Good looking bait and I appreciate the time you took to make this, but I have to be honest, you don't have to go through all that trouble with toothpicks and fancy cutting methods for shad. Using a whole sardine is a bit of a waste in my opinion as well. I cut mine into two or three pieces, sometimes even four pieces, use a simple shad trace and if the shad are on the bite, I can guarantee I'll catch just as much shad as the person next to me with their fancy presentation

Up to how long can u keep a box of sardines frozen(meaning at what point would you recommend that it doesn't be used)? Also how do you know that what you're buying is fresh?

A fairly long time - you can see when the start to discolor and / or get freezer burn - then they not good anymore. Up to 2 to 3 months
