@@donnymiddlebrook Yeah they are small, NOW. They were big before they started dying out due to old age. The Baby boomer generation and the Great generation were both bigger then GenX. Which makes it the smallest generation over the past hundred years. Primarily due to the crazy high inflation and general instability that was taking place during those times.
There was no link to the poll and its methodology. (I looked on google and couldn’t find a link to the data.) The problem with comparing how generations vote, over a 10 year period, is that the difference in voting pattern may not take into effect who votes. For instance, Gen X may not have become more conservative since ‘12, but rather that those who were motivated to vote, in ‘22, were more conservative than those who didn’t vote. Conversely, the opposite may have been true for Gen X in the ‘12 election cycle. So, without knowing if a weighted averaging methodology was used, to account for this bias, or a random sampling method, the only reasonable conclusion to reach is that voting patterns may also be effected by who is on the ballot - and not only the inherent voting preferences of a generation.
Gen X'er here. I've voted Republican twice. Both GHW Bush and GW Bush. I haven't voted Republican since 2004 and I don't plan on voting Republican ever again.
Except, even GOP members and conservative pundits have openly acknowledged that Gen Z in particular lean heavily to the left, to the point of suggesting that the voting age should be raised 🤷
I grew up under Reagan and was raised a republican but I don't associate with these wackos. I am ashamed of what they've become. Crazy af. Been a lib since 2012.
Those wacko's always been there. Goes back to the late 1960's when Nixon called them 'kooks'. Even as a flawed man himself. They were the fringe. Coming from in MN. I always sided with the 2 factions of liberal and progressive. Since I agreed with the likes of Humphrey/Wellstone, etc. But as an unaffiliated voter. Since we don't have to register here :) Haven't missed a vote since 2006. Since I started :)
Which Gen Xers are you polling here? Because, um ... I'm legitimately WAY more liberal than I was when I was younger, and so are all the Gen Xers I know around me (who are not also already bathing in the money their parents left them, anyway). Personally, I'm more liberal than a fair number of the Millennials I know. But I'm Black and a woman and half my family is from Europe, so ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also, like, don't we have numbers that say that a considerable amount of the MAGA base is actually made up of young, white men on the two ends of the socioeconomic spectrum? In other words, without knowing *who* makes up the people you're polling, I'm not sure I trust these numbers.
While they did discuss surveys that were done, at the start of the video, they mentioned voting data. And Gen X is largely voting with republicans. There's no fudging the numbers around that.
That's why "some" Republicans were whining talking about upping the age for voting. Nope let everyone vote how they want you can't change the laws because your bitter and too lazy to put in effort to connect with Gen Z. They got to put in the effort to change that plain and simple.

I grew up while Bush, Clinton and Bush again we’re presidents. One thing I recall was the Republican party was always at war with a country or with the people of the US. It was always inciting violence. When I came to age I voted Democrat and don’t plan on changing that. Its such a pitty we cannot be a unified country and work together to make this country be better.
The special interest "lobbyists" will never let that happen, the corporations, the military industrial complex, the billionaires are always scheming to remain and grow their power.
It's a pity, but it's also a NECESSARY division. No unity with literal fascists. They are to be expunged from the process, not welcomes with open arms so they can further poison it.
You should research how many different countries were bombed when Obama was president! Democrats hate Russia! We are always involved in Syria and other countries when democrats are in office! Look now! Almost world War 3 ! Both parties have their hands on other countries pockets! It's all about $$$$$
I doubt it. Lots of people I grew up with are conservatives now. And the Republicans keep winning elections. Somebody has to be voting for them. Boomers aren't enough to win. Just be happy we have a more knowledgeable generation coming up behind us. Internet rotted gen X minds, but it's enlightening the youth. That's what the war on tiktok is really about.
Older millennial here and definitely agree. I may not agree with ALL the democrats stances and sometimes find myself having somewhat of a centrist take on occasion - but the Republican Party has gone so far off my political radar that I can't see myself ever voting for them again. Millennial and same, typically do split ticket voting when either party is too far left or right. But good God the republicans have veered way of the the course
I’m sorry, but how little thought could have gone into any of this? You moved that far after “educating” yourself? What the heck were you doing before? Just trying to understand how this happens. I can see going from slightly right to slightly left. Or independent to moderately liberal or conservative. But to go Trump to “very liberal” - practically jumping across the whole spectrum - seems… rudderless?
"Educated myself"?. More like you catch woke mind virus and then drink the "kool aid" from woke cultist. You dont change political view that dramatically... unless you got brainwashed.
I think there's an important, but missing stat. Not only are Gen Z more liberal, they are voting in higher numbers than millennials at the same age. My kids and their friends are Gen Z and they're all super liberal. I can't see them switching to the current GOP at any point in the future. The GOP has to change if they want any chance of getting the Z vote.
I do think some in Gen Z will shift but you’re right, they won’t become GOP. What I think will happen is a bunch of the Bernie/AOC type Democrats will become Biden/Sharice Davids type Democrats. They will go from left wing to center left. I’m a millennial who’s been political all my life and always fairly moderate. Are you Vietnamese? I lived there for 8 months and 💗 it.
GOP knows they have an issue with minority voters for the most part, but they refuse to change their stupid message and platform. they double down as if that's going to fix the issue, meanwhile they are dying in higher proportion than anyone else in the country. Over half of ALL American kids right now are minorities.
they are super liberal because kids that age know nothing about adult life - they hardly pay any taxes if at all - its 100% emotional and the politicians know that. Why do you think the whole push of the dems is constantly offering free stuff and trying to convince everyone of victimhood. The democratic party is as corporate and crooked as the republican party. And AOC - the big progressive she pretends to be just got behind biden - A guy who cant keep from falling over when he isn't forgetting who he is. Its no surprise that youngins pretend to be very left. Was it any different in the 60s? Did hippies align with Nixon...I think not.
The older I get, the more liberal. Grew up in the era of Reagan, and when Bush started getting the religious right involved in politics, that was it. I strongly believe in separation of church and state.
This is what happens when one side of the aisle refuses to address real problems that are negatively impacting younger Americans. They have no positive solutions for gun control, college tuition costs, minimum wage, LGBTQ rights, woman's health access, healthcare costs, housing costs, etc. If you want to win over voters, maybe try focusing on real issues.
Uhhhh…. As the eldest member of Gen Z (born in 1997) the question about Hillary Clinton not appealing to Gen Z isn’t applicable at all 😅 I just turned 19 in 2016- meaning, only the eldest in my generation could vote (those born in ‘97 and ‘98. Our age group didn’t have a chance to truly swing right or left in that election, and what is concerning is how commentators still tried to answer the question. Oof.
I was born in the second half of 1996 so I guess I'd be considered a Millennial depending on where you considered the cutoff point to be. But I honestly feel like we're our own generation, a transitional generation which I've heard called Zillennial.
Basically if you grew up seeing the emergence of social media like MySpace and Facebook and the birth of online influencers through UA-cam you're probably a Zillennial. Younger Gen Z most likely doesnt remember this as social media and online influencers have been a things since they were very young.
I was born in '04 so I was too young to vote in both '16 and '20, but let me tell you I am not thrilled about voting for a moderate in '24 but I will absolutely do so if it means Trump or DeSantis doesn't get elected.

@@finchboratYou mentioned being taxed to death along with forced to do things, so because you didn't elaborate, I had to infer what you meant, hence my response asking for elaboration. Read the 13th amendment word for word. It doesn't outlaw slavery explicitly and the legal definition of slavery is involuntary servitude for the benefit of another and not yourself. The 13th amendment explicitly states that being punished for a crime makes it an acception to the rule. This means people in prison that are forced to do work for the benefit of others are slaves owned by the state, legally slaves in fact. It also means that child support, income tax, truancy, and selective service are all violations of the 13th amendment which the supreme court shot all of them down very quickly stating it's not slavery by "interpretation" and not by the semantics. Our legal system works on interpretation because if it didn't, I assure you you would have been serving the dems long ago. Also when new laws change, if they can be enforced then they are the law and they can be enforced, even things that aren't the law and are instead merely cultural behaviors which are illegal. Some people can't even explain why society is collapsing or understand it in relation to the things I'm stating and instead use manipulative tactics to associate it with the wrong variables that don't measure our complex system directly. If the dems rule in this democratic republic, then technically you would have to back their ideas if it's enforced right? Well is it being enforced? Think about it. I wasn't originally in context a left leaning centrist. I was a right in context leaning centrist. The thing that changed me is that right now you have the right making the same mistakes the Native Americans made when America was invaded by the British. They're a penny wiser and a dollar dumber. The state sends someone to prison and gives them a 250 dollar a night fee for staying there on top of their crimes punishment. While they're being charged for the punishment of the crime, they're being charged 250 dollars to stay somewhere they have no choice to stay. They get their house auctioned off because the state and the state doesn't pay them for it because they pay it toward their debt that was a violation to the 13th amendment. The state enforces these things and when people post it on social media, you can see it archived sometimes but it gets removed more quickly than other instances. George Floyd wouldn't have made it on social media if it wasn't pushed. Look at twitter. Both the right and left paid to silence people. Both sides are forcing things here. Taking things out of context here is red flagging you to over 50% of the population. I can't see the right recovering and they're doubling down. Texas is likely going to flip blue now because last mid-term election more than half the ballot stations "ran out of ballots" while it's known democrats vote later on.

4:42 "America is winning. We're right, they're wrong." I've often thought about what it must feel like to grow up in a country in which you feel this about your own nation. As a non-American who often sees regular Americans very emotionally defend their place in the world, and how important it is for them to see the US as a dominant country in charge of world decisions, it appears to me that growing up in the US really has a deep affect on a person's psyche. I grew up in an insignificant country, which means whatever the country does on the world scene (very little, that is) is meaningless. So my mentality is in no way affected by what my country does in the world, or its standing among other countries. But for Americans, that sense of being "American", as an identity, seems to profoundly affect how they perceive themselves as individuals. Therefore any negativity the US faces on the world scene Americans take personally, while any positive achievements the country achieves Americans take as a personal ego-booster. I could never imagine anyone in my country think, let along say, something like "Our country is winning. We're right, they're wrong." [EDIT] Finished an incomplete sentence. A few words were oddly missing.
You have to understand, at least in decades past, it was painted in moralistic tones. It's not so much "We WIN!!!!!" so much as "We were the most moral and right!". And remember, the small children this propaganda victimizes don't have the intellectual capacity to defend themselves from it. They don't have any concept of the world at all beyond what parents and other closely associated authority figures tell them. The lie is designed to make one feel pride in one's place, in the RIGHTEOUSNESS of it. It's Eurocentrism. Just in the US.
Yours is an interesting insight. As a Gen X'er, I was absolutely raised with the ideal of America as the defender of the world. We saved the world in World War II...we stood (almost) alone against the Evil Empire in the Cold War...the '80s were heady days to be an American. Forty years of being unquestionably the indispensable nation, the crux of world events made us both arrogant and burdened with a sense of duty. Then, the '90s came and we stood victorious and alone. Since then, we've staggered from one crisis to another...9/11, the great recession, COVID, all of which made our young people question both our place and our mission. Now, we're a nation that lacks both unity and purpose but possessing immense power. That's not a good combination.
This Gen Xer was always Democrat but now consider myself a progressive. These conservatives are monsters! They break my heart everyday with thier ignorance and cruelty 😢
This is so out there. I don't buy it at all. My sister and I are only 22 months apart - both born in the late 60's. We are COMPLETELY different when it comes to politics. Opposite ends of the scale. I have been a dem my entire life and the way things are going there won't be a republican party in a couple of years LOL. All the republicans I personally know are completely extremist. No matter their age. My mother is 80 something - she's a complete maga freak. My niece is a millennial, husband a war vet - she's a democrat.
They glossed over how much “never feeling safe in school” has impacted Gen Z. Imagine having to know each day could be the day you get gunned down in your own school…you can bet they don’t forgive the people not doing anything
I often think about this. I was in school in the 80s and, while not everything was better about those times, I can honestly say it NEVER ONE TIME occurred to me I may be gunned down after social studies class. Not. Once. I have no idea how modern kids do it. I honestly don't think I could have survived the stress they have to endure today. We HAVE to do better for them! Even if it does mean curtailing some of our rights. The second amendment is not more important than our childrens' safety.
I agree. I would consider myself independent because I have voted for both but I think balance is useful. Republicans can't appeal to Gen z because of the school shooting issue and abortion. They are competing to see who can be the most cruel with abortion bans in states that have the highest mortality for childbirth and they want to force that on young women and girls. Women trying to have babies are getting caught up in these bans when something goes wrong with their pregnancy. This is sad and I can't see that not ever being a problem for people of child bearing age. I am Gen X and I feel sorry for them so much.

All money comes either from our government that issues our currency or banks that issue loans (private debt). Whatever our government pays for when it issues our currency is free from bank issued loans (private debt). Banks hate federally funded public goods that reduce household reliance on bank loans.
I’m a millennial and i started Republican and went Democrat after all the lies the right pushes as well as the alt right like MTG and others like that.
I think the biggest discrepancy with this poll is that it compares a presidential year vs a midterm. I think it exposes the biggest problem with the Democratic party, they have a harder time turning out in a non democratic year. I think if you compared 2012 to 2020, you'd see the bar hasn't shifted that much.
true, but 2022 showed that anything can change... there was NO red wave, they barely gained anything and lost in some cases. and that's due in large part to the younger generations that ARE finally voting because they see the BS trying to be passed by the GOP that will affect them and their bodies or whatever.
Why do you always forget to address voter turnout? Also, it is disingenuous to say Clinton failed to connect. She got 3 million more voters than DT in 2016. We have a flawed National election system for the Presidency. You should incorporate this into the conversation. Chuck Todd should be smarter than this.
It's worth noting this is only ONE poll. The larger data doesn't show this kind of shift among millennials. Many polls are showing them moving *more* left as they get older, which is something we've never seen before.

Gen Z here, have always been progressive since middle school. Everyday has made me more progressive and want nothing but for everyone to get the same rights.
that's because of those democrat run indoctrination programs, they call "public education"

4:42 "America is winning. We're right, they're wrong."
I've often thought about what it must feel like to grow up in a country in which you feel this about your own nation. We're right, they're wrong."
[EDIT] Finished an incomplete sentence. A few words were oddly missing.
🇺🇸🦅🗽👊
@@brushylake4606 And? Did you have a point or did the antipsychotics just wear off?

This is what happens when you live long enough to witness Overton Window movement
I apologize for my fellow Gen-Xers who vote republican. Their silent generation parents raised them that way and they never learned better.
Your a disgrace to Gen X if you are not a conservative. Somewhere in your life you forgot what being Gen X is all about. Anti government, freedom, independence. You must have lost your way

Let me say as a gen Z that conservatism is a non starter for a lot of my generation, because we grew up watching them attack us, our families and friends, my generation embraces humans for who they are, whether LGBT, PoC, or non Christians. We value empathy and humanity.... conservatives do not, and we've seen it our whole lives. Plus we grew up with unparalleled access to information so trying to BS us doesn't work as well when we can fact check you in 5 seconds flat... which if you've ever spent time fact checking conservatives you'd realize over half of everything they say is straight up lies to fire up their Christian america first base
Mmmh. Gen Z is just as racist as its previous generations. The Blue side may be more "accepting" but the Red side is still the same. I think you will see as people age. It's gonna be more equal than you think. From a fellow Gen Z.
Liberals aren’t more open-minded and accepting, they only seem that way. They only accept people who agree with them, same as conservatives. They are both just two sides of the same coin.
Comparing a presidential election to midterm elections is already a bad poll. Many only vote in the presidential elections every 4 years. This is a bad poll which makes it a bad story and NBC should feel bad because of it!
man I am Gen X but no way will I ever be a republican
Gen X here...always been a Dem. Always forward thinking, arts, science, environmental
It does scare them. It’s likely why the GOP wants to raise the voting age.
But you do not move right, society moves around you as you get older.
Im Gen X and I will NEVER vote Republican
I am Gen X older Gen X born in 65. I have never voted GOP ever. I grew up with parents who were kids during the depression. I was educated on what the GOP did to cause the great republican depression. Later Gen X most likely grew up brainwashed in the Reagan era which is why that group votes GOP.
If the Gen X data is accurate, then I'm disappointed in my generation. We were the "slacker" generation, save the whales, and cure AIDS, end apartheid, and racism through love and understanding.... we were never going to vote to fatten our wallet not if it meant holding someone else down, which is what the GOP is all about. Makes me sad.
We Gen Xers grew up during the Reagan era. About half of us eulogize the 80s, and the wild partying and rad hairstyles and great music, and associate the Republican Party with that. The other half remember AIDS, crack, the Cold War, the rise of the Religious Right and the Satanic Panic, say, "No thanks," and vote Democratic. So there you go!
I literally was President of the College Republicans when I was in college in 2015, I have voted for Democrats ever since. My entire executive board has left the Republican Party because of trump.

I am a black millennial and I will never voted Republican no matter how old I get.

Explanation to this poll: Gen X was able to recover from the last recession because they had job experience; so they were first in line to get the best jobs once the economy recovered. For them the old school way of doing capitalism is ok, it works for them. The hasnt been teue for millennials and Gen Z because companies have started to monopolize whole industries and drive down wages because they are the only game in town.
the issue with this reasoning is that democrats are pretty hardline conservatives economically.

As a republican Gen Z our generations loves creating new problems like the 80+ genders, cancel culture, and blm riots. Our generation was even convinced to vote for a candidate with dementia! Progressives want to support the ideas of socialism and support something outdated. Want to legalize unethical abortion without any exceptions, 🤦🏼 truly sad.
Only if you vote. Don't make the mistakes the boomers did. A very thoughtful and hopeful sub-culture of them had a lot of good ideas once. But after winning a couple of cultural victories, they made the mistake of assuming that they were "on the right side of history" and became complacent. The truth is, there is no right side of history. History is ONLY what we do, and what we fail to do.
Gen Z has more potential than any demographic in living memory. But potential is meaningless if you don't ACT on it. Eventually, all potential collapses into did, or did not, and THAT is what becomes history.

All money comes either from our government that issues our currency or banks that issue loans (private debt).
Whatever our government pays for when it issues our currency is free from bank issued loans (private debt).
Banks hate federally funded public goods that reduce household reliance on bank loans.

You're right! I didn't notice that. That discredits his whole argument.
😂😂😂 keep dreaming, we will keep voting💙💙💙💙💙
Why do you always forget to address voter turnout? Also, it is disingenuous to say Clinton failed to connect. She got 3 million more voters than DT in 2016. We have a flawed National election system for the Presidency. You should incorporate this into the conversation. Chuck Todd should be smarter than this.
It's worth noting this is only ONE poll. The larger data doesn't show this kind of shift among millennials. Many polls are showing them moving *more* left as they get older, which is something we've never seen before.
