Hood is a heavily modified Battlecruiser, in fact her deck should have been able to stop Bismarck's shell. There is a good theory that Bismarck struck hood below the armour belt. I believe Oceanliner Designs also touched into how why Hood detonated.

Keep this music and scenes because it is actually the best hood vs Bismarck video I've seen. The music fits so neatly with the video! One more thing is you should make the explosions much larger. And also can you like change the tone of the Bismarck firing? Because it sounds really weak. There is a video of the real footage. Take sound from that one... Your minecraft movie is of the same standard as or even better than any other World War 2 navy combat Hollywood Movie. The ships appeared in the scene are mostly historically correct. HMS Prince Of Wale was heavily or moderately damaged by KMS Bismarck and had to retreat using smoke screen. However, owing to the damage caused by HMS Prince Of Wale shells, KMS Bismarck was constantly leaking oil and prompted the battleship to separate from the KMS Prince Eugen heavy cruiser. Bismarck, while sailing to a captured France navy port for repair, was under British naval aircrafts (Swordfish torpedo bomber) attack for about 2 times. The second air attack resulted in rudder jamming which later sealed Bismarck fate by causing it to sail in a circle continuously. The 2 British battleships which later relentlessly bombarbed KMS Bismarck were HMS King George V and HMS Rodney. Other British heavy cruisers, light cruisers and destroyers also joined the battle by bombarbment and torpedo attack. The german heavy cruiser KMS Prince Eugen did survive and later return to a captured French navy port where 2 german battleships, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, were located. The 3 capital ships would later participated in Operation Channel Dash during which all three ships successfully passed through the English Channel to arrive at Germany despite British air, shore battery and destroyer attack.

Its reckoned the shell landed below the waterline and caused a buildup of pressure belowdecks which reached, I wanna say Y turret (British turret naming be like) hense the explosion but what can be said is that a lot of luck was involved in that shot.
