      Of course, the country has always been run by public school privately educated kiddies. Some one leaves school with a degree in anything and is taken on by local authorities and civil service because it saves them thinking. After all, all you need to get a degree is a super memory, not common sense or experience in anything. If that is not true why are there so many mess-ups in the local authorities and the civil service. Come to Kent to see the mess ups on the white lines, especially the new road markings into new estates. Every time markings are put down they repeat previous mistakes and have to alter them again and again.

      @@bbcisrubbishits because this country is progressing backwards and is governed by rules and regulations and not by common sense many of us have and what every new generation seems to have less and less of. I blame a lot on the American disease, sue for anything and everything to the point everyone is afraid to do anything, and technology that has made more people lazy and unable to think for themselves. If we were in a situation like the second world war we would be invaded and conquered before everyone had finished their safety and risk assessments, then probably be told it was too much of risk as someone was likely to get hurt. Its shameful how this country has gone downhill from when I believe new labour got it. Its a disgrace.

    The crazy thing in Wales is there are arterial roads (B roads) through town & villages that are now 20mph, you can turn off into a single track lane with passing places that are still open speed limit (60mph), no one in their right mind would attempt to drive at 60mph along such a lane but it just goes to show it’s all about control of the population not safety.

I'm sure they would have put the matter to a referendum if they had not already known that they would lose it.

    If a person gets 300 points they get a free gallon of petrol, but if within that 300, they take out 10 politicians then get free petrol/diesel for a year.
    Driving through an illegal migrate camp and wiping out 300 migrates gets you a weeks all expenses paid holiday in Wales where you can aim for certain Welsh MPs to gain extra points that go towards a holiday in NI or Scotland.

    When I was young I was taught that roads were for cars and pavements were for pedestrians. I was also taught that before crossing the road I had to watch for cars because they had right of way on the road. It was a simple, logical, hierarchy that follows natural law where the smaller gives way to the larger. As a result, I've never been hit by anything when I've crossed the road.
    The current 'hierarchy' is completely upside down with various incorrect notions and ideas about safety. Back then kids knew that roads were dangerous and you didn't play on them because a car could suddenly appear, even if it was a very quiet road. Everywhere was 30 MPH and there were even a 40MPH dual carriageway outside a school I went to, yet was seldom a problem. Danger is natural and 'wrapping things up in cotton wool' has proven to either not improve anything or often make matters worse.

  • @BelisarioHRomo
    @BelisarioHRomo Рік тому +5

    Maintaining a speed of 20 miles per hour requires the driver to continuously apply both the brake and gas pedals. The problem arises when the speed hovers around 35-40 mph, with a margin of error of 5 to 10 miles per hour. This condition leads to increased gasoline consumption and at least a 70% rise in MP 2.5 particulate matter, as the brakes are constantly regulating this very narrow margin. Additionally, tire friction against the asphalt (the pushing carpet effect) generates more particulate matter. Increasing cost of infrastructure, maintenance and operation.
    Implementing a 20-mph speed limit in urban areas with closely spaced street crossings is stupid, regressive, counterproductive, and contradicts established traffic engineering norms. It perpetuates a state of constant acceleration and braking, diminishing the advantages of vehicles thus approaching the serious limitations of bicycles. At that speed it makes no sense to own an automobile…the result of which is catastrophic for human civilization since absolutely all and everything depends on mobility.
    Governments are imposing regressive measures on their citizens. Politicians often resort to taxation, punishment, and citizen abuse instead of providing solutions. Mobility is the backbone of the global economy; this should not be hard to grasp. Governments rely on oil-related taxes, yet they harm their own sources of revenue.
    The concept of an 'Unsustainable Mythic Green Transition' goes against the laws of physics, specifically the second law of thermodynamics, which states that true sustainability or net-zero is unattainable. To achieve sustainability, every single input, from individual components to entire systems, must also be sustainable without energy losses. Thermodynamics tells us that this is impossible - it's called 'entropy.
    Entropy is a thermodynamic measure representing the unavailability of a system's thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work. It is often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system. The second law of thermodynamics dictates that entropy always increases with time.

"Saving lives" he says, but doesn't mention the impact on health of slower cars who are pumping out more fumes particularly in built up areas.
    To slow a modern car you have to engage a lower gear which uses more fuel, creates more wear and tear on the engine, not to mention the fact that drivers are spending far too much time looking at their speedometers. Like the 50 MPH on the M4, it does nothing to reduce pollution, or safety, it simply creates havoc with the traffic flow.

    I am waiting for someone to mention that with the introduction of electric vehicles which are reported to have 30 to 50% extra mass than a comparable ICE car. Do the kinetic energy sums ie 1/2MV^2 they need to take speed down to ensure you are less likely to be seriously injured if hit. However no one wants to mention that in case it impacts the introduction of electric cars. Also reducing emissions yes there maybe less emissions if a exhaust gas analysis is done but the time taken will be longer and it is doing the same amount of work to take that mass from A to B. Then you hear the arguments oh the slower it is the safer it is. So there must be some sort of safety risk assessment available that weighs up risk against an adverse outcome that can be quantified. These are all well developed engineering design principles. That’s why we have ALARP so you can develop safe practices optimising adverse outcomes whilst undertaking any task. Instead we have politicians that develop policy based on social media statement they think are popular so they can virtual signal. Dear Sir, I live in the Sutton Surry area and we have a roundabout at Rose Hill, it has 6 roads coming into it. Years ago you entered in the normal way with this type of road junction by flowing in when there was adequate space to do so in a sensible manner. But several years ago traffic lights were installed at the road junctions and on the actual roundabout itself and from then on the traffic became snarled up so much so that at busier times it is actually grid locked, and this no doubt is producing inordinate amounts of pollution.
    However, twice I have approached this roundabout at rush hour only to find next to no traffic and the answer to this became clear on entering the roundabout, and that is there were no traffic lights working.
    So it is apparent to me that this along with chicanes where one car has to stop to let the other through, then slightly further on the reverse happens which means constant stopping and starting is deliberately generating pollution and adding to frustrated drivers who are then more libel to make mistakes.
