One of the oldest gambits in magazine publishing is to make the stupid list and then intentionally leave names off to generate controversy.
You should be on there !!! 🤘
Let’s just expand the list so everyone gets on the list.
The craziest one they left off in my opinion were Mustaine, Friedman and Buckethead
The future of the guitar is bright, the future of Rolling Stone on the other hand......
Al Di Meola, Alan Holdsworth, George Benson, Paco de Lucia... they left so many great players off that you could probably make a better list from people that they didn't name. I've not read the list, but judging from who isn't on it, they must be crazy.
robben ford, johnny winter, gary moore, john scofield, scott henderson, marty friedman, and the list goes on. that list is a fucking joke to make us all go crazy.
I feel like these magazines should just take a poll of the fans that listen to the musicians and let them decide.. like a fan-picked sort of deal. By the fans for the fans, y’know. Cuz magazine editors, some of them do their research, but some do not. And unfortunately, some may not even be closely involved in the music scene.
Rolling Stone know exactly what they’re doing, that is to get people to talk about Rolling Stone. They’re no longer relevant to the music industry so they’ve become controversial. Either way it gets people talking about them.
What do you think about Michael Schenker being left off the list?
Terry Kath is the omission that blows my mind but he is not the only one.
hall of fame a joke. mag a joke. saw where they listed 100 greatest had alex lifeson at 98 now he is listed at 58; gee he sure has improved. he said in an interview how much he admired rory gallagher who is at 174.doubt he cares if he is listed at all.
I understand why Buckethead is not on list- because he is not of this world, Also Guthrie Govan, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane and many more, Maybe i make my own list with only guitar players that are awesome , Universal Players.
Most likely the list was done by people probably bunch of hipster who despise Guitar world magazine just like they hate Republicans...
