Monday to Wednesday..unusually WARM...and then only going into the 40's...also ocean Temps are 5 degrees above normal, so any storms coming up the coast will pull in warmer air off ocean and bring rain...this has been the new normal for 9 years now in the northeast
You are the only Forecaster I follow who has gotten it right so far. You've been calling for the colder air since September, while everyone else was saying winter was gonna be mild and wet. I'm prepping the farm for this cold blast now.
IDK about that. I’m in Western NY and I keep hearing about these crazy snowstorms we are supposed to get and I think we’ve gotten maybe 3 inches so far.
@katespina8037 no one has forecasted any for us in the Mid-Atlantic, they have all called for no snow, mild temps, and lots of rain. We've gotten rain, but it has not been mild.
It’s been a different story out west so far I’ve never seen a Winter season so weak here in the state of MT infrequent snows and only a couple inches fall and most of it melts in the following days as it frequently dips above freezing now I haven’t seen any brutal sub zero temperatures it’s almost like a temperature climate here now rather than a continental climate because it just doesn’t get brutally cold or snow heavily anymore at least for now maybe it’s just a very late delay in Winter but I’m really hoping it stays mild for the whole season.
I live in Erie Pennsylvania and have lived here my whole life lake effect snow is no joke even today. The Thanksgiving storm we had here stranded me in my house for almost a week.
People don’t realize how inaccurate the 2 week models are. They aren’t even accurate within a few days. These same models called for white Christmas’s up and down the east coast.
So far up here in North Eastern Maine, it has been a mild winter. Yesterday was 40⁰ today it was almost 50⁰. We do not consider it cold until the night time temps go below 0⁰ As of right now, at 10:30 pm. It is 35⁰ outside at the end of December in northeastern Maine.
I’m in the same area. From what I’ve observed over the years the weather pattern that is in place in December is what seems to dictate what kind of winter we will have. If it’s -30 in December and snowing like crazy then it will be a rough winter. We got none of that this December. The euro model showing over 40 inches of snow for our area for the next two weeks is nothing short of lunacy.
Here in southern Va., the daytime high temperature hasn't gotten below the high 40s for the entire month of Dec. Most days have been in the 50s or 60s. There have been very few nights where it has gotten to the freezing mark.

The European ensemble (average) model of projected total snow accumulation in inches over the next 46 days assuming a 10 inch rain to 1 inch of snow equivalence. I'd put as much stock in that forecast as I would the outlier model that predicts nearly 2 feet of snow here in central NC.
We had 2 ft. In VA in 1993 or 94 and it was one of the best 2 weeks of my life. I was about 15 with 4 or 5 friends there and my dad smoking alot of smoke. With wood stove food and wrestling in the yard in the snow.

No surprise when nobody has winter or studded tires and yet I see crazy mfs in the comments wanting snow in Florida they need to pack their bags and move north if they really want that crap! Most of them will realize snow sucks and they’ll be heading right back to Florida!
No thanks. The idea of no power and broken water pipes is not something anyone needs. Didn't like being stuck inside for covid? Imagine being trapped inside waiting for someone to dig you out.
Perhaps the National Weather Service hasn't caught up yet, or maybe they're not ready to forecast this snowstorm, but as of this morning, Dec. 30. and through Jan. 13, there is nothing significant happening in N.W. Vermont. other than a little rain and less than one inch of snow about the middle of the first week of January. So I guess we'll see what, if anything changes.

@@shyecjj Which is why I moved to the north. I don't mind the cold but I've grown tired of the snow. But that southern heat can be suffocating, I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way about snow when I lived there. After moving North, I enjoyed it for about 5 years. Now it's just a hassle. Unlike in the South, the snow has to be over 5 or 6 inches sometimes more, before the schools even consider closing. If you work, your job still expects you to show up. Heavy snow is not an excuse to miss work. Did I mention power outages during the coldest time of the year? Snow can be very disruptive and a real pain in the a^^.
I live in Hampton, VA. I'd love to see some snow. I won't be driving in it, but I'll watch it if it comes. I've lived through nearly this pattern back in the 1970's when we had an East Coast blizzard then. You might want to look back at those models. I remember the heater never cutting off the entire night and the the temps so cold we left faucets running instead of dripping.
I know this weather sounds fun for some people but remember those people like my self that have go out in this type of weather because we are in the gas business or power company employees or etc😬

Yep, thunder snow in Atlanta. Also very like Snow Jam 82.
I hate it now and been loving these mild winters.
im from pittsburgh and we had one lake effect snow band hit us all day, it was crazy how heavy it falls
The White Out
The mild winters are nice, beyond gorgeous right now, but the lakes don't freeze.
I’m in Elma and lake effect is crazy .
Facts lived in Batavia for a few years and family still does… snow there is in another level and it’s normal

My dad did too! We had a blast. He dug out our driveway that was very long by himself. We had so much fun sledding.

Thats beautiful, thanks for sharing. Those were rhe good old days for sure
I hear you 😊
I was stationed at Ft Lee a long time ago in food service ...then next station was in Germany ...Germany was freezing hahahaha when we had to go do field maneuvers in big tents in 3 ft of snow for two weeks

I pray for no snow or ice for January 10 to the 20th I live in NC and my daughter lives in Panama City , she has a giant mass on her kidney and she only has one kidney so if you pray 🙏 I will appreciate it . I am traveling to Florida on those dates . I need a safe passage.
🙏🙏🙏 from NY
Amen. 🙏🏼

BREAD AND MILK ALERT
The electrical grid will likely be strained from the increased usage to heat homes in the south and that can cause power outages. If you lose power and have no way to heat your home canned food will freeze and burst. Dry goods that won't freeze and burst is better as long as you have an alternate source method to cook those dry goods without electricity.

I remember the 78 Blizzard, we were cold, no power for days. The thunder snow was tremendous.
Thunder snow? Please enlighten me I’m seriously curious of this.

You're right about southern storms, and I've also noticed that Texas had been getting snow before us , or even if we don't get any in N.C.
Yeah that is the classic setup for the Carolinas. Reminds me of the 1980s style storms that would close schools for days when I was a teenager.
Yep....
Im 7 miles west of shelby , hope we get at least some snow
It ain’t gonna happen
All forecasts and weather models are calling for slightly below normal temperatures at best and exceptionally dry weather in January. No snow expected for the east, let alone a blizzard.

You must be very young, because I have absolutely seen huge, INSANE Mid-Atlantic snow (Washington, DC; Charlottesville, VA; West Virginia, etc.) in 1978, 1993, 2010…and polar vortices that have killed people in that region.
The blizzard of 93, that was an epic one. I was stuck in my home for four days, no power, phone, nothing. I measured 30” of snow in my driveway.

2’ of snow in Virginia is NOT historic. I’ve live my whole life in Va and I remember multiple snows of 3’. The most was 40” in 1983. 2’ of snow in the northwest part of Va was common when I was a kid in the 1970’s. Winters were much colder then than they are now and it snowed A LOT more back then.

your Temps are way off for next week in the northeast...50-60 from Monday to Wednesday..unusually WARM...and then only going into the 40's...also ocean Temps are 5 degrees above normal, so any storms coming up the coast will pull in warmer air off ocean and bring rain...this has been the new normal for 9 years now in the northeast
He said next week was warm and the cold was the week after. I live in ny and the weather forecast I see says the same with snow on Monday.

So much for the La Nina with a warmer and drier South, looks like January and February could be brutal here.

So far up here in North Eastern Maine, it has been a mild winter. Yesterday was 40⁰ today it was almost 50⁰.
We do not consider it cold until the night time temps go below 0⁰
As of right now, at 10:30 pm.
