I was so into watching this video that gator literally scared the bejesus out of me and I jumped higher than bluegabe! I can deal with grizzly bears and mountain lions but those gators are scary! (Also snakes...snakes are scary too!)

It is totally awesome to see a dad with his kids educating them and not just having them sit on electronics all day.
Jake is the man and Luke is coming right along. Gabe being a little creeped out by snakes endears him even more to me.

That being said, not trying to be a brainiac, but I've seen you deal with those "eels" before. They're actually not eels, which are fish. They are amphibians called lesser sirens. The best advice anyone ever gave me when I was in Florida: When approaching any body of water in the state, ALWAYS assume there is an alligator there. I was on the banks of a larger pond looking for fish in the water. Lo and behold, about two feet from me an alligator snapped at the surface and swam away. I was looking right where he was laying and didn't see him right there in front of me. The water on the edge couldn't have been deeper that 1 foot. Scared me senseless.
Very good advice. Florida born and raised here while visiting a friend in Michigan I joined her and some of her neighbors swimming in a nearby lake. As a Florida girl I'm used to looking around me in the water for alligators and was doing the same in Michigan, my friends neighbors laughed at me for it but I told them if they came to Florida for vacation they would not look around them and would probably find themselves in danger. In Florida if you're around any water be on the lookout for predators of all kinds.

For your bait issue, get some little mesh bags to put the bait in inside of the trap. That'll keep the bait together and separated so you can easily pull it out from everything you catch.
The funniest thing to me was when one of the boys said grandmas not gone to like seeing this video. Great guys for all of you.

That weird little catfish y’all found is called Callichthys! It’s a small genus of freshwater catfish in the Callichthyinae subfamily of the armored catfish family, and consists of 4 species from South America. The genus Callichthys is distributed in most freshwater drainages of South America.

Oh my! So glad you guys were okay. I wondered if you knew it was there. I had seen it momentarily in the drone footage and would not thought that small amount of water would hold a gator. Next time I get to Florida I will treat every waterway as if it has a gator or a snake. Neither animal is on my favorite list.

Gabe, life long Floridian here. I've done a lot of freshwater fishing in ponds. I've never had that close of a call with a gator, and I JUMPED when that gator moved.

Scary how close that gator was to the kids and Kelly. That gator was just waiting for anyone of them to move his way and strike......thank god Kelly and the kids did not go that direction....but 10 feet of movement towards the gator and one of them would have been done for..... I would be so paranoid of a gator being in every pocket of water.

I almost had the same exact experience about a year ago. Now I’m paranoid of a gator being in like every body of water. Even in MD where there’s no gators😂 and geez she has a lot of guts to pick up that snake. I would of sprinted away😂. Great video, it’s nice to have a little bit of joy in these terrible times.🤙🏼🤙🏼🐊

I’m laid in bed with my girlfriend, nice and relaxed and 4:09 comes along. My phone got thrown in the air and I jumped like a little girl. Incredible!

I believe the dead hard shell fish is a cascadura, they're a delicacy here in Trinidad, we just gut them and stuff the cavity with tomatoes, tamarind and mango then curry it. You peel the shell back and enjoy ❤

You gotta remember, I wasn’t with the drone. I had it pinned on our location and wasn’t looking at the screen. I didn’t see the footage til we got home and started editing.
