Just posted episode 58 on Patreon. That episode might take the cake for the most shook I’ve been yet this series. Not that 57 went easy on me either...
"You deserve it, because even though they are trapped inside that stone, YOU still recognize them as people" Heinkel truly understood Alphonse's struggles. Al said way back that he appreciated the people around him because even though he is a suit of armor he is still seen as a person. It's what kept Alphonse going when he felt alone all those restless nights. He needed to hear that..and now he has a Philosopher Stone. This kid is gonna blow you away.
Armstrong fighting the physical manifestation of sloth is an incredible point from you I never though of before. He’s fighting his greatest failing. Wonder what that says about mustang killing lust 🤔😳
if i was trapped in a philosophers stone and was somehow knew that the people responsible where near me and i had to give up my soul as energy i would def give it to Alphonse.
I would have liked it if Alphonse had insanely strong alchemical powers due to the souls willingly giving him the power. It would have been interesting to see Kimblee confused as to how Alphonse is so much stronger than he is with the stone. Kimblee only has the power of the stone, Alphonse has the power of the stone AND he’s seen the truth.
I find it curious how Edward uses the Philosopher's Stone to get out of Gluttony's stomach, he is forced to use it by circumstances and because Envy kept telling him that those souls were no longer human. While Alphonse also uses it for the circumstances and he is told that those are indeed human souls and that they have the will to fight.
Heinkel is definitely my favorite. I love all the chimera, but the just speech he gave puts him at the top for me. I believe that the ishvalans in the stone would want to fight to stop the people who caused their death, and to stop them from recreating the tragedy that happened to them to the people of Amestris as well.
I love how you've always noticed the intentional parallels between the homunculi and Ed's allies. Greed and Ling, Alex and Sloth, hell one can even argue Roy and Lust since Roy has cultivated a playboy image for himself.
Scar and bloodLust? (Many people think lust is a lot more about the bloodlust cause of her willingness to kill human sacrifices compared to other homunculi)... Roy and Wrath? Tons of parallels drawn between them as Roy looks to fuhrer + his interaction next 2 eps w/ Envy in revenge... not sure who I would pair with envy/gluttony/pride off the top of my head, but I'm sure it's there somewhere
@@CastSenpai I'd always thought it was Olivier Armstrong that was paired against Wrath, as the leader choosing what to do with indignation and frustration.
Heinkel is my favorite among the four chimera that tagged along with the group EXACTLY because of his moment in this episode. Because he makes such an excellent point that Alphonse and Ed both see the souls within a Philosopher's Stone as human despite everything. In my opinion, it kind of ties into the part back when Ed, Ling, and Envy escaped from Gluttony's fake portal of Truth and Ed hears/sees one of the souls that was used to pay the fee saying "thank you" before it uh... I suppose, passed on?
Heinkel's my favourite chimera by far. He beat the shit out of pride, got a really unique position as the person that stayed behind with Al, and came in clutch in the fight against pride and kimblee. Awesome speech too
Urgh this stretch of episodes is so good. The Armstrong team-up, Al with the Philosopher's Stone against Kimbley and Pride? I mean, come on! But also, I feel like this (just like she herself) gets neglected a lot, but can we talk about how great of a fighter Mei is? She was easily handling these zombies, breaking necks with a single kick and without even using Alkahestry! The girl is like 11, and already a master at Alkahestry, healing AND fighting, and at close combat. Savage!
I was a little bit conflicted too when I first watched the Heinkel scene, but right now is one of my favorite scenes of the show. I love the OST and Heinkel speech, also, Alphonse epic entrance is great!
The way I see it, the souls trapped inside the stones aren't going to become humans again, they're basically already dead and their souls are trapped. You can see using it as a way to release them, but I totally understand that Ed and Al would still have reservations about the idea of using it for themselves. There's something unpleasantly selfish about it. But for a good cause? To prevent people from doing pretty much the same thing that has trapped these souls in the first place? I think it's definitely acceptable. I agree it's presumptuous to think the souls would want to fight for revenge, but I think it's a moot point, because I think it's more about saving people than about revenge. I don't think many of these souls would disagree with the idea of saving people.
Heinkel is my favorite chimera for sure. He's done way too much for the team and managed to take down one of those on the homunculus' side. And also, his finger gun, of course lol.
The Philosopher’s Stone is a tool. Period. You can just have four finalities with it : - Use it without necessity, for yourself or a trivial purpose (Go back their bodies) - Use it for survival (Ed with Envy to go out from Gluttony’s stomach) - Use it for a greater good (Alphonse versus Pride and Kimblee) - Destroy it (Dr Marcoh with Envy’s stone) At the end, the will of souls is only a point of view for the user. The souls are in a tempest of suffering, they forgot who they are, if you don’t use them, they can continue to suffer. So the final using of the stone is just a matter of conscience. I could go further, but it would spoil, so I remain silent.
Do they really forget who they are, though? HH spoke with 500k+ individuals within him and learned their names, their stories, etc… Seems to disprove this idea. Though in general I think you are right here, it comes down to how someone wants to use them. But I stand by it being presumptuous to assume how the souls would feel about being used.
@@CastSenpai HH is a special case : we don’t know how long he took to speak with each soul. He shared a common history with them and knew some of them and the most important, his soul is a part of the stone. A living and moving stone. How long after the transformation in stone can we speak with them ? How long can they preserve their individuality and their sanity in a tempest of souls ? That’s the question. This stone is made of Ishvalans, so maybe they’re still aware. And it’s a stone, separated of any living entity. So it’s presumptuous to talk for others. But let be honest : if you made a survey with one hundred people and if you ask « if you have to sacrifice himself for your beloved ones, would you do it ? », the answer will be yes for the most part obviously.
Ah yeah to be clear I wasn’t really questioning if it was the right choice to make or not. Most people, myself included, would have used the stone. I more questioned the line of Heinkel telling Al what the souls would want, because ultimately, none of them knew.
in relation to what lion man heinkel had said about how he feels the souls inside the stone wanna fight to and you seeing it as presumptuous, think of using the stone as expending the energy of the souls trapped within and setting them free in a way almost remember what it looked like when greed was put into lings body? that storm of screaming souls? thats probably what its like inside every single philosophers stone
I think regardless of what the souls in the stone wanted Heinkel said what needed to be said in order to push Alphonse to fight back. You can call it selfish, but if you think about it, without the stone they have no chance of winning the fight and that in turn could cost more innocent lives.
A FMA merch that I've always wanted is the complete art book. There was also this fanmade tarot cards set. I don't think the artist sells it anymore, but oh it's so beautiful. (Maybe don't look them up yet though if you're interested, in case there are potential spoilers)
Omg, I know about the tarot cards. They are gorgeous. They were limited edition and the resellers want like over $500. So sad, would love to have them.
Heinkel is also my favourite for this reason and a one you will see an episodes time or two. Won't say what I am refering too even though I am sure you have passed that point. If you know you know.
I've always thought that when Heinkel says to Al that the souls would want to fight too, he does it mostly to persuade Al to using the stone. Al is a child after all so he could be making things up to get Al over his principles of not using the stone (saying that Al wouldn't be using it on himself but for the greater good to save the world.) Who's to say if he believes it himself to some extent, if at all tbh. But since Heinkel is an awesome character I like to think that he has been influenced by Ed and really thinks like that of the souls 😄
Even though General Armstrong was still mostly right about the Central forces being weak, I gotta respect that one guy who still ordered all the troops to close the entrances despite being stabbed multiple times by Olivier
I don’t think Ed is a true pacifist (that he thinks *nobody* should kill or die), instead he recognizes it is the responsibility of the individual to decide for themselves and thus decided that he himself will not kill. I don’t feel the overall moral of the show matches Ed’s beliefs. It’s a combination of all characters, including Olivier. “To see someone as righteous as Olivier kill is sad. Even though I know she likely has done evil things before.” Why do you say this killing isn’t righteous? Do you not believe in a justified killing? I do. Finally, how is Armstrong killing a few men different from Alphonse using the philosopher’s stone? They are fighting for the same cause. Is it a cause that justifies violence, or the method of that violence?
Ed also isn't a true pacifist because I think true pacifists don't like violence however ed doesn't mind violence at all, I mean we see him fight alot it seems he's just specifically against killing. Although I do think he would find a death that happened in self defense justified.
I think you've misinterpreted some of the shows lessons on morality. It's not about Ed's interpretation of morality the show goes out of its way to show that all of the different characters have their own moral codes. The characters who stick to that moral code are typically portrayed as virtuous while the characters they don't are portrayed as compromised. Olivie moral code is based around loyalty and strength, being needlessly merciful and putting yourself in those loyal to you and danger in order to spare the life of your enemy would actually be a huge contradiction in her morality. Ed's personal moral code isn't inherently superior to the other characters but it is important that he is a characteristics to his individual morality
Ah these stretch of episodes are nonstop amazing. I absolutely love the Al vs Kimblee/Pride fight, you really get to see Als strength! Also your predictions are so funny, ep 58/59 are going to be a blast to see your reactions. I really hope you watch the original fma after this, theres so many twists in that all well :) Edit: I love all the chameras but I think Heinkel takes the cake for this episode especially. I also love Mr. Gorilla simply because Ed calls him that lol
11:39 i have few complaints about this show. This is one of them. We should have gotten a new super form for envy. Instead of a green, trex dog, they should have become a white, hydra spider. My other complaints are also visual: when Hoenheim feel from the tree, he should have hassled with a brief flash of red lightning (tough that one makes sense for it not to happen. I'd imagine Hoenheim has healed from many injuries manually to save souls from being spent.) When Edward used his own soul to heal his stomach wound, the transmutation lightning should have been red.
hey, i got a crazy idea, you can re-watch your first vid of this series (aka the opening reactions) right before or after the last ep of this show, yeah, it sounds a bit redundant but i am sure it will give you enough to talk in a reaction vid, how both the show and you started this journey, a little peek to the past and how much things changed he he

And to top it off, it has bonus scenes of Hohenheim, The Ishvalan War AND a Lan Fan vs Envy fight that didn't get animated for the show. Definitely get them. If you are on a budget, I highly recommend the 3 in 1 additions. They are super cheap, 13USD a piece and it collects the entire story in a healthy 9 volume omnibus. And to top it off, they are still available and in print, probably from Viz if I can remember correctly
It's a tough choice for which chimera i like, but i think i really like darius aka Mr.Gorilla. I like his personality best followed up by whatever the frog dudes name is and then heinkel and zampano
Al would still be using the souls in the stone without their consent. But he can assume that at least some of them would be willing to protect the world for the sake of their loved ones. And judging by the way Ed used that one thankful soul to get out of Gluttony's stomach, Al might be able to direct it so that only willing souls get used.
I’m not sure about that, tbh. The only precedent for anyone actually communicating with the souls in the stones we have is Hohenheimm. I don’t think we can assume Al was able to distinguish their desires.
about the stones and ed and al not wanting to use them.. the issue with taht is... not using them for good or bad.. means they people remain TRAPPED for eternity... destroying teh stone is also killing them butt tbh is FREEING the people.. when i think of souls in a stone.. i imagine my soul being trapped in say a rock or a cup or some inaimate object.. thats got to be torture... its a faith worse then death tbh.... if u gave me a stone.. id immedtially destroy it or use it like doctor marko do to help heal people... i would not sleep well knowing a souls is forever trapped in the stone... imma free it/use it up.. also if i became a stone... id want someone to use my to beat the shit outta the person who put me in the stone... xD so with that... unpopular opinion.. i think ed and al's logic is bs in terms of not wanting to use the stones.... cause again consider the very stones they actknowledge as humans.. ed and al would rather have them eternally trapped inside unable to move and whatnot.. again look at envy... thats all the tortured disembodied souls... it looks HORRIBLE... MERCY KILLING IS CALLED FOR.. use it.. xD i think vast majority of people out of sheer empathy are ok with mercy killings.. we do it to animals all the time espeically when they are suffering extremely bad and we dont want to see them suffer to death... thats my view of the souls in the stones... i say its inhuman to not immeditatly destory or use the stone(for good) and that mean not making it last like a soda pop.. rather immediately look for helpful reasons to exhuast the stones im going to argue that no human irl.. in the comments or on earth.. would be ok with being soul stuck in a actual rock.. FOREVER.. like nobody would even wanna be buried alive in a coffin... being in a stone is WORSE.. at least in a coffin in can turn a bit... xD imagien being immortal yet stuck in cement.. nobody wants that.. anyone who says yes.. im calling them a liar out right xD also hypcracy on eds part.. using the stone to get out of the belly of gluttony.. ed doesnt realize he FREE'd some of those souls from envy... they are no longer amount the rest still in envy being tormented..
No doubt. Barry definitely killed a lot more people than Shou Tucker, but I doubt I could find a single person that likes Tucker more. When I said redeemed I just meant he is a somewhat enjoyable character that despite what he has done, made some moves in the end to be better.
Other fans also review bomb FMAB. It have 32,000 one stars. Any other show not even come close to that.
2 роки тому
FMA:B fandom actually has a bit of infamy on MAL. Whenever a show comes close to beating fma:b in terms of score, they start review-bombing that show in order to keep fma:b on top. This has happened several times (gintama, attack on titan etc) i think its an asshole move from the fandom
Half truth. Whenever a show comes close to FMAB, then FMAB's 1 star score increases by 2-3 thousands. So FMAB also get Review bombed. Take Kaguya-sama season 3 for example. When it come close to FMAB. FMAB's 1 star score increases from 27 thousands to 32+ thousands.

@@CastSenpai Do we know if it works the other way around? Maybe the souls can volunteer? I'm still wondering about that one soul.
about the stones and ed and al not wanting to use them..
the issue with taht is... not using them for good or bad.. means they people remain TRAPPED for eternity...
destroying teh stone is also killing them butt tbh is FREEING the people..
when i think of souls in a stone.. i imagine my soul being trapped in say a rock or a cup or some inaimate object.. thats got to be torture...
its a faith worse then death tbh....
if u gave me a stone.. id immedtially destroy it or use it like doctor marko do to help heal people... i would not sleep well knowing a souls is forever trapped in the stone... imma free it/use it up..
also if i became a stone... id want someone to use my to beat the shit outta the person who put me in the stone... xD
so with that... unpopular opinion.. i think ed and al's logic is bs in terms of not wanting to use the stones.... cause again consider the very stones they actknowledge as humans.. ed and al would rather have them eternally trapped inside unable to move and whatnot..
again look at envy... thats all the tortured disembodied souls... it looks HORRIBLE...
MERCY KILLING IS CALLED FOR.. use it.. xD
i think vast majority of people out of sheer empathy are ok with mercy killings.. we do it to animals all the time espeically when they are suffering extremely bad and we dont want to see them suffer to death... thats my view of the souls in the stones...
i say its inhuman to not immeditatly destory or use the stone(for good) and that mean not making it last like a soda pop.. rather immediately look for helpful reasons to exhuast the stones
im going to argue that no human irl.. in the comments or on earth.. would be ok with being soul stuck in a actual rock.. FOREVER.. like nobody would even wanna be buried alive in a coffin... being in a stone is WORSE.. at least in a coffin in can turn a bit... xD
imagien being immortal yet stuck in cement.. nobody wants that.. anyone who says yes.. im calling them a liar out right xD
also hypcracy on eds part.. using the stone to get out of the belly of gluttony..
ed doesnt realize he FREE'd some of those souls from envy... they are no longer amount the rest still in envy being tormented..
Barry, redeemed...? Don't forget that for all his comedic tendencies, the guy was still a remorseless mass murderer, full stop.
No doubt. Barry definitely killed a lot more people than Shou Tucker, but I doubt I could find a single person that likes Tucker more.
When I said redeemed I just meant he is a somewhat enjoyable character that despite what he has done, made some moves in the end to be better.
Now ,more than ever, i want you to watch the original FMA,and after that the movies. At least to experience, in reverse, the changes.
Gorilla is my favorite

The reason why FMAB is the most highly rated on MAL is because FMAB fans review bomb any better anime that gets close to it
Other fans also review bomb FMAB. It have 32,000 one stars. Any other show not even come close to that.
