Since all 3 are connected with each other theyll all get notified at the same time that a manual lange change is required. So even if the first one screws up and doesnt change the others still can. Obviously if no one changes they all brake and stop.

So what if the driver dozes off. ( Bored ) Alarms go off, he awakes, 2 seconds, alerted to Alarm, 2 seconds more, reaction 1 second, maneuver to keep it clean 3 seconds. He clears with 2 seconds on the clock. What does the truck do? will it stop on a Major Highway, endangering the vehicles behind. Here in Ontario, Canada, the AV will not be allowed to work if snow is on the ground covering the lanes. What about Freezing rain, will the truck pick up on that and what happens then.

Stephen, these Mercedes trucks are equipped also with ABA system, this is a improved ABS/EBS system that works together the Distance sensor, if the truck requests the driver to take the control and lets suppose that he is bored, the vehicle itself breaks partly 50%, if there is no reaction from the driver before to 3 seconds the truck breaks 100% in order to prevent any collision....neverteless I am following you, if the truck stops, of course it can disturb the vehicles behind, so far if there is a vehicle on breakdown the vehicles behind must change the lane or stop too....the Mercedes HPC enables vehicles to operating under platoonin concept and there are some requirements before to establish conection between the trucks; in the future "we are close" all vehicles could be connected via V2V protocol , that means even the vehicles behind the platooning trucks will get same information regarding traffic or some other revelant information...hugs
