    Forging a trench knife from gears. Forging a knife form gears is a challenge to say the least but its even more challenging using the gears for the handle as well. This trench knife was made entirely from differential and transmission gears. As far as i know nobody has ever made a knife from a gear which is really cool. This knife is pretty similar to the battlefield 1 trench knife except forged from gears.
    If your interested in purchasing this custom trench knife it will be for sale at my Etsy Store. The link is below

      I have a mine claim out in Hachita, NM and in one area of the deposit, it assayed out to almost 600 lbs iron/ton. You should forge a blade from virgin iron ore. I can send you all you need.

    Forge: KHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Me: Ok well fuck my ears then.

    Got all the elements I like to see in an item. Re-use of an old item, good, strong material with a lot of craft evident in the finished product. Sort of thing I would love to pick up off an auction site or from a village fair.

    Wow, you do wonders with these pipe wrench gears blades. Very nice! I have had trouble with gears falling apart when I try to forge them. I was trying to drift a square hole in a gear to use it for a guard. I was using gears out of the rear gear box from a old rider mower. Some gears forge great but, others just break the minute I hit it with a hammer. You have incredible heat control skills Sir. Bravo!

    hey man, i love watching you make the knife and it turned out really cool but, the bits where it's fast forwarded i find loud and unpleasant and i dip the volume manually then raise it when you start talking again, maybe dial the volume back on those parts? or put some music over it?

    What steel is this? I can not imagin that it is suitible for knifemaking. Gears are usually made from a non hardenable steel, which get carburized at the gear teeth before hardening. I can't imagine that this blade got really hard. I also wouldn't test hardness with a soft stroke of a file. Try to scrape glass with the tip. If it's able to do that it must have at least 58 HRC.

      If they are differential gears, they're likely made from high tensile steel like 4140. They'd need to take a lot of stress.

    Красиво, но очевидно Мастер про балансировку клинка ничего не слыхал. Баланс от такой рукоятки будет сильно смещен. Ручка очень тяжелая и рубящие удары таким клинком не нанести, рука отвалится, в общем красивая и бесполезная вещь.

    • @darthXreven
      @darthXreven 6 років тому +1

      agreed, the reason you use odd materials is to create a pattern in the blade, the more interesting the source the more interesting the pattern will become, like fuse a clump of scissors together and forge that, you'll get a great pattern in the blade.....
