I started playing STO again after many years because of this series. I started up a new toon and finally got past your videos so I wouldn't spoil them all for myself. Love the series!
Too bad Shack doesn't have cross faction play unlocked yet; this mission is a great in-story reason to pick up a B'Rel on a FED character :) Also, I recommend playing the "Spectres" storyline from the "available missions" tab; not one of the core stories currently, but it has some *classic* STO missions
Great to see more of this Shack. I'd suggest you put all power into weapons for the big enemies in space. Well, ships that aren't the Doomsday Machine. Subpower to shields just improves shield regeneration and a minor increase to shield resistance.
K'Valk went down just like Commodore Decker did in the Original Series Episode did, running a shuttlecraft down its throat and revealing the weakeness of the 'Doomsday Machine' to the heroes :)
A couple quick points: 1) The Hargh'peng torpedo is not affected by bridge office abilities like Torpedo High Yield. It has its own built-in buffs. 2) There's a ground combat damage mechanic that can be helpful. It's called expose/exploit. You can find videos on it. But basically, some weapons (and a few other things) can put an enemy or group of enemies in an exposed condition. If that enemy is hit by an exploit attack, while the expose is in effect, then that enemy takes far more damage. If it is enough to kill the enemy then the enemy disintegrates. The expose and exploits attacks are usually part of a weapon's secondary fire mode. For example, a full auto rifle has an expose attack. And since it's AoE, it can expose a group of targets. An example occurs in this video at 30:33. You sprayed a single enemy with a full auto rifle, and that enemy became exposed. You can see that - the large circling icon that appears on the enemy's torso is the exposed indicator. If you had caught a group of enemies in that attack then it would have exposed them all. A followup attack with an exploit weapon would have probably finished that enemy. A weapon's information window will tell you whether the second attack mode is expose or exploit. It's a good idea to carry one of each, and make them weapons with AoE secondary attacks. For instance, a full auto rifle to expose a group of enemies, and a wide-beam rifle to exploit them. This also applies your bridge officers. Your BOFFs do use their secondary fire modes. But they are not smart enough to deliberately hit exposed targets with exploit attacks. However, you can give them expose weapons and take the exploit shots yourself. There's a keyboard command to target the nearest exposed enemy. It's set as the G key by default. So let your BOFFs spray them with full auto rifles, then you hit them with a wide-beam rifle.
Really been enjoying this, I'll admit it's been a bit since I've watched much from you since I'm mainly a Star Trek fan. Really nice to see more trek on your channel again, hopefully this is just the beginning!
One thing about this mission. I'm not sure if it's by design or a game bug, but all the traits my characters had where reset (basically lost) the moment they took command of the Klingon vessel. You may wish to check on your character's traits after getting the Klingon ship and correct the problem if it happens to you.
It's a bug for sure on console. I had it happen during this and when I took command of the obelisk carrier.. ik theres other ship missions and I'm pretty sure it happened there too
Been that way for a long time, it happens any time you're forced to change to a premade ship for a mission (with the exception of your own shuttlecraft). They've known about it for years but like most other bugs in the game, they merely pay lip service to it with no fix in the foreseeable future.
I want the mission that comes after this to return, where you go back in time to save Kirk's enterprise from B'Vat...and you meet his younger, TOS self.
@@Privatepain1234 I just finished grinding the loadout for my EPG science vessel and took her on a spin. She's a powerhouse but I blew up a lot as well. It's quite tricky to fly to be real honest.
Hey Shack, the Covariant shield is the best of the options at lower levels. Honestly, you should replay this mission once you reach lieutenant commander to get the Mk. 4 version of whichever shield you picked.
@@eclipseslayer98 yup, some missions reward sets so you end up having to repeat them several times. Veterans often cite "boldly (or boredly) they rode" which is a long mission rewarding a whole mess of dominion themed stuff. To get a full set of stuff for that you had to play it 11+ times.
“Scylla and Charybdis”(Bajoran space defense set) & “The Temporal Front”(Na'kuhl ground) tend to be rerun several times too tho not nearly as many as "Boldly they Rode"(unless you want 2 piece Na'kuhl ground for your minions and 3 piece for yourself, the gun is a bit meh so not worth equipping the minions, while still working up then it comes in around 11)
Had the same happen to me too last week. Crazy that after all this time this game has been out there are still glitched out maps in the standard missions.
same, did it on a temporal recruit, tho I will have to recreate them(I forgot to get the 23c shuttle, among other things) I just pretended like there were cloaked ships parked there(think the "HMS Bounty" in Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home)
Just FYI: there is an option somewhere where you can deactivate these fly by text thingies that tell you that some other player won a Starship in a Lootbox. ...i think in the chat options maybe? (didn't play this in years).
Not sure If anyone has told you but the audio volume on your mic and in game volume is super low. Had to put my TV volume on 55 to hear anything on you Repub at War episode. Raise it a bit and your golden cap. Also, dang your intros made me want to start play STO again.
That Klingon battle hymn is unironically catchy
Careful with those logs Captain, too many hiccups like that and you'll end up commanding a California class ^^
Captain Shack "I got distracted by loot".
It is good to know that I'm not the only Starfleet Captain to suffer from this attribute.
shoot first, shoot some more, loot the corpses
I somehow went to the Klingon Academy (or at least the Kirk and Sisko one)

@@Privatepain1234 I remember how creepy that was the first time I played that mission.
That is a good episode, but my favorite mission is still "Quark's Lucky Seven"

hey shack keep these type of videos going enjoying every minute.
YES! A longer video! I'm here for the USS Extra Parts!

idk if its because it got reanimated, but hearing the Klingons Death song, it kinda hurts more then it should XD
Yeah it is interesting how the Klingons that scream strong vs weak are always the ones to throw their men at things while they run away.
Absolutely loving this series.

Good bit of nostalgia there
the torpedoes are awesome and you can build the sheilds
The torps you get off that mission are the best ones imo...
Alternate Title: Captain Shack vs Space Conolli
Looks more like a cream horn... heh
I played this mission a few days ago, I had the same issue with buildings not showing. Seems like a bug thats been around for a while.
I concur, I thought I was the only one with the invisible buildings.

Woohoo 🥳! Just got to say I can’t get enough.
Does anyone else think that the Klingon doomsday machine looks like a cornucopia? Like if someone mashed the Death-star and a cornucopia together? 😂
Btw, you’re the reason I started playing STO! I’m now a Lt. Commander of a constitution class refit
It looks like one of those Bugles chips
This series has me replaying STO again.
Later in game you can get an ability to send boarding craft to sabotage enemy ships
shack, if you watch the remastered version of TOS. The doomsday device is not destroyed. it looks like it turned off like a light switch.
And they had to ram a connie down its throat to do it.
It was destroyed. The hull is pure neutronium so even destroyed it remains unscratched.
ah yes declassified totaly not lost to the couch only to be found once more.
Don’t you just love getting them back for boarding your ship in the first mission
The exact same thing happened to me after the Doomsday Machine exploded.
OMG LOL, that building rendering issue has been around for a very long time. still not fixed i see
you should do the klingon campaign after this
time to prevent doomsday once again

Why did I get chill bumps for the klingon
Dawww, Kruge would be proud of K'valk for trying to stop such dishonorable combat.

Looks like a modified "planet eater" from the OS.
I think that is the idea
It IS a "planet eater" (just a nickname as where the things came from is long lost history).
"Planet killer"
Why did you cutt out the other lieutenant cutt scene
I love star trek online
the t6 miranda moves better. also, the fleet t6 miranda has soyuz parts unlocked.
yeesh i don't think I've ever been this early on anything
Oh! Shiny
shack, you stole the federation phaser after you killed a mere, pitiful red shirt.
Red shirts are command in STO, not security. lol
doesn't mean they were unarmed, we tend to go around shooting so much even Kirk and Sisko might question it
