Great video! The short term gigs can really get you in a crunch. I always try to put the emphasis on 1) making music, and 2) on the most difficult technical passages. What always comforts me is that our brain autocorrects tunes it hears. and I hope that that will happen with mine too, as long as I make lovely music.
I love how you hid the request to legato the like-button! No need for excuses!
I think that's a great way to look at things, Christiane. As you say,. if the overall experience is musical then any minor flaws tend not to stand out (and won't usually be remebered for long even if they ARE noticed)
Just happened to me on jazz camp. My mentor had an emergency and I had to sub him the next day. Bunch of new scores to digest! In retrospect I should focus more on basics and left the phrasing and ornaments for later.
Hope it went ok. Sounds like you've got some valuable learning out of the experience in any case.
@@PlayInTheZone It was a hard lesson. I should save this tips under "surviving the gig" category, for when I have to deal with a situation on the spot, without the time to prepare.
Great video and one I needed to hear! Thank you
Glad it was helpful, Ben!
What size bass should one use if your focus is on both orchestra & solo repertoire?
I'm flattered that you think I might be able to give some valuable advice on that topic! However, it's something I know nothing about so I'm really not in a position to advise...
