- Exercise Pitch Black 2018 witnessed many first’s, and one of those was the participation by the Indian Air Force, who brought along four Sukhoi Su-30MKI Flankers, from No.102 Squadron and supporting them was an No.81 Squadron C-17A Globemaster III and No.87 Squadron Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Hercules.
ASO’s videographer was privileged to have obtained access during one of the morning launches during the Exercise at RAAF Base Darwin as the Su-30MKI’s taxied out for departure and their return.

SU30 MKI - Mark Kommercial Indian. Airframe and weapon systems Russia, avionics France/Israel. Software Indian. This is one monster that never turns on its entire capability during exercises abroad. It has some kind of tech that is totally classified. The Russians were so impressed by the Indian modifications that they asked for a TOT to make their own MKI variant. And this is definitely NOT an aircraft that you want to engage in WWR. Its low speed maneuverability is absolutely ridiculous.Couple that with a helmet mounted off bore-sight capability and its game over.

it’s Russian origin aircraft & this particular aircraft SU 30 development cost is shared by INDIA as well as after fall of USSR Sukhoi corporation has limited funds .
India operates 272 SU 30mki which are assembled in india with some Indian part as well . India can integrate any country weapon , flight computers , head up display anything as per india requirements
Israeli French & Indian weapon & other equipment are also used with it not compulsory to use Russian only .

We are proud of our SU30. It is fantastic machine and can beat F-22. The issue is with our Pilots training, their skills and capabilities. We need to train our pilots like PAF pilots. It was the skills, capability, confidence and courage of PAF pilots sitting in China made JF-17 shooting down our far more advance SU30 in our own airspace. Such a humiliation and demoralisation of our air force. As a nation we need to stand up against the corrupt leaders and dirty media to accept the reality and focus on real issues.

India needs to upgrade these aircraft with GAN AESA radar which would allow it to see other 4.5 gen fighters first. It also needs a radar coating to bring down radar signature. Its king in close combat. It will be the best again in 4.5 gen for its abilitity to carry among other Brahmos land and sea cruise missiles.

Sky Bound they have a very powerful radar suite onboard which will, and does match, many current radar suites in use by western air forces.
Bro they ain't the regular su30's of Russia. Indian su30 mki's are upgraded to the latest raders and avionics. +There ain't an additional fin Infront of the russian su30. The additional fin on the Indian su30 gives it additional and improved manuvaribility
They're more of an interceptor/dogfighter rather than a stealth or air superiority aircraft. Plus it's only 30M a piece.

@@NationalSecurityGuard108 Russian aircrafts have unparalleled maneuverability and speed in particular but need quite a lot of maintenance and they wear off real quick. They need to change engines and other parts more frequently but our armed forces and the government delays the upgrading and overhaul processes of aircraft and other war machines because of which they crash or become inoperable.
I expected things to change after the 2020 galwan valley clashes but we're still lethargic and can't even maintain our weapons properly let alone manufacturing them on large scale.
This year's budget shows decreased defence budget. We are decreasing the defence budget but we don't have any problems with freebies that are eating us alive from inside.
I just don't like my country anymore.
