I love hearing different rankings. I like seeing differing opinions. I'm in absolute shock that Revenge is that low, while Unmasked and Crazy Nights are that high. But hey, that's why I like this stuff.
I wanted to hate I was for loving you . But that guitar riff over that groove was really cool. It made a disco song Rock and Roll. It’s just a fun track . When your in a bad mood just play it and it’s hard to not smile.

I've always loved Paul's songs on Animalize but Genes have kinda grown on me... either way I always thought Animalize was a unique sounding album and a fairly aggressive one, always dug it for sure!
Although my lost would look different, I appreciate your honesty. So many lists are the same. It's nice to see someone just judging them in the order they truly enjoy. And not solely on perceived notions.

A GREAT Ranking Sir! Nicely picked. Their early albums up to Love Gun are kind of slow and unenergetic, but perfected upon in the 2 first LIVE albums for sure, which are my 2 MAIN Faves! LoveGun is the last of the good original KISS albums. Animalize is a GREAT Underrated album! I Love it!. Hotter Than Hell is the first studeo album that I got as a child as is Timeless for me and the best of the original lineup, IMHO!

I totally disagree on the solo albums. Aces album I think is over rated. Most of the songs sound unfinished to me . The cord changes don’t sound like they go together and the songs don’t flow very well. The riffs sound cool and the concepts for the songs are great . Would have been great songs if they were recorded in KISS. I’m a little different . I actually like most of the songs on Genes album.
I mean I like Dynasty better personally, but the debut and the Elder could Easy flip around next time I make the list, I do love both albums even though I rank the debut lower than most people
I disagree. Everything is subjective. I think the musical identity of KISS (the band) has changed so much. Also the original KISS album is very uneven. Black Diamond, Deuce, Cold Gin & 100,000 years on the same album as Love Theme from KISS, Nothing to Lose & Kissin' Time?!! And all the heavier tunes are ultimately better on Alive! One additional point, fans who are introduced to the band later, have a VERY different idea what defines a 'quintessential' KISS album.
@Hitogify agreed, his list isn't the right list, but it's his list. As Sean Chandler says in his movie rankings. I was born in the 80s, my dad had me listening to kiss from a very young age but over all I hold the 80s in a higher regard than most people. Though I can straight up admit that my favorite as of now (working through the Discography again) is a 70s album.
I agree! For me Hotter than Hell has be be considered for #1. Lucky we had alive and it was the best of the first 3 albums. It’s easily their best album if you include live albums in the list.
It's hard to say, despite being a KISS fan, I'm actually not a big Live album person, though KISS has alot of my favorite live albums. MTV unplugged is actually my favorite followed by Alive... they'd probably be somewhere mid pack... Alive II a little below them
Wow---not trying to be harsh, and all "favorite" lists are subjective---but not having their debut or Rock & Roll Over in the top 10? The Elder ahead of both? Just....wow. No offense, I'm just really surprised. You definitely aren't afraid to part company with the majority. I also rate Dressed To Kill and Hotter Than Hell pretty high. You do reference the poor production on the latter---but you use that same criteria to rate the debut at 13. Whatever, it's your list, but I really don't get it. FWIW Rock & Roll Over has long been my favorite, going back a couple decades. It's got the rawness and attitude of their first three, but with excellent production thanks to Eddie Kramer. It's kinda like what they would have liked the first three to sound like. The Elder ahead of it??? WOW. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I think the muddy production on Hotter Than Hell works for that batch of songs more than the production on the debut works for those songs. That being said even though I have the debut outside the top Ten doesn't mean I don't like it, in reality I like every KISS album, even Revenge which I considered my least favorite. And yes, on alot of my lists I do not agree with the majority!
@@themindseyecmh I will say that, as a guitarist, my favorite solo of Ace's is the one in "Strange Ways" on HTH, no question. That and Parasite are two of my faves from Ace. However, DTK is my favorite of their first three, overall, and not necessarily because of Rock & Roll All Night. "Love Her All I Can" has another of Ace's best solos IMO.

@@themindseyecmh something I do tend to forget/overlook on RARO is that there isn't a single song written by Ace, although his guitar sound and playing kicks ass throughout. For all ll know he wasn't contributing many (good) songs during that period. He was reportedly MIA quite a bit during the recording of Destroyer (none by him on that album, either), and consequently he's not even playing on many of those songs. However, his playing certainly shines on RARO. Even though Love Gun does have contributions from all 4 guys, I actually like Destroyer and RARO better. I do agree that "Great Expectations" is the low point, for both albums IMO. However, I think all the other songs on Destroyer, and everything on RARO, is solid. I do agree that Destroyer was atypical of their "real" sound, but it's still so iconic, atmospheric, and larger-than-life sounding. This is my opinion, but shared by others: RARO was a return to the organic, raw, and "real " Kiss sound---and with much better production than their first three. I thought that Love Gun started moving away from what they did best again, mainly in terms of production, sounding somewhat over-produced and over-layered, at least for Kiss. They were not Queen in that regard, and it just sounded forced to some degree. I agree about Gene's contributions being weaker, and Plaster Caster being his best on that album. To me, Love Gun wasn't as consistent as the previous two, largely due to Gene's songs. And regardless of Christine Sixteen being the moderately successful single, it's never been a favorite of mine. Keep in mind that my very first rock concert, and first concert my parents didn't take me to (make me go to), was Kiss on 11/30/77. I was 14, absolutely worshipped them, and that was their Love Gun tour. I didn't love Christine Sixteen then, either. 😉
I pretend peters solo album exists only for the artwork. You have gone mad! Revenge at the bottom I put it at 8, after the 70’s studio albums. Hot in the shade and carnival of souls are really bad. Sonic boom is bad.
I was so excited and ready to dive into enjoying your video but when you got to Psycho Circus and started using words like hate when talking about Kiss songs and criticizing the songs on the other albums and brutally ripping on the albums in a way in my opinion as a fan since 1976 just doesn't sit well with me. I enjoy all 20 studio albums and you started off saying you did too. Rank them any way you want is fine but the extra punches you took at the tracks you didn't like. Hate for a Kiss songs I can't get down with. I watched and gave the whole video a chance but your style and presentation and views don't care for. Loved your respect for Monster though. You do you bro. I'm nobody anyway....my opinion doesn't matter... I liKe Asylum too.
I'm sorry you didn't care for my presentation, and if you liked the songs I was harsh on, that's great, it's not my wish to dislike any KISS song, but there are a few I can't stand. Over all, yes, I do like every KISS album even though a few of them have songs I don't like. If I ripped too hard on the album's at the bottom of my list it's more or less to explain why I rank them low, I didn't mean to come across as harsh on them. As much as I like Ace and Paul's solo albums, they both sound like they needed the other members of the band to me
No way Dynasty or The Elder is better than their debut album.

I mean I like Dynasty better personally, but the debut and the Elder could Easy flip around next time I make the list, I do love both albums even though I rank the debut lower than most people
I disagree. Everything is subjective. I think the musical identity of KISS (the band) has changed so much. Also the original KISS album is very uneven. Black Diamond, Deuce, Cold Gin & 100,000 years on the same album as Love Theme from KISS, Nothing to Lose & Kissin' Time?!! And all the heavier tunes are ultimately better on Alive!
One additional point, fans who are introduced to the band later, have a VERY different idea what defines a 'quintessential' KISS album.
@Hitogify agreed, his list isn't the right list, but it's his list. As Sean Chandler says in his movie rankings. I was born in the 80s, my dad had me listening to kiss from a very young age but over all I hold the 80s in a higher regard than most people. Though I can straight up admit that my favorite as of now (working through the Discography again) is a 70s album.
I agree! For me Hotter than Hell has be be considered for #1. Lucky we had alive and it was the best of the first 3 albums. It’s easily their best album if you include live albums in the list.
I love uh all night! It didn’t stand out to me when it first came out. But it eventually grew on me and I love the opening riff.

It's hard to say, despite being a KISS fan, I'm actually not a big Live album person, though KISS has alot of my favorite live albums. MTV unplugged is actually my favorite followed by Alive... they'd probably be somewhere mid pack... Alive II a little below them
Wow---not trying to be harsh, and all "favorite" lists are subjective---but not having their debut or Rock & Roll Over in the top 10? The Elder ahead of both? Just....wow. No offense, I'm just really surprised. You definitely aren't afraid to part company with the majority. I also rate Dressed To Kill and Hotter Than Hell pretty high. You do reference the poor production on the latter---but you use that same criteria to rate the debut at 13. Whatever, it's your list, but I really don't get it. FWIW Rock & Roll Over has long been my favorite, going back a couple decades. It's got the rawness and attitude of their first three, but with excellent production thanks to Eddie Kramer. It's kinda like what they would have liked the first three to sound like.

I think the muddy production on Hotter Than Hell works for that batch of songs more than the production on the debut works for those songs. That being said even though I have the debut outside the top Ten doesn't mean I don't like it, in reality I like every KISS album, even Revenge which I considered my least favorite.
And yes, on alot of my lists I do not agree with the majority!
@@themindseyecmh I will say that, as a guitarist, my favorite solo of Ace's is the one in "Strange Ways" on HTH, no question. That and Parasite are two of my faves from Ace. However, DTK is my favorite of their first three, overall, and not necessarily because of Rock & Roll All Night. "Love Her All I Can" has another of Ace's best solos IMO.

@@themindseyecmh something I do tend to forget/overlook on RARO is that there isn't a single song written by Ace, although his guitar sound and playing kicks ass throughout. For all ll know he wasn't contributing many (good) songs during that period. He was reportedly MIA quite a bit during the recording of Destroyer (none by him on that album, either), and consequently he's not even playing on many of those songs. However, his playing certainly shines on RARO. Even though Love Gun does have contributions from all 4 guys, I actually like Destroyer and RARO better. I do agree that "Great Expectations" is the low point, for both albums IMO. However, I think all the other songs on Destroyer, and everything on RARO, is solid. I do agree that Destroyer was atypical of their "real" sound, but it's still so iconic, atmospheric, and larger-than-life sounding. This is my opinion, but shared by others: RARO was a return to the organic, raw, and "real " Kiss sound---and with much better production than their first three. I thought that Love Gun started moving away from what they did best again, mainly in terms of production, sounding somewhat over-produced and over-layered, at least for Kiss. They were not Queen in that regard, and it just sounded forced to some degree. I agree about Gene's contributions being weaker, and Plaster Caster being his best on that album. To me, Love Gun wasn't as consistent as the previous two, largely due to Gene's songs. And regardless of Christine Sixteen being the moderately successful single, it's never been a favorite of mine. Keep in mind that my very first rock concert, and first concert my parents didn't take me to (make me go to), was Kiss on 11/30/77. I was 14, absolutely worshipped them, and that was their Love Gun tour. I didn't love Christine Sixteen then, either. 😉

I pretend peters solo album exists only for the artwork. You have gone mad! Revenge at the bottom I put it at 8, after the 70’s studio albums. Hot in the shade and carnival of souls are really bad. Sonic boom is bad.
I was so excited and ready to dive into enjoying your video but when you got to Psycho Circus and started using words like hate when talking about Kiss songs and criticizing the songs on the other albums and brutally ripping on the albums in a way in my opinion as a fan since 1976 just doesn't sit well with me. I enjoy all 20 studio albums and you started off saying you did too. Rank them any way you want is fine but the extra punches you took at the tracks you didn't like. Hate for a Kiss songs I can't get down with. I watched and gave the whole video a chance but your style and presentation and views don't care for. Loved your respect for Monster though. You do you bro. I'm nobody anyway....my opinion doesn't matter... I liKe Asylum too.
I'm sorry you didn't care for my presentation, and if you liked the songs I was harsh on, that's great, it's not my wish to dislike any KISS song, but there are a few I can't stand. Over all, yes, I do like every KISS album even though a few of them have songs I don't like.
If I ripped too hard on the album's at the bottom of my list it's more or less to explain why I rank them low, I didn't mean to come across as harsh on them.
