The Future of Gigs? Using Patt 2017s to Light a Live Stream Show
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лис 2020
- I'm back in Los Angeles with some familiar faces to do my first real travel gig since the entire events industry came to a screeching halt in March. Things are slowly picking back up and I'm lucky enough to have a few gigs like this one, so I thought I'd bring you along for the ride!
After a few years of traveling every single week for events, the last 9 months of the shutdown have truly tested me. I know many of you out there feel the same way. It's hard to work for years and years on something you love to have it all fade into nothing for the unforeseeable future. Thankfully, things will turn around even if we can't be sure when. This gig revived my spirit and reminded me why we love this job.
Special thanks to Felix Lighting and Ryan Herrera for getting us the gear we needed to do this show properly - if you need lighting gear in California, make sure to add them to your list of contacts! www.felixlighting.com/

Felt so good to be back doing what I love in the “real world” for a change. Thanks for watching and special thank you to my Patreon crew for helping me review this video before it hit UA-cam to check it for errors and give me feedback ❤️
Did my first show on MA on Wednesday thanks for your beginner video I watched it like 4 times.🤣
Glad to help
For me this was like a calming video for whatever reason. Can’t wait to get a show
Super-professional attitude, as always.
I'm at home, in lockdown, programming cues and not likely to gig until at least February, so it's good to see some guys still managing to get out there and do their stuff, however limited.
Peace.
I’ve been ready for a video!
Thanks for the Livestream lighting tips!
Nice too see you back!
I really enjoyed how the video was made with the explanation on the stage, the fixture and 3D views ...
Hope to see more like that ;)
So glad you're back!!!!
Yay! Hope you are doing well Christian!
I Love your videos and all the shows you work on, you make me change my dream from being a musician to being an LD, Greetings from Honduras!!🙌
Thanks Christian for explaining the rig in such detail that's what I think of every time nice to hear the reasons for fixtures being used other than looks good 😁
19:23 Elation 5r go brrrr
Finaly some gig videos from you again😀
Super great to see gigs coming back for ya, over in Australia we’re still pretty screwed but I’m slowly getting a couple jobs again now
Hello from BRAZIL. Congratulations on your work and if God wants us soon we'll all be back to do what we love the most.A big hug to all the Illuminators of the world. Stay with God and take care always

Glad to see you back at a gig again bud
Congratulation Christian Jackson is Back
Your videos are so good
And yes I love stage lighting
I am also 12
Nice job bro
This are the kind of shows that I relate to, mid to low tear venues, limited budget compare to the vision of the show, have to use some personal favors from rental companie/retail to acomodate to budget, last minute changes and suggestions to acomodate, etc. Those are the gigs I'm really used to. This are the gigs that show who has experenence and who's faking it.
Come to New Zealand, we are back into live events here lol
Done a gig at Belasco. Helen is a legend!!
😍🥰
Looked really awsome, good balance between all the elements, nice smooth front wash too even with that short arc lamp source. Lighting for camera is truly a whole different animal and a lot of clients and artist's don't get that.
I'm looking forward to when stage LDs figure out how having LED fixtures with high CRI ratings will impact the look of their live-streamed shows.
I would have killed to have the budget for a proper downstage truss of Encores :( Hard to do when half of the budget is spent on a console rental.
@@christianjackson It still looked excellent much better than my last on camera lighting work XD Wish I had the budget for you 😃
Thanks for your videos. I learn a lot new from them. Great channel) I am also a lighting designer, I work at Kyiv National Operetta Theater, Ukraine
Thank you for watching :) I wish one day to visit Kyiv
I’m sorry but I’m jealous of other ppl getting gigs rn, I can’t wait to hopefully get back to gigs in the spring in Chicago!
Thanks Christian, nice video. In my opinion when lighting for camera it's important also to consider the color rendering index of the lights used (CRI), particularly on FOH, and I try to provide a soft lighting look whenever possible. For example in your rig I would have considered moving the sunstrips downstage, pointing up, as foot lights. Just a personal taste, thanks for the video.
That was something I considered as well :) We ended up going this way so our steadicam op and talent could walk down the stairs at the front of the stage
Second this about the CRI of stage fixtures. I have a feeling stage LDs will be having to know the difference of low and high CRI rated lights in the near live-streamed future.
Haha i hated doing finger pricks and then i got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes so I had to get used to it! Not so bad
Jooo thats justin :3 I Love him so much... meet him one time :3
Robaaay
Hi, do you think, you could make a video about Resolume Arena?
I heard that you are a Messi of the profesional lighting!! Milton de la Cruz
I know how to use a grandma2 and that’s about it
Do you have any advice for my first lights software/ console to learn? I know ma2/ma3 is very good but I think it's a little out of my budget. Keep up the good work, I'm loving your content, always makes my day better ❤️❤️.
Avolites is alright and reasonably cheap. Can get a USB solution for c£150 last I checked. But nothing compares to a MA desk
(Reference: used Hog, Avolites and MA2 - MA2 light and onPC command wings as standard)
Probably MA even though it's more expensive its everywhere
It all depends on use purpose. If you're lighting stuff at home or a house party you could learn the fundamentals in free software like QLC then transition into the free universe in Dot2 to get closer to MA programming. All will output artnet which you can buy fairly cheap.
Could you not use Haze at all? Great video, love all your work btw :)
Decision from above me :)
@@christianjackson Fair enough, still looked awesome!
Love these videos! Does anybody know the song he used multiple times in this video?
They come from a subscription service I use for royalty free music. Song is cushy - keep to myself
How much does an LED panel setup like that cost?
Ayyy first
Need a recommendation for winter tires. Know of anything? Thanks in advance.
I would definitely avoid Blizzaks at all costs.
hey christian!
Hi mom
hi christian i have a question at the moment i try something on my pc with grand MA3 on pc software but i cant download the 3D vieuw how do you do that?
Hey whay software were you using for your truss plots and visualization in this video?
Capture 2020.
22:26 is that a hog4 at FOH?!
s/o Ryan Herrera
I hope live streams are not gonna be the new standard.
Will probably be the case for a while, but not forever.
Live events will get back to normal at some point. I don't know how the US is doing but for the UK, live events at the earliest may start back up in the second half of next year. There's a live performance in Inverness which is actually a concert this month.
Truss issues :D
In what 3d program you work?
Capture 23
I like your video very much. It is helpful to me but my English is very poor.
What that aplication?

Hey Christian,
What happend to your Intagram and Twitter Account? I cant find it any more ..
Christian Jackson
Hi buddy, can you add Chinese subtitles
the rules for sporting equipment are better and a much wide loophole.
*l a m p*
What happened to your twitter and instagram?
Are you hiring? There's so much gatekeeping in this industry that it makes it so difficult for someone to learn.
Not at the moment, sorry. I’m a one man show. Hoping to change that in the future, but for now I’m sorry I can’t help
these virtual shows are unbelievably Beyond lame
Definitely nowhere near as fun :/
@@christianjackson I will tell you, when this craziness is over, I'm reaching out to you asap. You're like the Michael Jordan of lighting. We own thefestivalinthesuburbs.com and locccon.com and fest5six78.com. Would love to chat later in the year when we know what's going on. - Aulando
