Hey Ray, This is going to seem like a weird comment, but. . .
I changed my engine's air filter. By myself.
That doesn't sound like much, right? But I'm a cancer and stroke survivor with pretty bad PTSD and difficulty in handling new tasks, and I was never a car guy. So opening the hood is freaking hard mentally and emotionally. My brain can spiral off if things get hard or complex, and I seriously can go from good to crying in the corner in seconds. Recovery has not been easy.
But the dealership wanted $70 to do it, and I knew I could get a good filter for a fifth of that, so today I had the day off and went out to change the filter on my 2008 Ford Ranger. Watched some how-to videos, and thought I was ready. But someone had moved two of the coolant hoses so they made it hard to unclip the air box. I was getting frustrated, feeling it slipping away, then I look down and said.
"Ah, that's the mass airflow sensor."
You see, I've been watching your channel for months now, and I've learned from it, even just a little, and suddenly knowing what I was looking at allowed me to calm myself, re-center, and get back to the job. Once the new filter was in, it was a bear wrestling the air box cover back into place, and I couldn't see one of the two latches, but I got it done, and you bet your ass when I closed that second latch I said "click."
So thank you, Ray. You are doing more good with this channel than I think you can imagine.

Drove the car another 60,000 miles without any lube leakage. Got in a fender bender and bent the frame a bit in the front enough where I could no longer get a good alignment so my beautiful 360,000 mile buddy went by by. Edit: my bad axle was on the passenger side. I didn't realize until a while in both sides are bad on the one Ray has.

The air conditioner mechanic stopped the clutch fan on one of my vehicles with a wadded up rag in his hand. He said he shouldn't be able to do that. He would only warrant the air conditioner work he did on my vehicle if the clutch fan worked properly. He repaired it by flushing out what ever was left of the old viscous fluid (if any) and filling it with new fluid. The go to brand is Toyota fluid. After that was repaired the fan actually roared when the fluid heated up & engaged the fan. I have since repaired a few myself. It is a much better and cheaper option than replacing it with a after market brand let alone the OEM fan clutch.

I was doing brake work being pads, rotors and line on my personal vehicle and needed a union fitting. Sent my wife to the parts store and the salesman sent her home with a compression fitting. That was 3 years ago and now I get to show my wife why the compression fitting is sitting in plumbing parts in my shed.

I feel ya on buying tools man. I impulse buy stuff all the time. I bought a new impact gun a couple of months ago, even though I didn't need one at the time. I haven't even it yet, lol. Sometimes it just feels good to have things that make your life easier. At least you had those sockets when you needed them.

Ray I use a folded piece of thick cardboard to check fan clutches. The cardboard works good because if it’s a good fan clutch it will just bent the cardboard and not damage the plastic fan. Just figured I’d throw that out there.

A Pyro technician that I worked with a few times told me, "When I go home at the end of a day, I strip right down and IF I can count to 21, I know I've had a good day." All I could think as I was laughing and watched the rim rolling idea was "Oh damn, there's going to be some REEEEE comments down there."

Flip the rim over and set the rotor on the rim center. With the dish up, the side of the rim hits the sway bar or control arm and wants to flip the rim.
