Forging a trench knife from gears. Forging a knife form gears is a challenge to say the least but its even more challenging using the gears for the handle as well. This trench knife was made entirely from differential and transmission gears. As far as i know nobody has ever made a knife from a gear which is really cool. This knife is pretty similar to the battlefield 1 trench knife except forged from gears.
If your interested in purchasing this custom trench knife it will be for sale at my Etsy Store. The link is below

I have a mine claim out in Hachita, NM and in one area of the deposit, it assayed out to almost 600 lbs iron/ton. You should forge a blade from virgin iron ore. I can send you all you need.

It's amazing. I can accept it as a gift. Thank you beforehand.
Me: I can't hear what he's saying, better turn it up.
Him: "Let's get the forge fired back up."
Forge: KHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me: Ok well fuck my ears then.
Got all the elements I like to see in an item. Re-use of an old item, good, strong material with a lot of craft evident in the finished product. Sort of thing I would love to pick up off an auction site or from a village fair.
Really awesome 😮 this idea to forge a knife from this part of gears. It looks great :) and the natual look is still visible.
This is one of the coolest knives I've seen
Even with the little shake in the guard it is a beautiful piece great job.
Looks awesome! I like how you incorporated the gear teeth into the knife as well. Just awesome.
Wow, you do wonders with these pipe wrench gears blades. Very nice! I have had trouble with gears falling apart when I try to forge them. I was trying to drift a square hole in a gear to use it for a guard. I was using gears out of the rear gear box from a old rider mower. Some gears forge great but, others just break the minute I hit it with a hammer. You have incredible heat control skills Sir. Bravo!
Best knife i have ever seen made. Wow
someone someone check out Alec Steele. Very young man at the top of his craft.
Kirk Foster wow. Thanks a lot for opening my eyes haha
You are a unbelievable craftsman. That is beautiful.
Love what you've done to finish this one. One of a kind!
Dude I love ur videos its cool how he can turn anything into a nife, sword, spear, machete
I absolutely LOVE the creativity of this piece. Very cool concept and execution, Jake.
Hey, at 14 min, you finished the handles, great job by the way. May I recommend that you repeat that process for the handles and form them to be 1911 grips. I bet they would be worth a pretty penny.
good idea
Excelent job Jake. Best regards from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
if a zombie apocalypse breakout , I'm definitely on Jake's team 👈🇺🇸🤘
That is one of the baddest knives I've ever seen! Awesome work!

Damn, it's a beautiful, dangerous work of art. ... AMAZING!
Dude, I seriously want that knife.
Really nice work man. I just started making blades about 6 months ago using the stock reduction method but I want to learn to forge eventually.
What do you mean by saying u made a gap.. Dude u are amazing there is no gap at all.. U actually made an Art from nothing.. u are amazing
Khaled Alyahya he said he made a gap he probably re-did it but yes its pretty awesome
That thing is freaking dope!
Nice design
Really creative, leaving some of the teeth at the top of the blade and then fabricating a handle and guard was genius.
You are out of your mind???....you are great!!!
These are always the best blades I have ever seen
This sure are Gears Of War!
Wow that was impressive and I watch a lot of these tubes well done.

There's probably not enough metal in a TV to make a knife.

Sem nenhuma dúvida vc é um artista, está será vendida, logo, logo.Parabéns.
You should try out for forged in fire
ok. i dont do forge but i reallu love your channel and make me smile. beautiful works. keep it up.
2:28 ah I see you are using the rare throw it on the ground technique!
Jeremy Essary much more subtle than the “jamb the point in the dirt” technique favored by hollywood
Dude,
Well done
That came out awesome.
Great work man
may as well not even have bothered to make the blade from a gear, lol.
Absolutely gorgeous ..... the gear made stunning blade with and handle
Fast-forward grinder = RIP headphone user
MrMikado282 lol so true
Please make more gear knifes! I like the look of them!
Can you do a build that you could sell for around 80 dollars if its not to much to ask im on a budget and would love to buy one of these I just can't afford it
Beautiful knife! Really creative. I’m not a fan of the blade serrations but a personal preference. The volume level changes were brutal but again, thanks for sharing your incredible skills.
hey man, i love watching you make the knife and it turned out really cool but, the bits where it's fast forwarded i find loud and unpleasant and i dip the volume manually then raise it when you start talking again, maybe dial the volume back on those parts? or put some music over it?

What a beautiful piece great job
What steel is this? I can not imagin that it is suitible for knifemaking. Gears are usually made from a non hardenable steel, which get carburized at the gear teeth before hardening. I can't imagine that this blade got really hard. I also wouldn't test hardness with a soft stroke of a file. Try to scrape glass with the tip. If it's able to do that it must have at least 58 HRC.
Helmuth Pape I mean it's a show knife fr why criticize it ?
Helmuth Pape around 13:28 those sparks looked chalked full of carbon to me . What do I know just saying.
If they are differential gears, they're likely made from high tensile steel like 4140. They'd need to take a lot of stress.
Beautiful knife.
why not make a ladder pattern?
Absolutely Awesome! Gives me a drive to get back at my forge and the anvil! Thanks for your video
Amazing from Portugal

OMFG!!!! GREAT WORK !!! I neeeed IT !!
that knife is so damn cool
Pure skill and talent beautiful knife
Now turn the knife back into a gear
That's one of my favorite knives iv seen made!! Thanks
Красивый нож👍👍👍
Very nice! You do have a great talent! Thanks for sharing!
Instead of cutting those teeth, you should fold it in half and apply some borax. And then fold it again and again and again. So that there should be no waste. Please try that on your next video and let see what happens.
t
That is a sexy knife!!!! The only thing I would have done different is you don't need the finger notch after the hand guard on the blade. That being said I would love to own it anyway!
You should of made a karambit out of the gear
Very nice my son calls you MR JAKE THE KING of recycling
those dislikes are probably just jealous blacksmiths
One of the nicest forging processes I’ve seen
شيء كبير يا عمرى شيء كبير

Rich Kandle hi thank you my friend
Can't get better than this 👍👍👍
Beautiful piece of work... I have some of the tools but not everything. Would love to be able to give something like this a try. Gorgeous work!!
Qué ARTE tan hermoso me gustaría aprender buen video
Wow....that handle and guard would look awesome on a pair of wing chun knifes....also looks good as it is...
Great video, but someone is trying to steal youwe content. Search, "Forging Knife from Gear" and the third video down is yours posted on someone else's account.
Zoinks jeez shaggy I seen that too
Amazing Job
God she's beautiful. Well done.
Outstanding knife! The Gearheads trench knife.
I guess you made the knife out of a "metal gear" tehe.
SCARCEDOOM clever

Oh my God man you got to stop flirting things I have laying around the house otherwise I'm going to get very upset that i dont have a forge
You are an artist man, very good job.
grinding everything off of it kinda defeats the purpose of proving that you can make a knife out of a gear, hell you might as well have just went and got a semi flat piece of steel
agreed, the reason you use odd materials is to create a pattern in the blade, the more interesting the source the more interesting the pattern will become, like fuse a clump of scissors together and forge that, you'll get a great pattern in the blade.....
