Well the reason black ice is so popular, is because it looks pretty good, but also because the other weapon skins are mid tier/ass at best. (Except for the old seasonal skins) they need to have better weapon skins. It also iconic because it was the first season.
Frankly, I think there are WAY to many just filler skins that are just atrocious. Even the legendary skins are just awful and dont really "pop" like youd think a legendary should be. So many of the skins in legendary tier should be greens or blue. I think the skins in the game in general are just not very good outside of a handful.
there are still good skins out there, but unfortunately few and far between. Millesime is a really nice revolver skin, oil spill looks cool IMO, although the lighting could definitely be better, and there's a handful more

I've traded most of my black ice skins for esport weapon skins. Before the marketplace I hated how i was only using Black Ice skins on all my weapons because it was the only cool skin Ubisoft had to offer through packs.
I like Black ice skins, but there are to many in the game now I think what makes it less special. would also been good if it wasnt on the marketplace so you just could get it from the packs. other skins to compete with it exist but there are just not enough of them

hot take but i hate the idea. firstly recolor is a horrible direction to go, it is lack of creativity and feels super cheap. Also a lot of recolor people rendered just do not look good in a way that makes sense. Red/pink blackice are the most common i've seen and the color combo doesn't look good.
I love skins that make the weapon look like a piece of art, a heirloom or just a decorative gun that in the end still looks like a real gun. For that reason, Black Ice and many other skins make the gun look like a toy.
Thermal antipodes is probably the closest you could get to black ice cuz its the same thing but its got different colours, or we can make it like mobile games where they make certain characters craftable, so like craftable skins
It is funny because every time I get an Alpha pack and I open it and get an epic rarity, I immediately ask “Black Ice??” And then I end up getting something ugly or pointless for an operator I won’t use lol. So it is worth saying that the Alpha pack doesn’t have much to offer except for Black Ice.
Spiciest opinion: Black Ice is overrated period. Edit: something I really liked about weapon skins like the ones from the board game for Rainbow are camoflages that change the weapon rather than give it colors, a similar concept that call of duty made since 2016 pretty much. Wow look at this purple blueprint that turns your M14 Ebr into a modern M39 EMR is like having a new weapon!
Just going on marketplace and buying a clean universal skin can cost you a few bucks and you can have a sick combo. I got a red and blue glowing charm, black and red skin, and a blue and red attachment skin and instead of spending hundreds on collecting black ice I get a unique combo for less than 10 bucks
My fav Universal skins are the Sentinel spirit, Guiding defender, Piranha, Chupinazo and bone chills. The new universal skin is nice to be fair, I've sold most of my old rare skins and black ice because they're no longer rare and you get bored of them. Really wish they'd add better horror/spooky weapon skins, I've kept all the outbreak ones even though they're going dirt cheap :/
I do admit that, while Black Ice has gone down in value a lot, I still plan to collect all of them at some point. All we need now is to get Chanka’s DP-28, Deimos’ Vendetta, Skopós’ PCX, Thorn’s UZK, and Sens’ POF in Black Ice at some point in the future.

Idk what it’s like in other lobbies but black ice is like a default skin at this point. Whenever I load into a game it’s not uncommon for 3 or 4 players on my team to have black ice on both their primaries and secondaries.
I think there's plenty of skins that rival black ice, they just aren't as iconic and memorable. The closest I can think of is oil spill, a nice and simple one. You're definetly right about the overhype though

I think black ice is cool, but I'm not afraid to run different skins over it. I try to get a skin that matches the color of the icon of the op, a skin that represents where the op is from, or a skin that fits the theme of the op. Only when i don't have a skin that fits that criteria for an op, will i use a random skin that looks good like black ice.
I have to say every time I watch your videos you always bring awesome ideas. Me personally, my favorite underrated skin in the game is the Oil Colored skin for pistols. I wish they would make it for the every other guns cause it looks awesome.
I agree so much. Personaly I never cared for Black Ice because it doesn't have a good Op skin or Attachment skin to match. But it has caused me to make my own skins for Siege, head gear to charm, so there is something new to hunt.
You are blaming the wrong party, the problem isn't ubisoft riding the success of black ice, it's the community putting it on a pedestal, overhyping it and making people sought after it just because other people sought after it, not because they actually like the skin that much. These people continue to hype the skin, making a vicious cycle that ignores every other skin.
I personally like gold and plat did not bought the plat and prob won't because you can't even use it on deimos's revolver and it seems there are other weapons with same issue, black ice looks cool on tubarao and ela the rest idc, u guys agree?

Im so glad someone finally said it. To me the black ice lost its charm when the marketplace became a thing sure i also got the black ices i wanted but it wasnt the same. The joy of owning that skin for your favourite operator was gone.

I don't really care for black ice skins but I do agree with the heavy push on it also that's probably why I dislike it now honestly but the more eritating thing about it is that there's either basic commons, duplicates, Black ice , or duplicate black ice they're putting to much effort in that one skin and not putting that effort elsewhere in the other skins and new skins
I feel like the idea of different coloured “black” ices isn’t too bad. They could implement a feature where if you get all of the ices for a gun you would get a rainbow ice or sm like that.
I definitely think that they should make a master system with the new badge system they’re coming out with. Like with every level or upgrade to the badge they should come out with a new skin, going from blue, to purple, to legendary, with the legendary having some sort of movement effect.
Funny side is, Black Ice is in every game rn. Fortnite has it (look for Shattered Ice), Once Human has it (Icy Rain). Probably other games that I didn't play enough to see has it too. As in looks, it is really good but like you said, packs in the game just a way to get them, nothing else makes people happy (I like when I get Chibi charms but thats all.) They need to make better all-weapon skin asap.
I wish black ice never got added to alpha packs even though the hype of getting them is fun. It killed the value. It hurts especially the og players who got the skins back then. There are actually a lot of legendary skins and charms that were alpha pack exclusive back then a good amount of players were going for that are really cool like conflagration for ar-15 or banana charm. But now with the oversaturation of garbage skins and black ice, these great skins are not really discovered by players. Another thing is that r6 doesnt really have "skin enthusiasts " there isnt an Ohnepixel or someone like that in R6 that can showcase skins. I don't know what ubisoft can do about this because at the end of the day black ice drives the money
I think many people just consider many skins that are simply classed in a lower tier to be without other thinking besides tier "bad", I believe many skins to be good that are simply just placed in a lower tier which will naturally make them less attractive to the common player as the common player would be looking for the rarest, coolest etc. types of guns when they could simply adjust their view of skins entirely. To think of it from a different perspective although many people have these commonly found skins within alpha packs, they would not typically use them and instead use rarer "tiered" skins, taking this into account would inherently make the common, uncommon, etc. skins "rare" as the player using these skins would be viewed as rare or different for simply using a skin that is not commonly used, not because the skin is hard to get but simply because the skin is so easy to get that no one uses it entirely. But other wise I do agree with everything you have stated within this video that black ice has been over popularized and what not.
I'm still surprised to this day that they have not added a weapon mastery system. It would encourage people to actually use operators that they don't like and step out of their comfort zone to complete the challenges! We've been over tactical realism for about 5 years now I really wish they would just throw the paintbrush at the screen and make some awesome camos like dark matter, magma, interstellar etc etc I want the camos to get a little crazy but I want them to be locked behind challenges whether it be tournaments or otherwise!
Use operators they don't like? But that would mean using non-meta and "bad operators" and if there's one thing that's well known about the siege community, they are extremely callous of your operator choice. I've been called slurs and TKed for not using only the meta operators, and using ones that are fun. This community HATES fun, and stepping out of it's comfort zone. They're way too concerned with treating the game like the continued existence of humanity is on the line

Even tho alpha packs were part of the loot box craze the fact that you could always get them from playing or in game money is why I like it, now that the look box craze is over and everything is just in the store I prefer loot boxes, atleast I have a chance to get something cool instead of $20
My biggest problem woth the skin system is whenever ubisoft makes a new gun, for example Deimos' revolver and Skopos' AR, they dont make existing universal skins able to be applied to it, so you are either forced to use something in the battle pass they come with, waiting for at minimum another season for a skin you like to be put on it to be released, or have no skin. I am legit running no skin on Skopos AR not by choice but because i have no skins that can be put on it, not even the diamond skin, the basic color skins, or anything else that has been released in the past 9 YEARS. This has been a problem for so long and i have no idea how they dont realize that it is doing this already and also dont realize that it shouldnt even go out like this to begin with.
Completely agree with this, I’ve been playing this game for only 4 seasons and I already hate black ice. The other day my friend was showing me his black ices and guess what, HE BOUGHT ALL OF THEM. Also, I got aruni DMR black ice and I sold it as soon as I got the chance. I completely agree with this and the skins have gotten dry.

Its popular because its obtainable, I feel like a lot of the really good skins in siege (most of them in fact) are not available through normal means like bundles or the store, SOME are available on the marketplace but are quite expensive, more than an average player is willing to spend, some of the esports weapon skins are really good as well but are also a little costly imo.
Well I mean they've already tried with skins like Thermal Antipodes but nobody wanted to run it because it was seen as the poor man's black ice by the community despite looking pretty good.
They should make Glacier a super rare drop, as rare as maybe Dragon Lore on cs, so the prices of Glacier stay high for all the people that might be butthurt spending thousands on a pixelated game
I'm hoping Ubi's Art team make a really nice skin for Siege's 10 year anniversary and put it in Ubi Connect for a limited time or play a special year 10 event, which by completing it gives you the skin similar to how Activision did the get high event in COD
They should make all universal skins go on ALL weapons and not only for the seasons before. It baffles me how it is not possible to equip a old seasonal skin to a new gun that came out Deimos has literally 0 skins. and they could change the diamond skin that looks like aluminum to a real diamond skin making it worth grinding the renown for it.

I totally agree with you on this. Also: When Alpha Packs are full of garbage seasonal skins, why not remove the garbage? That would substantially improve the experience. Make the seasonal weapon skins universal and remove the seasonal headgears and uniforms.
Something I know I'm in a mild minority for is that I actually prefer Oil Spill as a skin over Black Ice. I still do enjoy Black Ice, but it's always been fairly disappointing that Oil Spill is limited to a small subset of pistols
I find it absolutely hilarious how the "SEASONAL" cosmetics are shoved into alpha packs despite not being of the current season. Even with all the cosmetics available, ubisoft still somehow manages to be the only studio that can give out duplicates in amounts that should be considered a crime
I've never really been a big fan of the Black Ice skin, I personally always run a weapon skin that changes the shape of the gun if at all possible, those skins are always way more interesting to me.
I'm a fashonista and I love having my OPs looking extra good with each their own theme, so I in fact have rarely said such a thing as "I wish this was Black Ice", if anything I've said more like "I wish this Black Ice I just got was on another weapon.". But I'm aware I'm probably in the minority about this.
Black ice should get the same treatment as the Diamond skin, a hell of a grind but making it universal. If they do that then they can focus on making any other skins

I’ve been playing siege for a year now, but I personally think black ice is ok at best. The only reason I get alpha packs is for black ice, but that’s because I still think it’s a good skin. I get bravo packs for the operator cosmetics in them. I also swore to myself that I’d never buy a black ice on the marketplace. I like the challenge of getting black ice and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it through the packs.
So to show you the scale of how much the r6 community loves black ice just look at marketplace. If it's not black ice, the history of a gub skin generally stays the same at the baseline 120 credit, no matter the rarity. I think ubisoft should ask some of the community members to make some skins ( just like in csgo), fix the rarity system so that the most ass skins aren't legendary, and add inspects for everyone to see how cool their gun is. Personally, I'd like to see a custom knife
I do like them but a good thing would be like CSGO floats and different variety’s maybe, but I also think some black ices don’t look as good like jackals gun is basically white without the dark ice
Memento for the MP5k is a great step in the right direction in my opinion. It's a great skin that you had to grind for but also pay for since it was physically impossible to play enough M.U.T.E Protocol games to get Memento by just grinding because it was a short event. Still a really cool looking skin
What I think would be a cool idea is to have it so that you only get the operator portrait and victory celebration when you have the full set, and also only have to set available in alpha packs so there is more incentive to get them without hoping for black ice, I really like some of these sets and giving them a victory celebrations and operator portrait would give them so much more life instead of only having victory celebrations for the elite skins

ngl I held skin lines like royal and engraved in similar regards to black ice that being great epic skins to have on guns, but compared to the other two black ice is more universal than the other skins, being that majority of guns have gotten a black ice.
Agree that half of the Bravo Pack Collection is total garbage. They need to completely do away with all of the green loot/seasonal skins in that collection given that they are paid packs. They just aren’t worth it when you get your twelfth uncommon in a row.
The Big Problem is that there are No good skins in General anymore to Pull or buy with renown. Either weapon skins or Operator skins. Because of the Elite skins they only make good skins for Elite. Every other skin is Just a terrible recolor that Looks worse Then the original.

I personally like gold and plat did not bought the plat and prob won't because you can't even use it on deimos's revolver and it seems there are other weapons with same issue, black ice looks cool on tubarao and ela the rest idc, u guys agree?
There are so many good skins that are only available on one weapon, if they just put a little effort in making those skins universal it would be so much better

Im so glad someone finally said it. To me the black ice lost its charm when the marketplace became a thing sure i also got the black ices i wanted but it wasnt the same. The joy of owning that skin for your favourite operator was gone.

I don't really care for black ice skins but I do agree with the heavy push on it also that's probably why I dislike it now honestly but the more eritating thing about it is that there's either basic commons, duplicates, Black ice , or duplicate black ice they're putting to much effort in that one skin and not putting that effort elsewhere in the other skins and new skins
I feel like the idea of different coloured “black” ices isn’t too bad. They could implement a feature where if you get all of the ices for a gun you would get a rainbow ice or sm like that.
I definitely think that they should make a master system with the new badge system they’re coming out with. Like with every level or upgrade to the badge they should come out with a new skin, going from blue, to purple, to legendary, with the legendary having some sort of movement effect.

Funny side is, Black Ice is in every game rn. Fortnite has it (look for Shattered Ice), Once Human has it (Icy Rain). Probably other games that I didn't play enough to see has it too. As in looks, it is really good but like you said, packs in the game just a way to get them, nothing else makes people happy (I like when I get Chibi charms but thats all.) They need to make better all-weapon skin asap.
I wish black ice never got added to alpha packs even though the hype of getting them is fun. It killed the value. It hurts especially the og players who got the skins back then. There are actually a lot of legendary skins and charms that were alpha pack exclusive back then a good amount of players were going for that are really cool like conflagration for ar-15 or banana charm. But now with the oversaturation of garbage skins and black ice, these great skins are not really discovered by players. Another thing is that r6 doesnt really have "skin enthusiasts " there isnt an Ohnepixel or someone like that in R6 that can showcase skins. I don't know what ubisoft can do about this because at the end of the day black ice drives the money

I think many people just consider many skins that are simply classed in a lower tier to be without other thinking besides tier "bad", I believe many skins to be good that are simply just placed in a lower tier which will naturally make them less attractive to the common player as the common player would be looking for the rarest, coolest etc. types of guns when they could simply adjust their view of skins entirely. To think of it from a different perspective although many people have these commonly found skins within alpha packs, they would not typically use them and instead use rarer "tiered" skins, taking this into account would inherently make the common, uncommon, etc. skins "rare" as the player using these skins would be viewed as rare or different for simply using a skin that is not commonly used, not because the skin is hard to get but simply because the skin is so easy to get that no one uses it entirely. But other wise I do agree with everything you have stated within this video that black ice has been over popularized and what not.

It would encourage people to actually use operators that they don't like and step out of their comfort zone to complete the challenges!
We've been over tactical realism for about 5 years now I really wish they would just throw the paintbrush at the screen and make some awesome camos like dark matter, magma, interstellar etc etc I want the camos to get a little crazy but I want them to be locked behind challenges whether it be tournaments or otherwise!
Use operators they don't like? But that would mean using non-meta and "bad operators" and if there's one thing that's well known about the siege community, they are extremely callous of your operator choice. I've been called slurs and TKed for not using only the meta operators, and using ones that are fun.
This community HATES fun, and stepping out of it's comfort zone.

i like black ice skins but the newer black ice skins kinda looking washed, they dont have this little 3d texture on it like the old school ones
They could release a collection of 3d skins in the packs or bring the "hemorrhage" (from outbreak) skin to all weapons and put it in the packs
My biggest problem woth the skin system is whenever ubisoft makes a new gun, for example Deimos' revolver and Skopos' AR, they dont make existing universal skins able to be applied to it, so you are either forced to use something in the battle pass they come with, waiting for at minimum another season for a skin you like to be put on it to be released, or have no skin. I am legit running no skin on Skopos AR not by choice but because i have no skins that can be put on it, not even the diamond skin, the basic color skins, or anything else that has been released in the past 9 YEARS. This has been a problem for so long and i have no idea how they dont realize that it is doing this already and also dont realize that it shouldnt even go out like this to begin with.

Completely agree with this, I’ve been playing this game for only 4 seasons and I already hate black ice. The other day my friend was showing me his black ices and guess what, HE BOUGHT ALL OF THEM. Also, I got aruni DMR black ice and I sold it as soon as I got the chance. I completely agree with this and the skins have gotten dry.

Its popular because its obtainable, I feel like a lot of the really good skins in siege (most of them in fact) are not available through normal means like bundles or the store, SOME are available on the marketplace but are quite expensive, more than an average player is willing to spend, some of the esports weapon skins are really good as well but are also a little costly imo.

They should make Glacier a super rare drop, as rare as maybe Dragon Lore on cs, so the prices of Glacier stay high for all the people that might be butthurt spending thousands on a pixelated game
I'm hoping Ubi's Art team make a really nice skin for Siege's 10 year anniversary and put it in Ubi Connect for a limited time or play a special year 10 event, which by completing it gives you the skin similar to how Activision did the get high event in COD

They should make all universal skins go on ALL weapons and not only for the seasons before. It baffles me how it is not possible to equip a old seasonal skin to a new gun that came out Deimos has literally 0 skins. and they could change the diamond skin that looks like aluminum to a real diamond skin making it worth grinding the renown for it.

I don’t think the reason black ice is so popular is because it’s so good there are many other skins that in my opinion at least rival it but black ice is just too iconic the only way to change that would be with a huge marketing campaign about a new skin that’s „better than black ice“ but that can also easily be a huge flop

I totally agree with you on this. Also: When Alpha Packs are full of garbage seasonal skins, why not remove the garbage? That would substantially improve the experience. Make the seasonal weapon skins universal and remove the seasonal headgears and uniforms.

Something I know I'm in a mild minority for is that I actually prefer Oil Spill as a skin over Black Ice. I still do enjoy Black Ice, but it's always been fairly disappointing that Oil Spill is limited to a small subset of pistols

I find it absolutely hilarious how the "SEASONAL" cosmetics are shoved into alpha packs despite not being of the current season. Even with all the cosmetics available, ubisoft still somehow manages to be the only studio that can give out duplicates in amounts that should be considered a crime

I've never really been a big fan of the Black Ice skin, I personally always run a weapon skin that changes the shape of the gun if at all possible, those skins are always way more interesting to me.
I'm a fashonista and I love having my OPs looking extra good with each their own theme, so I in fact have rarely said such a thing as "I wish this was Black Ice", if anything I've said more like "I wish this Black Ice I just got was on another weapon.". But I'm aware I'm probably in the minority about this.

I’ve been playing siege for a year now, but I personally think black ice is ok at best. The only reason I get alpha packs is for black ice, but that’s because I still think it’s a good skin. I get bravo packs for the operator cosmetics in them. I also swore to myself that I’d never buy a black ice on the marketplace. I like the challenge of getting black ice and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it through the packs.

So to show you the scale of how much the r6 community loves black ice just look at marketplace. If it's not black ice, the history of a gub skin generally stays the same at the baseline 120 credit, no matter the rarity. I think ubisoft should ask some of the community members to make some skins ( just like in csgo), fix the rarity system so that the most ass skins aren't legendary, and add inspects for everyone to see how cool their gun is. Personally, I'd like to see a custom knife

Memento for the MP5k is a great step in the right direction in my opinion. It's a great skin that you had to grind for but also pay for since it was physically impossible to play enough M.U.T.E Protocol games to get Memento by just grinding because it was a short event. Still a really cool looking skin
I think they should add an operator portrait and a victory celebrations for the legendary sets like Jager's race suit
What I think would be a cool idea is to have it so that you only get the operator portrait and victory celebration when you have the full set, and also only have to set available in alpha packs so there is more incentive to get them without hoping for black ice, I really like some of these sets and giving them a victory celebrations and operator portrait would give them so much more life instead of only having victory celebrations for the elite skins
I have always found it weird that THIS skin is what the community decided was the best one. It's not bad, but I literally don't use it on any of the weapons I have it on because it's just not that special
ngl I held skin lines like royal and engraved in similar regards to black ice that being great epic skins to have on guns, but compared to the other two black ice is more universal than the other skins, being that majority of guns have gotten a black ice.

Agree that half of the Bravo Pack Collection is total garbage. They need to completely do away with all of the green loot/seasonal skins in that collection given that they are paid packs. They just aren’t worth it when you get your twelfth uncommon in a row.
The Big Problem is that there are No good skins in General anymore to Pull or buy with renown. Either weapon skins or Operator skins. Because of the Elite skins they only make good skins for Elite. Every other skin is Just a terrible recolor that Looks worse Then the original.
