A beautiful example of team work a wife on her husband shoulders out in the middle of a frozen field. Thumbs up Laura and Grant Happy New Year to you and your families
Brrrdom and deep snows rule much of the northern plains. Laura and Grant represent Nebraska strong and how reality reigns as farmers and ranchers take care of business every day! Again and again...
When We think about 350 Million+ Americans live in a Country , Number 3 area wise in this 🌏.Agriculture is back bones of the country.Your hard work to give other Women to come back to Agriculture. Thanks sharing.
Great team work by this experienced husband/wife farm team. Laura, you should think about running for a public office in a few years. Everyone knows you, you are an excellent presenter and you have a magic for getting the job done no matter the task. You would make an epic House Representative for District 3. Check it out. Would love to see a common sense, well spoken person in Congress someday.
Scotty the cat deserves to be spoiled, payment for keeping the Farms rodent free and safe, enjoyed the video very much, and sometimes working out in the cold like that and accomplishing something it's a very satisfying feeling, much respect from Southwestern Ontario!
Can't really weld the block (well, it can be done, but whether it will hold or not is iffy), but you can have a sleeve put in that cylinder which will work fine. (The Block is bored at that cylinder and a sleeve - a hollow metal cylinder - is pressed in. I've done lots. Works great.)
Yes the cracked block can be welded. Is it worth it, probably not. Keep it for parts and to repair other motors. Also, don't hang that much weight on the tip of your tines. That much bend can permanently weaken the tine, even more than drilling a hole in them in the first place.
thank you for your interest in fixing things the old school way it is a fine art if you have been tought by the old and now gone masters in the farming life
You and Grant are a great role model for young people. Too few of the younger generations know what actual work, common sense, cooperation, and perseverance really are. Oh, and we jokingly call using a hammer to break something loose "percussive maintenance." Best to your and your families for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2023. God Bless.
Love the videos! You guys are awesome! Quick tip for ya - anytime you might be working with hose clamps - toss a 1/4" drive ratchet in your pocket with a 5/16"and a 1/4" socket. That way you don't have to worry about the flat screwdriver slipping - and you can get the clamps loosened/tightened easier...👍
Happy New You to the Love birds and glad you took the time off to spend together and with family. You are doing what I tell people all the time to do, if you do not learn something new the closer you re to the grave
Happy new year Laura missed you last week hopefully you had a great year end celebration See you soon and That engine block with the crack is now a boat anchor
enjoyed the fun in the cold weather. but as I learned to use the mirrors to back as a younger man. I hope Laura will work to make her backing skills better by working to use her mirror on all her backing needs
Hey Laura and Grant, you should have a 5/16" ratchet wrench in your pocket for loosening hose clamp brackets. Works much better than pliers & a screwdriver.
I worked at a co op and we built frames for the engine's and tanks,I also had to deliver and level them, instead of the legs just weld some rectangular tubing on each side that way you just drive up and slide your forks in and your set,can always use small cement blocks or dig a bit to level them!!
01:18 When you set the ball on top of the hitch, then back-up an inch to "Drop" the hitch onto the ball, the trailer will surge forward as it drops and jam against the internal latch part. Your fix using encouragement works OK until you accidentally bend the lever. Hint: when you back-up and drop the hitch onto the ball, put your truck back in 'D'rive and pull an inch forward. That takes the preasure off of the internal latch, and you probably won't have to encourage it at all. (Probably)
My nephew and his family go to MOAB every year so your videos came up on my Y/T feed.. I don't know anything about farming however I just subscribed to you and Grants channel to learn! Went back on some videos and have all ready learned about Pivots I live in Washington and I have always termed them as round sprinklers! Pivots make sense.. that would have been a .52 meal for me being 60 miles south of Seattle You two make a Great Team! E.
The snow is SO pretty! (when viewed on the screen of my computer) I guess it's like the heat in Summertime Texas. You just have to be born to it! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
If that block is only cracked through the water jacket it's an easy fix. Take a wire wheel and clean any rust off, then use a dye check kit to see where the crack actually is and ends. Next take a small drill and drill a stop hole at each end of the crack. Now use a burr to V out most of the crack and braze it up. There are thousands of older farm tractors and equipment out there with brazed water jackets from the occasional "OOPS it got cold faster than I thought" I have one that was repaired on the old family farm by my grandfather in the late 40's, still going strong and hasn't ever leaked.
You and Grant are always so busy. I couldn`t believe all the engines in your shop that need attention. Farmers like you are NEVER done working. Even in the winter. Wishing you both a Happy, safe and "prosperous" New Year from Fort Wayne, IN.
@David Hello how are you doing today Will love to know you if you don’t mind sending me your gmail address so that we can become a good friend some day
Obviously, you guys like working in freezing temps more than I do. 😀🥶 Great explanation of what you were doing! Also, I absolutely love the disclaimer at the end. 👊
The 460 block with the crack in the water jacket can be saved . Drill a 1/4 hole at each end of the crack then wield it with nickel or cast rod . Have a great new year !
glad to see you're beautiful, cheerful, smiling, self-back on the tube. missed Ya. Your love for life and farming puts me in a good mood and makes my day
Have to laugh watching you back up the truck and trailer. This is how my wife does it. I keep telling her the mirrors are much easier than twisting your body to look out the rear window. Maybe one of your 2023 task that you want to get better at. Love the channel, all the best to you and Grant.
Looking forward to seeing you back out in the fields and Foreman stay warm out there and be safe with that little bit of ice and snow I like watching all your radios you guys work hard and play hard and you are very good at farming running all the equipment and you ain't afraid to learn how to run more and do what and do all the hard work in long hours
@Thomas Hello how are you doing today Will love to know you if you don’t mind sending me your gmail address or WhatsApp number so that we can become a good friend some day
I can tell you nothing about farming. But being an hvac/electric contractor you and Grant should know that youtube is like a small company far as I can see. Don't apologize for taking time off or doing content that is different but u enjoy doing it. Always remember Noone on their death bed wished they worked more than they spent time with family.
I really needed an escape from reality after what I saw on Monday night football.....Thank you Laura and Grant. You guys were just what I needed to smile for a little while....
Laura prettiest smile in the world. You and Grant need a vacation in Jamaica, there's a 7 mile stretch , perfect for swimming snorkeling just being lazy great pina colidas... now that would be a perfect video!!! It's ❄️ Winter take a break. Lovin'it from Texas.
Most people don’t understand that farming/gardening are a year round activity. Winter is the big time I work on a lot of composting since I organic garden and most years the ground isn’t so frozen so I usually turn a lot of soil to make sure nutrients are dispersed. I also do repairs on tools this time of year.
Thank you for posting!!! Your 'snow work' brings back a few memories of being in the snow and ice in New Hampshire and here in the Sierra's. I am glad i live in San Jose. I also appreciate that you took some personal 'down time'!!!
@Micheal Hello how are you doing today Will love to know you if you don’t mind sending me your gmail address so that we can become a good friend some day
Yes it can be fixed but I would recommend a Nickel rod, grind and prepare the area. Then preheat the block and get something that you can put the block into after welding. To cool the block back to hand cool.
A great beginning to the year. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole annual cycle of Nebraska farming. Planting, growing, harvesting, followed by letting the land lie fallow to catch its breath during the winter. I learn so much from your channel.
Happy Holidays Laura, Grant and families. Glad you folks did take some "me time". That engine you showed, in the shop, with a crack? That's the block, not head. Best to do with that is get a replacement block.
I am sure i can tell Grant how to do this i know your Dad would understand this well i can teach you how this is done this process is old school butt it always works for the lifetime of the engine. I am going to visit family in Illinois this next week but i can give you answers over chat or phone vidio or voice love to help you out I have a lot of respect for you and what you do and Grant also God bless oh stay InTouch
When it’s cold have a spray bottle with airline antifreeze in it and spray it on the hitch latch, it will melt ice in the latch so don’t need a hammer hammers and cold weather break things. I drove trucks for 40 years and that’s what I used to free up frozen latches
Happy New Year Laura and Grant y'all make a wonderful team on the farm. Farming and Truck drivers our the in my opinion is the most Important Job in America with people like y'all we the people of good old UNITED STATES OF AMERICA would be hungry God Bless the FARMERS AND THE TRUCK DRIVERS

I am glad you got some much deserved downtime, rest, and family time over the holiday break from social media. Winters on the farm are about repairs, maintenance and planning for spring, amid some much needed rest and recovery from the hectic spring-summer-fall seasons. Wishing you and Grant a great, safe, and prosperous 2023.
Tinkering Rigging Hauling Towing maintenance Mechanics Technical stuff all around. Full work loads. Great stuff. Gotta love it. As far as the safety announcement goes. Just be safe. Stay well. Always practice proper lifting techniques lifting with your legs never lift with your back, climbing up onto vehicles and when working with loads practice the three points of contact, always make sure to securely attach lock strap and tie down all equipment and loads, finally make sure to always keep machines in the proper mode of transmission to protect yourself from accidents, always keep excellent construction boots with great treads. Glad you Guys had a time out and awesome lunch. I think two or three subs woulda been on the menu for Me with that work load you Guys had. Take care.
I love to see you two working together, just like a hand going into a glove. Glad that you had a wonderful holiday season, hoping the coming year exceeds your expectations and brings you unending happiness. What do I want to see more of, Grant and Laura growing this channel but more important growing their farm and family together with love and happiness.
Hahaha Laura when you got back in the trailer from putting the engine on the trailer you could tell your face was cold........You had that cold face talk!!!!!
Farming is not so much a job as it is away of life. As such you will be learning continuously. Embracing the need to learn new things and improve on existing skills is a healthy (indeed necessary) mindset. Over the years you and Grant will acquire something else, at least as valuable as experience-Judgement. Wishing you and those you love a safe, prosperous and happy 2023. Just some thoughts from an old farm boy…….
With such low temperatures it must make it hard to work on anything that is made of metal, I recommend WD40 on bolts it would make it easier removing and putting on nuts. I see you got on Grant's shoulders and not the other way around. 🤤 A farmer's work is never done, especially the start of the new year. I switched on my computer at 9am, your video was upload 6 hours ago. Happy New Year from Mike. ❤
Beautiful lady that carries pliers in her pocket.
Lucky man!
Sometimes you've just got to do what you have to do to get the job done. Thats farming in one sentence.

You call it "iron encouragement"; others sometimes call it "persuasion". Apply with care, especially when it's really cold and things become brittle.

👍yes I read that far into the description also.
Good job, take care, and stay reasonably safe.
I HOPE 2023, IS A GREAT YEAR FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
We refer to a hammer as a persuader. Sometimes you need a big persuader sometimes a small persuader will work.
Wishing you both a happy, safe and successful 2023. Really looking forward to joining you throughout the year! 😉
Happy 2023 farming season and God bless everyone!
Laura you are one tough lady. Always so bubbly.
God Bless you on your farming life.I know it's tough now with everything you do being so expensive.
