Joining a club provides you the ability to compete at all levels, participate in fantastic events and most importantly the community and camaraderie that comes along with it all. Wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Totally agree, I’m a member of two clubs one I joined on restarting the game. £325 a year but I got a n into membership for last 5 months £70. It’s a 9 holer with extra tees for the 18 hole rounds, can often play and hardly anyone on the course.
Also a member at a club two
Minutes from my house, £1250 yr, good club house, practice range, chipping / bunker area and putting green. Both have a good set of members, non of the stuck up captain, secretary, handicap sec, chairman, president all with reserved car parking and think they have extra privileges. Both clubs plenty of comps and social golf.
Recently retired and it’s almost rained everyday closing the courses just writing this winter off as hopefully an excessively wet one.
Local pay as play 9 holes is £16 but I am out 4-5 times weather permitting

Frustrating paying for 12 months then 4-5 months of the year it’s too wet to play in the UK, temp greens and fairway mats are terrible so only really get to use 7-8 months of your membership.

Agree but realistically the course still needs looking after for the other 4 months and that maintenance isn’t cheap, so I just see it as tax for the course being in great condition come spring 😂

I used to be a frequent golfer. But now that I have young family, I no longer have the time. My issue is this - the cost of pay&play has gone crazy. I don't mind paying if I know I'm playing well. But I don't play enough to be consistent. So the thought of paying £50+ for a round is just way to much.
Costs have gone up, I get that. But it's no really in line with the whole 'grow the game' message they like to put out

It's more complicated than that. A golf membership is far more than a simple financial transaction. As a member of a club (assuming the club does it well) you should feel like part of a community, receive diverse membership benefits.

I like going to different courses. I'd feel obligated to only go to the country club to maximize my money there. Maybe if I had the money I might since they can be expensive. For now I enjoy the freedom to try a variety of courses.

I live in Central Queensland Australia and it’s summertime 51 weeks of the year. My local courses are decent, but not like what we see on your channel . A lot of employers in my area subsidise golf membership which is fantastic. I’m a member of 2 and I’m out of pocket $300 Australian dollars per year. I doubt golf is as cheap anywhere else in the Western World

A lot of clubs will not let you play unless you have a handicap so you need to be a member to have a handicap. Blackmail at its finest

You can get a handicap now if you’re not a member anywhere

Clubs are out of date, playing the same course all the time sucks
