@@cohenvale6342well the speculation is that he was from Mozambique, but there’s no way to know for sure, the first ever recorded mention of Yasuke isn’t even by name (another thing we’ll never know about him) in the Jesuit Missionary reports of Alessandro Valignano in 1579 when he first arrived in Japan, and the next mention is nearly a year and a half later in 1581 in the Shinchu Koki “on the 23rd day of the 2nd month, a black Paige came from the Christian Countries, he appears to be about 26 or 27, roughly 7’ tall, with skin as black as an ox, and possessing the strength of 10 men,” the Maeda clan Archives expand on this meeting saying “the black man was taken into lord Nobunaga’s service. He was given a home, a short sword, and Vassalage,” after that he’s only spotted at 3 skirmishes over the next year or so Tenmokuzan, Honouji, and Yamazaki, after being “returned” to the Jesuits he disappears from history, I say returned because there’s no confirmation he was a slave in 1579 and likely wouldn’t have been treated as one in 1582. He may have started as a slave but based on the vague implications in Valignano’s reports, it’s possible he was already a freedman hired on as a type of mercenary body guard. Beyond that we really know next to nothing about him

    I mean, some people in Japan were talking about;
    1) how they even got the letter for Yasuke (弥助) wrong,
    2) on Yasuke's armor (which is weird to see Yasuke wearing outside of battle field, on many levels) there was symbol for Oda clan but upside down, an offense that can be more than enough for Oda Nobunaga to have Yasuke beheaded....
    3) there's matchlock gunners carrying banner with 関ヶ原鉄砲隊, which is a name of a group of modern historical re-enactment....

The problem with this game is that it advertises it as historical fact.
If it had been promoted on the premise that it was a completely fictional story, this wouldn't have been an issue.
Nobunaga freed him from slavery and hired him, but he was not given a surname. If he could fight, why did he not do anything when Nobunaga was killed?
The samurai who found him after the war thought that Yasuke had nothing to do with the battle between the samurai. Therefore, Yasuke was let go and his whereabouts are unknown.
The problems with this game are as follows:
"Martin Luther King Jr was merely a portable shrine held up by a powerful white man with a good heart. This is a historical fact."
"Edison was not a great inventor, but a simple businessman who collected ideas from his talented black subordinates and made them into a business."
"Haiti gained independence in 1804 thanks to the efforts of those with white blood, and black people alone could not have done such a thing."
Japanese people feel discriminated against because the creators of this game think it is okay to treat Japanese history in this way.
In fact, some people have fabricated proverbs that do not exist in Japan, such as the following, in relation to the drama "Shogun."
「There's a Japanese proverb that says for a Samurai tobe brave, he must have abit of Black blood. (William Spivey, Mar 8, 2024)」

A time when farmers and merchants carried swords, and there was no definition of samurai.
It would be unreasonable to define him as a samurai just by holding a sword, and in the first place there is no material that treats him as a samurai.
Regarding materials related to Yasuke, the only primary source is the Jesuit Japan Annual Report, which may have been written in later years, and the Ietada Diary, Nobunaga Ki, and Nobunaga Kouki are considered secondary sources.
And there is no information that Yasuke was a samurai.
Moreover, one year after he served Nobunaga, the Honnoji Incident occurred and he was returned to the missionaries, so he had no time to learn about culture and political strategy.

How to fix all of this.
For those of you who played Odyssea, who was your favorite character, and why was it Brasidas? Brasidas was your ride or die bro from the very beginning. He was likeable, supportive, loyal, a complete bada**.
They could have done the same with Yasuke. Historically, he was a bodyguard to Nobunaga and was very close to him. Boom, you have an ally who's close to the higher-ups of the time period and can give you tips and information. He can even assist you in several situations, saving you from ambushes or uneven fights. You get a likeable character who's put in a positive light and don't take away from the Japanese aspect of the game.
"But we get an insight into Japanese culture as an outsider"
Literally, every assassins creed character (except maybe 1) was a native to the setting the game was in. Why is that suddenly a selling point?

@@alexeystarkov7504 "Umm no? You're just dead wrong?"
Don't tell people they are dead wrong when you have no idea what you're talking about. Kosho is literally the equivalent of a page/squire. Kosho is the rank of a child who will become a Samurai when they reach adulthood. For a full grown adult to have the rank of Kosho is practically an insult, showing that they did not believe he deserve to be considered a full fledged warrior. He had to have a rank in order to serve in Nobunaga's court in any capacity so they gave him a rank that came with absolutely no real power or privilege within the court it's self.
Considering how xenophobic/racist Sengoku era Japanese were it is almost certain that Yasuke was little more than a gofer and like I said probably kept around strictly as an amusing oddity/curiosity.
