Thank you for another very informative and interesting upload! At 5:17 the shot of the SMS Friedrich der Grosse gives me the impression that with the echeloned starboard and port gun turrets could actually both be used at the same time for a full broadside (i.e., all 10 guns could be used in a broadside to either port or starboard). It appears that there is no super structure that would block the echeloned guns in the turret on the port side from turning to fire to the starboard side, and vice-versa. Am I correct in this, or was there a reason that the "off-side" echeloned turret could not be turned to fire to the opposite side of the ship? Thanks in advance for your answer.
That's an excellent question, and thanks very much for the kind comments :) Yes, the Kaiser class could employ all ten of their guns on each broadside. The blast would do a certain amount of damage to unarmoured parts of the ship in the vicinity, but this would be largely cosmetic in nature and wouldn't impair the ship's fighting ability.
@@andrewchoong2895 Thank you for your answer! I did not consider the blast damage that would occur from the opposite side guns firing across the ship! You reminded me of what I read years ago about how on the Yamato exposed crew members on deck might be knocked unconscious by the firing of the main guns. It really helps one to appreciate the extreme power of the main guns on a battle ship. Thanks, again!
@@andrewchoong2895 its an expression meaning big but can also be use to denote 12 dozens, like explained by Tolkien in the second chapter of Lord Of The Rings, the numbers invited by Bilbo at his private birthday dinner was a grosse, 144 matching both his age and Frodo together. Alright i am explaining too much i will just shut up now 😀
Looking forward to part 2 for sure.
Thanks very much! Still trying to find a workaround to my 'flipped' video, though 🤣
Great to see you back to posting videos, hope your work project went well, and wow, thanks for the shoutout!
My pleasure, and the shoutout was long overdue!! I see you've been busy, which is great as I'm looking forward to catching up on watching :)
