    Oh Karen you do make me laugh out loud . David was a minimalist before it was popular! As his mom I’ve had the odd comment about how lucky you are to be living this lifestyle . All I can say is I saw first hand how you two fitted together when I first stayed with you. Both working stupid hours it was like a military operation each day and time spent together was little and precious. But it was , as you say, team work and like two sides of the same coin coming together. Fair to say my son has found his perfect match.

    Never let people outside your marriage, friends, family, acquaintances, colleagues, and so on, ever....ever...ever impact or infect your relationship with your spouse. Whatever you and your spouse decide a relationship or marriage will be is of concern only between you two.
    My wife is from Mexico and I am from the US and we have had numerous people try to set expectations of our marriage, make assumptions of us, and other negative perspectives. Ignore those people and focus on what you two want your relationship to be.

    Most women in America prefer to marry up. A business woman, professional, educated, seek to marry someone who is in the same or higher position, economic position, than themselves. Rarely do you hear of a sucessful woman marrying beneath her position, regardless of race of the woman. People should realize there are Mexican women who are professionals: Businesswomen, Doctors, Lawyers Engineers, Scientists, etc. Strange these people would exclude Mexican women. A lack of education, understanding would explain such backward ideas and concepts. Nevertheless you have the right to marry whoever you like, just like any other woman.Remember: you are marrying for your happiness and the happiness of your partner not the happiness of others.

  • @chi11estpanda
    @chi11estpanda 3 роки тому +16

    I actually clicked on it just to see what you had to say. But, I'm also new to your channel so I had no idea you were married until I saw this video, I just found you from your "Why do some Mexicans look Asian?" video and after hearing your intro on this video, I was a bit perturbed and wanted to write this comment, but then as I listened to more of your story, it started to _hit close to home_ and actually reminded me a lot of my own past with my now ex-wife. By the end of your video, it helped me learn a lot about maybe how she thought regarding keeping up a social image as she was an immigrant who came to the US as a student and after we got married, she gained permanent resident status and was able to stay in the US.
    She would always explain how she didn't want to live in Japan, and so it made me feel like she only wanted to get married for a green card. And, on occasion, she would mention being upset when someone assumed that fact about her but it was rare. Now, in hindsight and after watching your video, maybe she dealt with it a lot more then she wanted to admit or that I realized and perhaps kept quiet out of fear for reminding me of this idea.
    But in any case, your video also helped me discover and recognize the differences between our (my former wife and I's) relationship formed so much differently than you and your husband's did, even though I feel like we endured a lot of the same hardships and struggles (especially financially speaking and needing to support one another) it would seem more simply as if yours grew out of love while maybe ours didn't. I won't get into all that now but just wanted to thank you for sharing your story. It was moving for me, so I just wanted to let you know I appreciate you for not only going through the trouble of making this video, but also for your willingness and courageousness in being open about your past life and sharing it with us on UA-cam. So, thank you.
    Wishing you all the best,

      Sometimes people do not understand that young foreigners are not rich, why? Because they don't see school is very expensive in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, etc (all develop countries) that means that they either work and study, or have to get a loan, or their parents help them and they have to pay back but usually they take a loan.
      All young marriages will start from 0, at least in the common world. We all start from nothing and have nothing (or very very little).
      Beside women we will have disadvantages in Mexico, because they don't value us the same way as they do with men. We get pregnant, and that's very hard to cope with work. Other counties provide maternity and paternity leave. From your comment that he got another job offer in China and you had to quite your job in Mexico that's what is going to be hard for you each time as a woman. We women don't have that luxury as he does.
      3:50 please explain what is a Godin.
      Another huge diffence is that in develop countries you can study another career no matter how old you are but in Mexico the race is going and a none stop.
      4:36 Is this small town Mixquiahuala Hidalgo? As in your other video? I almost cried when I saw the words of that town, amazing childhood memories. 😭
      6:50 those moments at the moments where a marriage faces hard times and how they overcome them. I'm sure that for him was either and eye opening to know he shared a responsibility in the relationship and not only being asked to do it all by himself.
      7:45 I know you said he didn't have so much clothes but usually I have seen that some foreign guys who study hard and know the value of money they don't buy brand name clothing or focus on appearances. He seems a guy who would rather spend his money on traveling and learning about other cultures, study, than on material stuff. And I see why he chose you, becuase you are a woman that works hard and don't easily get down.
      8:27 someone else hearing this might comment bad about him but I don't see the point of a ring. A ring to me means nothing and to be sincere I will be scared in Mexico wearing something valuable. My husband doesn't feel comfortable wearing things like necklace, bracelets or rings so I don't mind. At the end my 20 years of marriage back us up regardless of what people think or see.

My wife who, when we were dating, often earned more than I did, became a housewife when I started my international career and we had our children. Looking back, I'd never swap "jobs" with her as she worked much harder than I did in her role as a mum and wife. I'm now retired and am so glad I have the best partner and friend by my side. I hope you get to be as happy as we are. Do remember the saying, "the harder I work, the luckier I get" applies. Inter-racial/international marriages or partnerships are becoming more common. Your story is similar to my parents. English father and mother from Mexico city. I was born and raised in Canada. I very much enjoy your videos, they are heartfelt and interesting. It appears that having a successful career is still difficult in Mexico. Have you considered relocating to Canada or USA?

    That's weird that I came across this channel. These days, I've been considering teaching in either Vietnam or Mexico. You and your husband have been in both places. Great video. An old Biblical saying: "Judge not less thou be judged". Yes your story surprised me, as I have been and am presently married (though separated 4 1/2 years) with 2 different Mexican women. One left me when I needed the most even though I brought her here illegally, and the 2nd used me (lied) just to get her residence, and once she got it left me and live miles away with both (unmarried) adult sons. So be it. YOU young lady have done well, and it is GREAT to hear how you also support your husband in ALL! You are a very rare precious jewel that is next to IMPOSSIBLE to find and treasure. DO NOT aloow even comments to affect you nor your marriage, you give it strength through your loving, understanding and as a team you will be stronger in the bad/hard times. May you and your husband be blessed daily

    As a Mexican independent woman living in Guadalajara, I have never felt like I need to dress to impress. Often, my manager will ask me to dress up for important eventos to which I comply to avoid conflicts in the workplace.... I wear my clothes and shoes for years so I try to Buy good quality, durable ítems. People here struggle so much trying to keep up a wealth appearance, although they live from Paycheck to Paycheck, it's Paty of our culture, I wish It would change...because It is stressful and you come across as a shallow, materialistic person...

    I appreciate all that you have told us and I have to say that (I love your videos!) that this particular video wasn't necessary. Some people always have to critique others, and I believe it is because they are jealous, are not watching all of your videos, or whatever. You do not owe them an explanation. Ever. You are very forthcoming when it comes to expenses and other things, you are allowed to keep some things to yourself and this is one of them. Let the trolls think what they want; you and Dave know the truth, and that is all that matters.

    Let me just say that the life of a “kept woman” is NOT what it seems like. Most “kept” women are SAHM’s (which that on its own is like multiple full-time jobs 🙃) and the majority must adhere to a very limited household budget. I guess the media puts so much focus on the life of wealthy SAH wives that suddenly all of them must live a life of riches. So what if you didn’t work and had the means to travel? It’s YOUR life and the haters should get one.
    Btw yellow really suits you! Greetings from California 🇺🇸

  • @andresvillarreal9271
    @andresvillarreal9271 3 роки тому

    The "kept woman" (or man) term stresses me out. It does not just convey the economic aspect, it also means that one of the individuals in the couple does not even want to as much as possible for the couple or the family. In my book, the one who is looking for a job, or in some way working for the benefit of the family, even if not earning money, is not "kept". But in our "machista" societies, we still see some women who live to be "trophy wives", and men who live to have one. And the opposite must happen a lot, but will only happen in secret.

    Creo serìa muy interesante hicieras videos en nahiatl, porque serìa muy motivante para toda la gente de Mèxico que conserva su etnicidad pura como tu, ademàs genera màs simpatìa que escucharte en inglès. Puedo entender perfectamente el idioma, pero mi consejo es que hiceras en nahuatl o tambièn en castellano, al fin se relaciona el idioma a todo grupo etnico en Mèxico, por la influencia de España, no asì el inglès, que sin ànimo de criticar, puede percibirse pretencioso, màximo si los tìtulos mismos son en español.

    • @LaKarencitaMX
      @LaKarencitaMX  3 роки тому

      Pero tendría que aprender Nahuatl primero y eso me llevará tiempo eh. 🤷🏽
      Por lo que leo, no eres de México y comprendo que hay cosas que desconoces. Pero tienes que saber que hay mucha gente en México que no está mezclada y no significa que hablen Nahuatl.
      Muchos solo hablan castellano y muchos hablan alguno de los 67 idiomas indígenas que existen en México.
      Los títulos te aparecen en español porque mi esposo y yo trabajamos en traducir el video a español. ¿Por qué? Porque es mi idioma natal y vale la pena tomar más tiempo en traducir todo para que lo vea más gente. Siempre espero que les guste mucho a todos.

      @@LaKarencitaMX Creo que si los vas a hacer en inglès con subtìtulos en español, lo màs adecuado serìa que los tìtulos de los videos estuvieran tambièn en inglès, es un doble discurso, es un mensaje ambiguo y confuso para el espectador. Si ves tìtulo en español esperas ver un video hablado en español, si ves un tìtulo en inglès esperas ver un video hablado en inglès, solo como una observaciòn constructiva. Saludos.

    There is a replusive joke in the Philippines everytime a group of desperados and desperadas see a Filipina with strong Malay traits accompanying a foreigner, especially white : "Isa na naman po nating kababayan ang umahon sa kahirapan", which means "we have another fellow countryman who got lifted from poverty". This remark needs to stop and people should just keep their lowbrow opinions to themselves. They jump into conclusions without knowing the couples. Yes there are Filipinas who marry for money and status and that should be none of anyone's business. The only thing I find bad is when a Filipina tricks the foreigner and grab all their savings, leaving them impoverished. But that is rare and most Filipinas who get to marry a foreign man are those who actually finished a degree, ended up working overseas and found a mate there. People should learn to know they are hurting some and they need to correct their faulty assumptions.
