Most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard in my life, literally heavenly

It is wonderful to hear Ms Ritchie sing. Her voice evokes true Appalachia. The wide open spaces, the yearning, fall colors and settling the country. Remarkable.

This carries me back to my childhood and my dear mother singing my siblings and me to sleep.

Love Jean Ritchie's playing and singing - she's a good reason why I love folk music. :)

just realised 'wear my apron high' refers, not to it's not reaching down low, but to the higher waist as a result of pregnancy - it's in a british folk song too

It's a dulcimer. Lap harp we called em.

Oh trying to pretend you are some kind of authentic appalachian.
the dulcimer is a genuine instrument of appalachia but VERY rare indeed. Made famous by her and of course the pseudofolkist jacob niles

      You moron!
Loads of people play Appalachian dulcimers - they are NOT rare.
You call someone a 'pseudofolkist' - you're the pseudofolkist here, not them. You're utterly bloody clueless.

@@davidtaylor-bq3hy trying? Born and raised in WV. Mineral county. Your turn. Also my family have been in that region of WV since early 1700s so while I'm not Native, I'm pretty fucking Appalachian, honey.
