Sibeal started her set at the Angels Of The Cathedral concert in Dublin last night with this. She stunned us all into silence with it. As far as singing is concerned, the performance - with a guitar, fiddle and strings arrangement, in St Patrick's Cathedral - was simply ..as good as it gets. World class. I'm off to buy her album.
La version que je préfère...Mais c'est sans importance! Sans doute cette langue énigmatique pour moi!! Mais aussi cette diction, cette voix. Technique envoutante accompagnée par une guitare très à l'écoute. Magnifique. Merci pour ce partage.
As an Irish man I'm from Cork city and there is a lot of variations of this song but either way it is the most haunting of ballads it is basically what us Irish people are
Grace me with thine summer eyes; And I can return but a simpleton's smile. Your voice exudes the warmth of hearths; Known and lost in the times. Take my hand and return me, To home, and hearth, and warmth. In the cold times, your voice guides me. Muse of my texts; bless me with song. Thy voice maketh words unwritten wrote; From the mouth of an unsinger sung. Unbeknownst to you, I hear your call, I am in being; your thrall. My clumsy poetry, Be all for thee.
Go hálainn ar fad... ligimid dúinn féin a bheith curtha ar shiúl ag filíocht agus binneas an ghutha seo 🤩Ach cén fáth go gcuirtear ceist ar an mballa taobh thiar de Sibéal an féidir linn dul go dtí an leithreas?
Very very nice. I recorded an instrumental version of this for the IrishSpace production for the museum in Tralee a long time ago (the world's first virtual reality epic; really). And I used to perform it solo in my acoustic sets, but the gaelic lyrics and my American southern accent seemed to confuse my audiences in Alabama. ;) Beautiful version, folks.
Gorgeous and the song is Beautiful also. How come there is no listing of the vocalist and Guitar player in the description of the video? Love almost every version of this song I have heard so far and that is quite a few. Keep the Culture strong. From America.
Mike Johnson Our culture is dying, thanks to our governments. Leo Varadaker, our prime minister, who is not even full Irish, he is half Indian and does not care about Irish culture, but our stupid people thought it would be cool to elect him because he is gay, and today it is very popular to be gay. Our young people are not the Irish of old, they are entitled and privileged and only think of themselves, greedy and selfish, shame on their parents, they are destroying our country, culture and heritage. We now have wholesale abortion in Ireland and these privileged idiots, cheered and laughed and celebrated the fact that millions of babies would be slaughtered so they could enjoy being promiscuous. Shame on Ireland, Shame on the parents of all those evil entitled imbeciles.

I love Trad TG4. Half the comments are really awful, trying to recruit some sort of defense of whiteness. There is nothing racial about Irishness. It is a culture that anyone can carry.
Yes how dare people on T R A D G4 a channel for Traditional Irish Cultural music be against multiculturalism, the idea of merging cultures to destroy individual culture in favor of fractured ethnic enclaves
@@ryanoflaherty9876 You’re 100% correct. That Ireland has freed itself of the crown, only to be willingly subservient to the Euro is painful. Multiculturalism is great, but not at the expense of losing one’s own cultural heritage. Keep Ireland Irish.
Maith thú Sibéal go h Álainn ar fad ❤

Best version ever of this beautiful haunting song.
As an Irish man I'm from Cork city and there is a lot of variations of this song but either way it is the most haunting of ballads it is basically what us Irish people are
Should that not be: 'As a Cork man from Ireland'?

And I can return but a simpleton's smile.

defense of whitness, ..nothing racial about Irishness, A culture that anyone can carry ? what kind of nonsence bubble do you inhabit?
I agree with you Jason
Nope not true, whiteness may not be real but you can't be Irish if you're not ethnically Irish

Gaelic voice. Jury's still out on the origins of the Gaels.
Sorry a bit of key
Such a beautiful song. This one here is very good, but I think Kate Bush's version is a little better.
She is a good singer but definitely not a great singer tharmts for sure theres are 1000s equally as good ie more suited for pub singing
Not bad - and she sure is beautiful. But this is never the best version of this song. Try for example Nolwenn Leroy
Beautiful ❤
