I know there are tons of other podcasts in this vein, but have you guys considered starting a mini-show dedicated to movie talk? I feel like something along these lines has been brought up before, but genuinely it’s my favorite part of the podcast and I feel like y’all know enough/are passionate enough to support a whole show dedicated to it.
Frank has a huge wealth of movie knowledge, I could hear him rant about movies for a good hour without a doubt

I wouldn’t say he’s at his worst, there was a stretch a year or two ago where he was totally intolerable, but yeah he could use a healthy dose of posi vibes.
Marnix Maximus True, he really shines when the topic is something he’s personally interested in, but he does have a habit of shooting others down or spoiling the vibe of topics he’s not really into.

@@vivena9 Agreed but I think what people are saying is that sometimes Derrick's negativity comes off as forced. I normally like his "edgy" stuff but lately it doesn't seem as well thought out. His recent "no more video games" thing seemed really contrived, you can feel like you're wasting just as much time listening to music or reading books about comics, let alone comics themselves

Derrick was onto something talking about the rich underground music scene, and how the Queen movie further detracts from unique and largely undiscovered music, by telling you to think something is great, rather than allowing you to discover Queen on your own and form an opinion.
The Queen movie wasn’t great but I loved it because it’s my 72 year old mother’s favorite band and it has a lot of personal meaning for her. She has been waiting for that movie for 4 years and she was so nervous during the day I took her to see it. Watching her face light up during the whole movie made me choke up. She was 30 again for those 2 hours, singing and dancing in her seat. Now, you would think that would be annoying to the other people there?(I was worried about it but my mom doesn’t give a fuck lol) But she wasn’t annoying, everyone in the theater loved it and sung along with her! It was fucking great, people came up to her afterwards saying how she made the experience better and they were asking her questions about Queen.
I love my mom, she is dope as hell!
(I know this is an unusual comment on a Mega64 video being long and emotional but I felt like sharing that story, if you read this far, thank you)

Ah Derek. Kurt is someone who was as flawed but also someone who created music that people loved. Being in a dark place in your life and having someone like him sharing a similar experience through his music is something that helps people through that sort of shit.
It's easier to cope with a significant problem when you don't feel entirely alone or misunderstood.
He doesn't have the opportunity others do to get through these dark spots in life but to those who have made it through, well of course they idolise or respect him.
Idk man, addiction and what leads to it is pretty shitty. It's hard to get in control of your life when you feel like feeding your addiction is the only way you can. He obviously isn't a hero for what he was doing but if his music and the fact that he wasn't perfect in such a public way helps others than that is something to respect

Agreed, I've always thought that bad taste exists everywhere and is in no way limited to just music or games or whatever. The irony is, I don't find his taste in music to be particularly interesting or unique
Honestly every art form should be approached like food. If you say your favorite food is “McDonald’s cheeseburger” or “steak” you’re probably missing out on a lot in life.

I remember back in like 2007-08 era, it was fucking IMPOSSIBLE to play AVI files if i recall? I don't even think VLC could play AVI unless you had it set to be a correct sort of video file, and it was always hard to find the correct conversion for it, until there was some program that you could drag and drop the avi file into the program and it would fix it correctly.

So they nearly cut Jared Leto's entire performance out of Suicide Squad and he still expected there to be a stand alone Joker movie? I'll even side with the Joker here for a second. I would have been interested in seeing what James Gunn did with Jared Leto's Joker for Suicide Squad 2. We didn't even get a fair chance to hate Leto's Joker.

This podcast (movie segment) made me think of my experience with Hunger Games. The first one, you don't get to the actual tournament until probably more than halfway through so by the time it got there, I was completely invested. The build up was fantastic. The sequels - meh.

Lethal Weapon is another good example of a movie where the first one is not like the sequels. The first is a pretty dark movie where suicide and depression is a major theme, the sequels are Joe Pesci running around doing comedy gags.

They don't handle those themes...so they can be for everyone. Including children. It's really simple.
And even then, older Fire Emblem titles, BotW, Metroid, all got mature themes. Not ever game needs to be The Last of Us or Bloodborne.
Most video game narratives and plots suck major ass, too. There's like a handful of games that handle mature themes in a thoughtful manner and have good gameplay on top of it.
