- Dust Detection feature on Leica M10, P, R, M and M240 is brilliant. A new discovery for me. This feature makes SENSOR CLEANING so much easier. In this video I go through the process of cleaning the sensor on my M240-P, M10-R and M10 Monochrom.
Hope you find it useful.

My focus is photography street, nature, landscape, people and adventure travel. A few animals also sneak in from time to time. Property investment and business also get covered to complement the theme of having time and money to pursue your passions, like mine, in photography and adventure travel, 4WD, motorcycle and trekking/hiking, connecting with nature and culture.
I was testing a lens yesterday and shot it at F22 and spotted the dreaded spots. I had no idea the M bodies were capable of doing this, its absolutely brilliant!
Yeah, it's a great feature. Not available on all M's. Not on M11.
Great advice and instructions. I cleaned my sensor successfully on the first attempt
Excellent
Wow! This was exceptionally helpful. Thank you. The blower got most of the dust, but the Eyelead got the rest.
Glad it helped!
Wow, that spotty Sydney photo is stellar.
👍
Thank you for making this video Peter! Much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
Struggling with the same issue but with my old Leica X2. My Q2 had the same problem last year but quickly solved
Thanks
Thanks so much! Very helpful !
Glad it helped!
Good lecture😊. Doesn't affect me too much with my Voigtländer Bessa 4.😅
Good to hear
Point the camera downwards when you blow in order to let the dust come out (gravity), rather than float around inside the cavity, (Not my idea, I saw it in a Leica video on UA-cam.)
Good point.
Thanks for this video!Very educative.
Glad it was helpful!
I have discovered this feature on my M-E 240 quite early on. I agree it's very useful. But the tricky part is to take a homogenous picture. I was not too lucky with sky photos since the sun can make some part of the image brighter or darker even if the sun is in the back. Instead I had most success with a homogenously lit white paper wall. I use the electrostatic arctic butterfly pen to clean sensors.
Great suggestion. Yes I had to do a few attempts to get a homogeneous ski.
The first time I cleaned my M8 Sensor, I used "Aeroclipse" not knowing this is for photographers traveling with Airplane (it has no alcohol, and so you have to use more than one swap... i.e 5 or 6)! So I bought the "Eclipse" solution which does have alcohol in it and I only had to use twice and it did the trick. You really have to look at the instruction video to make sure you are doing this correctly. You can really do some harm if you don't use the correct size swap (sensor swap), method, and etc...
👍
I just thought I’d look and see what facility is on my M9. You can open the shutter for inspection but it doesn’t have the “dust detection” on the menu.
Thanks for commenting with the M9 info. That will be useful for future reference.
what do you think of using the half case on leica m8; I've got one..not sure...thoughts?
I like half cases. I use Luigi Cases for my M10-R and M10-M.
When you see that fonctionality you wonder why other company didn't included on their camera since it exists. The process is simple and effective.
Yes, I'm also surprised how long it took me to find the function on the Leica
Great advise, thanks but way too long
Thanks
You have to ask yourself first how dust get there? Answer is : via camera mount and rear lens element.Cleaning sensor and not cleaning rear lens element and bayonet mount first is migrating particles from one part to another (crosscontamination).
