i used to go to their shows in 2017, and i remember it being a big deal in the scene that they broke up. besides beach goons, they were the biggest local band at the time and seeing all that stuff come out about edgar and seeing the band break up was so sad. edgar a few months before this put together a show in national city called fukfest in a random warehouse and i remember it as the best local show i’ve ever been to
Luis had another project called Lee Wires for a bit over the last couple years, Sal and Edgar played live with him a couple times so it was cool seeing them all in stage together again, also Sal is one of the founding members of Thee Sacred Souls!
In 2020, Luis' posted on his Instagram about joining a Zoom open to everyone where Fake Tides will play their album one last time. Under that post, I saw a comment talking about how it's BS that the band ended. I ended up dming them asking why the band split. According to him he basically said someone in the band (not saying who) hooked up with someone who was 16-17 while the band member was 18. The band got canceled and the girl brought this up 2 years after it happened. According to the Instagram account "there was no proof, the girl went back and forth with her statements." He also said that the same band member looked "real torn up looked like he was real sad on IG for a long time." Keep in mind take this info with a grain of salt, for all we know this could be a lie but who knows. The account did mention that "their live shows were great. They were usually free and were some of the best times of my life" Split happened sometime in 2017-2018.
Oh shit that sucks and seems to be fitting for the scene as of late :/ damn these indie guys do be sleezy. Like you said taking it for a grain of salt, wasn’t able to find a single thing online about them being canceled and all members seem to be thriving with the work they are doing now. Good to know though!
