Another fantastic show, Karen! You have brought some sensible reason (as well as science/maths) into the process as well. I tend to go more by intuition (I would like to put it down to experience), but what you've done is to suggest another valuable set of inputs when making a decision as to how much to bid. I also have a confession to make. I have been trying to obtain DD origin pages from various artists as well (infinitely cheaper than from the original book!) and was responsible for skewing the price for the page in this particular auction. I was, in fact, prepared to go a little higher given that it was a fantastic Tim Sale piece and was based on a memorable page in the original Everett/Ditko issue. That is also what I meant in an earlier comment on another show that there are many other imponderables. Nostalgia is a big factor, as was the case here. I do apologize for bidding on this page as well as I suspect that you had bid on it as well (I hope that I am wrong though).
Thank you so much comicartboston! I'm so glad you liked the video. Congratulations on winning the Tim Sale DD page! I did not bid on that one (even though I LOVED that page) because I spent my entire budget on a few pieces that came up earlier in the auction.😁
@@KarensPages Dear Karen, I am so relieved to hear that! If there was any other person whom I would have loved to have had that page, it would have had to be you! I hope to post this page as well as another modern DD origin page from another artist in my CAF Gallery. Now you have the answer as to why it went higher! And many congratulations on your pieces!
Karen! Great video! So interesting to view your predictions and see what they go for! I look at the art you are featuring and end up agreeing with your prediction only to sometimes find out the end result and going " I did not expect that result". Keep posting these videos so I can watch them on the train! Regards David

G'day David! Thanks so much for checking out Karen's video. I'm really happy to know you enjoyed it. I don't wanna say "I told you so!", but....😉 Looking forward to the next Australian Monday holiday, but until then, thanks so much for all the support you give me on my channel. I really appreciate seeing you ever Sunday. See you again soon, but until then watch some more of Karen's videos.😁 Cheers, mate!
Thank you so much for your encouraging words, David! It's cool to hear that you watch my videos on the train! Hopefully they help pass the time quickly. 👍 I'll see you in Rubén's chat!
Great in-depth analysis Karen. You are correct...Data Points are helpful...also hard to predict human emotion. BTW, love the ASM 33 behind you...Ditko's best, and one of the best Spidey's ever.
You never know, on the Hush page, if you had bid, how high the other bidder would have been willing to go. That’s the crazy thing about trying to guess value…it only takes two motivated bidders to drive a price way up…
Wow, love the analysis! I have to say, your appreciation of Gene Colan art has made me reevaluate his works. I was never a huge fan, but now that I’ve started to look at it closely (I’m paying attention his Daredevil work) I’m actually very impressed. So dynamic and full of energy….reminds me a lot of Kirby in its kinetic feel.
Yes, I love the math 🤔...I did bid on a few of these. I was also happy that some of these are not blowing up. Folks want what they are missing in their collections with the market being down. So deals to be had with rare items. I like your review and analysis. I did notice this...less bidders. Example, I aimed for what I wanted with little resistance. But how much does one want to buy in one sitting if the next platinum will have some cool items as well? The Feds look like they will raise rates again. Higher borrowing rates for no cash purchases means less bidders.
Thank you! That's the constant challenge a collector faces. I thought I would slow down my purchasing after this last auction, but then a new piece just popped up that I REALLY want (sigh). I think in some cases there will be less bidders because of the economy and the chance to pick something up next time, but the few pieces that I bid on seemed to get a lot of action.
Thank you! I can't wait to do that unboxing video. Should be epic. 😁

Wow! Once again, you've outdone yourself with this latest video, Karen! Huge props to you for taking the time and effort to go into such depth with your analysis and continuing to show with each subsequent video that you are SOOOOO MUCH more than just a pretty face looking for clicks. Being naturally pretty is fine, of course, but in a male dominated hobby such as this, it's all the more important to draw in viewers with your greatest weapon: Intelligence! You've damn well already earned the respect that should be accorded to you in this hobby and on this platform. As Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "I have a dream that Karen P of Karen's Pages will one day live in a nation where she will NOT be judged solely by her outer beauty, but by the quality of her UA-cam content!". I am in awe of you, truly. Keep soaring, Karen! 🚀

@@KarensPages You're welcome, Karen. I love encouraging people who have untapped potential. You have that in spades and it was evident from the beginning. Since I was 12, not coincidentally the year I discovered my 1st LCS, I've constantly preached that people should focus less on "making money" and more on finding something to be passionate about, which, if you can find, is so much more fulfilling a pursuit. I'm really happy to hear you feel you may have found YOUR passion! ❤ Keep kicking ass, you forty something adult! 🤣 👍 🤓
Regarding Phantom Lady #21, these books that sell infrequently are difficult. According to GPAnlysis, the last sale on a 7.5 copy was back in September of 2019 for $7,250. So, your estimate seemed reasonable as many key books have recently receded to pre-COVID levels. The fact that it sold so low makes you wonder if it is a bit of an anomoly? Interestingly, there was a 5.5 that sold in April of this year for $2,280, so the 7.5 nearly doubled that price which seems in line. Maybe that April price kind of reset the market on the book? In any event, after the giddy COVID highs, I think the comic market is in a major funk. And I think a lot of collectors are simply worn out and a bit apathetic at this time. Nonetheless, the buyer appears to have obtained the book at a very good price. I have recently purchased a few books at very good prices -- well off their COVID highs. Great time to buy books in my opinion.
Thanks for the insightful comments! The data in that plot is from 2021 and beyond; I thought the 2019 sales data was a little too old to incorporate and I didn’t think sales would completely return to those prices. Also, the CGC census on GoCollect shows that a CGC 7.5 is among the highest grades for this book, only 3 are listed, and the only two copies that are higher were 9.2 and 9.6 (out of 29 universal copies). I was shocked at first that it seemed to be in “the flat,” but I agree with what you said - this seems like an anomaly and maybe a reset. I think that may be due to buyers being a little worn out like you said, with a falling market, and much less FOMO. 👍
that buffy cover was beautiful and way too much detail in it for it not to be on the higher side. The tomb of Dracula #1 was always a very desirable book even unslabbed. but the fact it is a 9.8 helps. there are a group of buyers out there that just want books 9.8 and above and will pay the extra for it. a little surprised with the kirby hulk even though it had one good hulk panel. That FF #3 is a real beauty first off it's the 3rd issue of the series. it has a lot going on in that is with the first ff car and uniforms plus the grade. everyone loves the FF and they are going to reboot it yet again.(that always gives it a little more juice) the colors are bold on it. not surprised on that one.I still try to fill my master comics run but they are getting very hard to find in vf or up. a good title that is still fairly cheap are the wonder woman titles and the sensation comics title. some great covers in that line.
I agree, MrRedjack. I thought the price paid on that Cagle cover was worth it, the Tomb of Dracula #1 was pretty strong, and the FF #3 was stunning. Although, I did like all four Hulk panels on that Kirby/Everett page. 😉 Hope you are doing well.
