    they are funnels made sized for 55 gal drums, highly recommend, all corn will empty, none stuck in bottom. which is frustrating, but also may spoil?

    If you want it to gravity flow better take a 4inch piece of pvc pipe and center it in the bottom of the barrel inside and hammer it down a little bit and you can make it slide down to the drop tube

    in cattle pastures, those cattle can destroy any feeder! fence it off? also, if you mount keg plates in center of barrel likely more stable, with those legs.

      We started with the feeders set in CRP fields or spots that couldn't be accessed by livestock. But fences often get washed out during Spring rains so the cattle would get out. So we've started fencing the feeders in with non-barbed wire. We thought about putting the plates in the middle of the barrel and that would also help the height for the deer to feed more comfortably, but it's already almost difficult to reach from the bed of a pickup. As the legs get bent or broken we replace them with solid steel pipe and that seems to work really well, although more expensive.

    Great video and just subscribed! I have made something similar with the motorized spinner, but I like the idea of a gravity feeder. Does it clog up very much or does the corn keep flowing pretty well? Thanks for the inspiration. Also, where are some good places to find the metal barrels?

    • @derekdB

      Appreciate the sub! I've used the spinners in past too and just didn't want to deal with batteries. Corn and pellets flow both flow very well, I did have some alfalfa pellets get wet inside (my fault, accidentally dumped water from the lid inside when opening) and they swelled and got moldy, had to scoop that all out. Otherwise no flow issues. We got our metal barrels from my dad's employer, an envelope factory. The barrels held ink for printing. You might scout out recycling places or scrap yards. Make sure you get one with the removeable lid instead of just a bung hole. Hope that helps!

    How high off the ground is the gravity feeding part? Mine is too high, and deer can't get their mouths in there. Thanks!

    • @derekdB
      @derekdB  11 місяців тому

      If I remember correctly we made them 34 inches off the ground, could probably go a little higher but might be tough to fill

    Would this work with a 55 gallon drum, or is that too heavy?

    • @derekdB
      @derekdB  2 роки тому

      We used 55gal drums for ours, legs are a bit wobbly so we upgraded one with steel pipe legs, but the leg kits did work

    How long does it take the deer to empty that feeder?

    • @derekdB
      @derekdB  3 роки тому

      About 2 weeks. We only fill them about 2/3 of the way full, the legs are a little bendy after that. It takes about 7 buckets of corn to fill 2/3 of the way. And we get about 7-8 deer each night feeding off of the one where we use the Tactacam Reveal camera.

      You're right, it isn't anymore! I just checked prices and it all went up over the last few years, our barrels are free so that helps. We ended up replacing a few legs that cows damaged with solid pipe and that stuff was ridiculously expensive, paid more for the pipe than the whole rig the first time!
